Wiggly Suds Prevents Green Beer Spillage

For many Irish-Americans, St. Patrick's Day is a religious and festive holiday. On St. Patrick's Day the faithful are allowed to break their Lenten sacrifices, for the day, to celebrate...and celebrate they do. For this reason, and because the holiday is celebrated widely by non-Irish as well, March 17th is one of BIGGEST days for alcohol consumption in the United States.

If you can't beat 'em, put on your green, and whip up some green St. Patty's Wiggly Suds. Your beer will go further and no matter how much you overdo the celebrating you won't spill your suds. However, it will bounce.

How to Make St. Patty's Wiggly Suds

These green beer shooters taste like beer not Jello

1 cup water
1 cup ice
1 package unflavored gelatin (3 envelopes)
12 or 16 oz beer of your choice
3 drops green food coloring

Now mix the magic ingredients...

Boil the water. Add the food coloring. Add the gelatin powder. Stir until the gelatin is completely dissolved. Add the ice. Stir until the ice is completely melted. Gently pour in the beer. Stir slightly, to mix.

Pour the liquid into condiment cups. Allow to fully cool then snap on the lids. Refrigerate until set.

Condiment cups work very well because they are stackable, which saves room in the fridge and makes for easy transport. It is also easier to slurp shooters from these short-sided, pliable cups that from taller shot cups or glass containers.

Suck and Blow St. Patty's Wiggly Suds

Where to get tubes for suck and blow shots

Want to try something a little different? Serve St. Patty's Wiggly Suds (or other shooters) in suck and blow tubes.

After mixing your Wiggly Suds, pour into a sealed suck and blow tube. Once the gelatin sets, uncap the ends of this opened-ended tube. Then party like a Leprechaun! One party goer sucks on the tube while another blows. The Wiggly Suds shot is jettisoned into the lucky sucker's mouth--or not--sometimes the shot sticks. The good news is it never stays stuck for long; a gentle push, a better blow, or a little tube warming (with hands or water) loosens the fun-plug right up. Regardless, the activity itself livens up festivities for everyone.

Suck and blow tubes are no longer available on the big selling sites. However, according to SAB Enterprises, suck and blow tubes can be purchased directly from the company itself. Ten tubes cost about $10, with volume discounts starting with as few as 25 tubes.

I clarified the recipe above. Unflavored gelatin isn't like jello-a package has several little envelopes inside, and the number of packages differs by brand. Use three envelopes for this recipe.

We've made jello with a wide array of alcoholic beverages, but never with beer! These look interesting, and 'tis the season... we'll give 'em a whirl!
