A Glass Artist Will Create A Stained Glass Design Known As Glass Art

The term stained glass can refer to the material of coloured glass or the craft of working with it. Throughout its thousand-year history, the term "stained glass" has been applied almost exclusively to the windows of churches and other significant buildings. Although traditionally made in flat panels and used as windows, the creations of modern stained glass artists also include three-dimensional structures and sculpture.

As a material stained glass is glass that has been coloured by adding metallic salts during its manufacture. The coloured glass is crafted into stained glass windows in which small pieces of glass are arranged to form patterns or pictures, held together (traditionally) by strips of lead and supported by a rigid frame. Painted details and yellow stain are often used to enhance the design. The term stained glass is also applied to windows in which the colours have been painted onto the glass and then fused to the glass in a kiln.

Frank Lloyd Wright Stained Art Glass Panel

This beautiful art glass piece measures 10 inches square and is based on a collection of designs for unpublished Liberty Magazine covers.

Frank Lloyd Wright May Basket Framed Stained Art Glass PanelFrank Lloyd Wright May Basket Framed Stained Art Glass Panel Frank Lloyd Wright was commissioned to design a series of cover designs. However, the editors thought the designs to be too "radical" and they were never used. The May Basket is an abstract geometric motif representing flowers, fruits and streams of ribbons in celebration of Spring. On this glass panel, enamel colors are individually applied to a single sheet of glass which is then kiln fired to permanently fuse the enamels to the glass. This exquisite glasswork can free stand in its base, or hang in your home by its removable chain. Makes a great gift for any Frank Lloyd Wright collector.

I have made a ton of artwork with stained glass overlay, the poured liquid not the paint on kind. Massive job, fascinating to learn techniques to create portraits in liquid not paint layering!

I love it and I love some of the items you have on this lens. I used to do a little leaded glass work and would love to have the time to do more.

What do I think about stained glass? I will tell you this ... Nearly every window in our home has a piece or two of stained glass -- a variety of transom pieces along with some antique English stained glass windows we found in St. Augustine and refinished. We took an artistic approach to how we display it. Love it!
