Wishing You the Luck of the Irish
Dedicated to the Irish around the world.
Much Irish folklore surrounds St. Patrick's Day. Not much of it is actually substantiated.
Some of this lore includes the belief that Patrick raised people from the dead. He also is said to have given a sermon from a hilltop that drove all the snakes from Ireland. Of course, no snakes were ever native to Ireland, and some people think this is a metaphor for the conversion of the pagans. Though originally a Catholic holy day, St. Patrick's Day has evolved into more of a secular holiday.

ST. PATRICK'S DAY WEARING OF THE GREEN
HISTORY OF THE MARCH 17 CELEBRATION AROUND THE WORLD

For a few hours each year, millions of Irish and non-Irish commemorate the life of a 1500-year-old saint in a boisterous display of parading and revelry, festooned in the shamrock and emerald green.
There are over 34 million Irish Americans living in the U.S., making St. Patrick's Day one of the most widely celebrated holidays in America.
THE WEARING OF THE GREEN captures the dramatic story of how March 17 was transformed from a stuffy dinner for Ireland's religious elite to the world's most public ethnic festival.Long celebrated with more fanfare in New York than in Dublin, the holiday has been criticized for its loss of religious meaning, commercialism, and embarrassing rituals of drunkenness.
But it has also served to unite Irish emigrants from America to Australia to Argentina. More recently it has become a flash point for political divides within the Irish community.
THE WEARING OF THE GREEN is the first book to chronicle the full history of St. Patrick's Day--from its medieval origins to plastic leprechauns and green beer -- exploring the shared heritage of the Irish through the evolution of this amazing holiday." />

St. Patrick's Festival
The principle aim of St. Patrick's Festival, since its inauguration, is to develop a major annual international festival around the national holiday over which the 'owners' of the festival, the Irish people, would stand proud. It sets out to reflect the talents and achievements of Irish people on many national and world stages, and it acts as an exciting showcase for the manifold skills of the people of Ireland, of every age and social background.
As the one national holiday that is celebrated in more countries around the world than any other, St. Patrick's Day is the day when everyone wants to be Irish. However, it was a strange fact of life that the celebrations held in Ireland for St. Patrick's Day prior to 1996 paled in comparison to those held abroad, especially when one considers what an ideal opportunity the day represented to showcase Ireland and Dublin to the world.
The first St Patrick's Festival was held over one day, and night, on March 17th 1996. With a little over four months in which to effect change, the main object was to demonstrate that changes were afoot and starting the process away from "just a parade". The live audience for the day was estimated to be 430,000.
In 1997, we dropped the word "Day" from our title and it became "St. Patrick's Festival", a three day event. The festival has since grown to become a four day festival and in 2001 is was enjoyed by 1.2million people.
- St. Patrick's Festival
- St. Patrick's Festival is Ireland's official celebration for Ireland's national holiday - St. Patrick's Day. Around the globe on the 17th March, Ireland is celebrated with parties and parades but the BIG party is here in Ireland where we celebrate in style with five days and nights of fantastic celebratory events, most of which are free!

ST. PATRICK'S DAY SYMBOLS
One traditional icon of the day is the shamrock. And this stems from a more bona fide Irish tale that tells how Patrick used the three-leafed shamrock to explain the Trinity. He used it in his sermons to represent how the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit could all exist as separate elements of the same entity. His followers adopted the custom of wearing a shamrock on his feast day. Featured Lenses Celtic Symbols

Add an extra touch of Ireland to your St. Patrick's Day festivities with traditional Irish drinking toasts.
Raise a glass of green beer, Irish Cream, or Irish Coffee and give a traditional Irish toast on March 17th! Here are some great toasts for you to try.
Irish St. Patrick's Day Toast
Saint Patrick was a gentleman,
Who through strategy and stealth,
Drove all the snakes from Ireland,
Here's a toasting to his health.
But not too many toastings
Lest you lose yourself and then
Forget the good Saint Patrick
And see all those snakes again.
May your glass be ever full.
May the roof over your head be always strong.
And may you be in heaven
half an hour before the devil knows you're dead.
Here's to a fellow who smiles
When life runs along like a song.
And here's to the lad who can smile
When everything goes dead wrong.
And, if you're really brave, you can attempt to say Happy St. Partick's Day in Irish:

- The Soda Depot - Green River Story
- Green River Story - Green River soda was introduced to Midwestern drinkers in 1919, just as Congress was passing the 18th Amendment establishing Prohibition. When Prohibition officially went into affect on January 16, 1920, some breweries turned to making a nonalcoholic drink call Near Beer.
So why is Green River coming back now? According to Kennelly "There is no other flavor like it on the market, and it has visual appeal with its bright green color. The brand takes people back to a pleasant time in their life, in the 1950's and 1960's - a time of corner soda fountains and drive-in movies. people looking to buy Green River".
The Soda Depot is very happy to be able to carry this product and you now have the ability to purchase some right here at The Soda Depot. We currently only carry the 12 oz bottles of Green River.
