Since it is the first thing that goes on your table, it is the foundation that will support and affect all your other St. Patrick's Day party supply choices. Although most of the available disposable choices are plastic, disposable paper table covers are also available. But first you need to decide on a style; solid color, or print or pattern. Each will lead you to your other decorating choices.

For instance:

• Solid color tablecloth - the most versatile choice, allows you to use almost any type of plating and decorations, solid, print, or pattern. It also sets the dominate color for your decorations, which for most St. Patrick's Day parties will be Shamrock green. You will use your other decorating choices as accents that combine to give an overall coordinated appearance.
• Print or Pattern tablecloth - Great for setting a theme, but a little restrictive, patterns and prints usually don't mix well. It you have a small print or pattern, it is possible to use a print piece with it, but the design on the print piece should be large and it should pick up one of the print or pattern colors.

Note: The above applies mostly to your plates and serviceware, but also includes place-mats if you use them.

Party me this ... What's green, and white, with Shamrocks and Leprechauns? It's your St. Patrick's Day party supplies for your table!

Even though the traditional Irish colors are green-white-gold, most St. Patty's Day decorations are various shades of green and white. Those will be the primary colors of your party decorations. But you can still bring some gold into the picture using different accent pieces like pots-o'-gold, gold coins, or floral accents.

The key to a great looking table is coordinated eating and serving pieces. Manufacturers know this too, and you will be able to find plenty of package options that include most of the pieces you need. When choosing you plates, beverage cups, and napkins, consider the same restrictions we discussed in the tablecloth section.

If you use a solid color cloth, make sure you pick contrasting colors, and if you have a print or pattern cloth, make sure you pick solid colors or large designs that won't clash with your print designs.

Of course the two plates above are not the only ones that would work with a colored table cover, but it does give you an idea of working with both solid color plates and print plates to find ones that give you the contrast you need for a 'stand-out' party table.

Tip: When you are working with a white or pale color table cover, you can use just about any plate you want to match your theme. Just don't mix radically different designs. If you can't find matching pieces, go with complimenting solid colors for one or the other items.

You can also find matched plate-napkin-cup packages in both solid color and print designs. This takes a lot of the effort and guesswork out of finding just the right pieces to get that 'put-together' look you want for your party table. Here are a couple examples:

There are a couple considerations when choosing the beverage cups for your party table
  • What kind of beverage will you be serving
  • Who will be using them
  • How many beverages - Hot or cold - Adults or kids

If you will be serving adult, or adult-portion beverages, then you want to choose
12oz. to 16oz. cups; kid's drinks - then use 6oz to 8oz. cups. If you will be using a punch bowl, then the 6oz. to 8oz. cups work best for this.

Of course you still want to find beverage cup designs that will compliment the other table decor' items you are using. Just remember to be careful about mixing and matching patterns and colors.

Table centerpieces serve two important functions - they are the focal point for your table decorations, and they give your table some dimension, some height, not just a 'flat plain' of plates and napkins.

Choosing a centerpiece is also more than just complimenting colors. You should consider how your table will be used.

For instance:

• If there will be prolonged attendance at the table, then make sure your centerpiece isn't so tall it becomes a barrier people have to talk or look around
• If there will be a lot of guest activity across the table, then make sure the centerpiece is sturdy, and not prone to being knocked over
• make sure the centerpiece size is appropriate for your table. Not so big it overwhelms it, or so small is looks like an afterthought.

  Tip:.Confetti means party! Splash it everywhere for color.  

Ideas for using table confetti:

  • Sprinkle some around the base of your table centerpiece. if you used a pot-o'-gold themed centerpiece, than you could use a gold coin confetti around the base. Or if your centerpiece is shamrock-themed, then shamrock confetti would fit right in.

  • Down the "center-line" of your table, intermixed with your table service-ware, make light sprinkle-trails of confetti between and around them. In this case, contrasting confetti will looks best.

  • Other decor' pieces - if you have smaller decor' groupings on your table, i.e. a smaller pot-o'-gold or a companion piece to your main centerpiece, then sprinkle complimenting confetti around the bases of these accent pieces

  • Place settings - Be careful with this one - some dinner guests might view a lot of confetti around their plates as 'junky'. But ... a splash of confetti just above the setting, or around the beverage glasses might add the color you want.
