I Hope You Enjoy These St. Vincent And The Grenadines Pictures

St. Vincent and the Grenadines has been on my list of places I hope to visit someday for about 15 years now. While some of the items on my bucket list seem very obscure and random, this one can be traced back to a specific event that landed it on my list. In 1995 I was tired. Tired of feeling like I was only taking and not giving back at an equal level, tired of using my MBA purely as a profit tool, tired of selfishness. So, I decided to make the plunge to the other side. After over 15 years of somewhat successful corporate life, I decided to join the Peace Corps. Applications, interviews, medical exams, FBI security checks and I was in. I was offered an assignment on St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Wow, I was so excited, Peace Corps in the Caribbean.

But then another life changing event and my mother was diagnosed with a terminal illness. So, I declined my post. I have never regretted spending the time with my mother, but there has always been a part of me that wants to see St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Recently I have been challenged to write a 10 item bucket list - a list of the things I want to do before I die. A visit to this island nation easily earned a spot on my list. Now that I look at these St. Vincent and the Grenadines pictures I want to go for more than just the sentimental reasons. I hope you enjoy these photos too, and I my goal will be to someday replace them with my own photos.

An Interesting Story From My Peace Corp Interview

I was interviewed at the Peace Corp office at a Federal Building in San Francisco. My interviewer suggested as it was such a nice day that we should go outside for the interview. We were sitting on our bench talking when a plain clothes-ed man approached us, showed us his badge and asked to move as there was a "suspicious" briefcase on the next bench. Well I assumed this was a "test" to see how I would handle a stressful situation, so I was completely casual about the entire thing and simply followed the directions I was given to move to another location, where I was seated with my back to our original location. It was only later that I noticed that the entire building had been evacuated and the bomb squad called. It was a known false alarm by the time I realized what was going on.

What's Stopping Me?

st vincent and the grenadines picturesOnce again the primary thing stopping me from ticking this item off my bucket list is me. And, of course, geographic proximity. It is pretty far away in terms of where I would have to fly to get there from New Zealand. And, it is not on the top of the bucket list for the rest of the family and we holiday together. I will get there one day. Just don't think it will be anytime soon.
