Introduction to Stained Glass as a Hobby
Welcome to my lens, Stained Glass: Tutorial for Beginners. I have always loved stained glass and recently decided to make it one of my hobbies. It is so enjoyable that I want to be able to share the few things that I have learned. As hobbyists we cannot expect to make huge windows (well, maybe one or two of you will) but we can create lovely smaller items to decorate the home, sell or give as gifts such as lamps, boxes, sun catches and various doodads. (And there are loads of those just hiding inside the glass..) Stained glass has always fascinated me--the wonderful colors, beautiful patterns and the playful way it has with sunlight. Below I have inserted a series of 12 videos produced by RabbicoonProductions that demonstrate the making of stained glass from start to finish. This are great for anyone who is starting out on their own without enrolling in a class. Instructions are easy to follow and actually start at the beginning with explaining what tools are needed and how to use them. Various types of glass are included as well as methods of cutting the glass and how to use patterns. These videos are also excellent for students who would like to reinforce what they have studied in class. In between the videos I have placed some of my favorite stained glass items to keep the muse flowing. Even If you are not into making stained glass I hope you are curious enough to peek into one or two videos just for fun and enjoy the beautiful pictures. You may even want to browse through the Amazon bookshelves at the bottom of the page. Wander around. Have a good time!
Interested in trying your hand at this craft/art? I have also listed a few stained glass kits and some tools as well. I hope you enjoy my lens. Leave me a note at the bottom of the page and tell me what you think about either this lens or stained glass.

- Thank you for visiting my site and sharing your thoughts. The coloring book idea is great, I also love the Tiffany style designs. Have you ever seen the glass collection at the Chrysler Museum in Norfolk, Virginia? I think you would really enjoy that.

- My father worked in stained and prismatic glass. I love the free form designs of the Tiffany style decorative stained glass art. Childrens' coloring book pages are a good source for stained glass motif patterns to make small window hangings and ornaments.

- Thank you Laraine for your kind words. I am happy that you enjoyed my lens. It was fun making it. Stained glass making is very enjoyable. It can be lots of work if you plan on making a huge window or it can be much less work if you make a simple ornament. It is a great hobby and I really admire the professionals who make the really terrific windows, lamps and huge glass monuments. I think there is nothing more beautiful than glass. It is fun both working in a group or working alone.

- I watched all 12 videos. I've always loved stained glass art but never did it. It seems like a lot of work. I imagine if you do it with a group it would be fun. 5*s and thanks for making this lens.
