Staind Official Bio

A brief history on the band Staind

Band Members
* Aaron Lewis - vocals, guitar
* Mike Mushok - guitar
* Johnny April - bass guitar, backing vocals
* Jon Wysocki - drums, percussion

CHAPTER V is Staind at their best, with songs ranging from forceful to quiet, from industrial-tinged to melodious, often within one song and with singer AARON LEWIS' instantly recognizable voice heartfelt and fervent. Lyrically, Lewis isn't afraid to look deep, and what he finds the good, bad and uglyis translated into soul-baring songs that he often agonizes over. 'I'm my own worst critic,' Lewis admits. 'The personal songs; it's a way for me to get those things out, because I wouldn't feel comfortable saying them to anyone. I'm pretty bad about being an internalist. I hold everything down and then explode. It's better for everyone around me that I put that explosion down into lyrics rather than just exploding on somebody.'

Break the Cycle is Staind's third studio album from 2001

It is Staind's most successful album to date, and what broke them into the mainstream

It was a huge international success for the band, as it spent 3 weeks at number 1 position in the U.S. album charts and many weeks in the top 10 album charts of The Billboard 200, the UK and New Zealand..

A wikipedia history of Staind

On June 30, 2008, Staind's new single "Believe" will be released to radio.

Early days

Staind formed on November 24, 1995 in Springfield, Massachusetts. After meeting through friends and covering KoRn, Rage Against the Machine, Pearl Jam, and Alice in Chains, among others, in smalltime clubs for a year and a half, Staind self-released their debut album, Tormented, in November 1996, citing influences Pantera and Sepultura. Until recently, the album was difficult to obtain, as only four thousand copies were originally sold. Since then, the band's official website has released the album to meet the demand from fans.

During this time, Staind played a show with Limp Bizkit. When Fred Durst saw the controversial cover of the group's debut album, he tried to have the band kicked off the bill, but when he saw the band's live show, he changed his tone and befriended them, later singing backup on Aaron Lewis's live, original version of the future Staind song "Outside." Durst was one of the executive producers for Dysfunction and Break the Cycle. He also directed a few videos for the band later on.

"Outside" is a single by the alternative metal band Staind.

It is the second single released off their 2001 album Break the Cycle.

"Outside" was originally performed live during the 1999 Family Values Tour in Biloxi, Mississippi, with Aaron Lewis (vocals/guitar) on the stage by himself and Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst providing backing vocals. Lewis was asked to perform a song solo and he decided at the last moment to play a song he had been working on since the early days of Staind. He finished the lyrics to "Outside" on the spot while singing the song live.

Dysfunction is alternative metal band Staind's second studio album

their first release under the Flip/Elektra label

"Just Go," "Mudshovel," and "Home" were released as singles. The song "Mudshovel" can also be found on their previous album, Tormented, albeit in a slightly different form; although, this version of the song goes under the title of "Mudshuvel."

The album's artwork is also worth noting as it reflects the album's title. All four band members are depicted with dysfunctional properties related to their position in the band; Aaron (vocalist) is shown without a mouth, Mike (guitarist) is shown with webbed hands, Johnny (bassist) is shown with only one arm and Jon (drums and percussion) is shown with no eyes. Finally the most obvious reference to the album's title is on the cover; the clown's reflection is incorrect.

Dysfunction contains a hidden track called "Excess Baggage," included after a long period of silence at the end of "Spleen."

Staind "It's Been Awhile" music video from: Break the Cycle

"It's Been Awhile" is the lead single off the album Break the Cycle by the alternative metal band Staind.

The song is probably the band's most well-known song, becoming a Top 40 Hit (#5) on the Billboard Hot 100. The song spent a second-best 20 weeks at #1 on the Mainstream Rock Chart (behind only "Loser" by 3 Doors Down) and a then record of 16 weeks on the Modern Rock Chart. The song is about singer Aaron Lewis's life and about how it's been a while since he's done a lot of things. He makes references to his previous drug addiction problem and failed relationships with several women. He mentions his father however he believes he only has himself to be blamed for his problems.

More from the Official Staind Bio!

As for where CHAPTER V fits into the band's legacy, Lewis puts the CD into perspective: 'It's the fifth chapter of feelings in a six-year long book; a narrative of feelings. The title makes people go, wait a second; DYSFUNCTION, BREAK THE CYCLE, 14 SHADES OF GREY, CHAPTER V that's only four?' So it will make people look for the fifth one.' (Which, for the record, is 1996's independent release, TORMENTED.) On CHAPTER V, as on previous albums, Lewis says, 'Lyrically, I always try to be as perfectly vague as possible. I mean, do you really want the director's exact interpretation of what the movie is given to you?' That said, it's clear that Lewis does lay bare his emotions, and on the album's apt closer, 'Reply,' those are feelings of thankfulness expressed to the band's legions of faithful fans. In the song, Lewis sings, 'So thank you for the letters that you thought you wrote in vain/And for the times you choose to stand out in the rain and wait for me The life I live would never be the same, without you here.'

Staind - Right Here Waiting

"Right Here" is the first single from Staind's fifth album Chapter V in 2005.

Right Here has been Staind's second-most successful single chartwise (the first being 2001's It's Been Awhile.) It is also Staind's only entry into the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks (#40) and the Hot Digital Songs charts (#39).

Music video

The music video features all four members in one house in four separate rooms. Cameras capture all the members except Aaron Lewis in the same room playing their instruments while Aaron is featured in multiple rooms.
