Learn an Easy Way to Remove Stamps

Stamps comes in a great variety of shapes and sizes. It's nice to see each of it in a neat, organized album but before you put it in there, you must remove it first from the envelopes unless the envelope or postmark is unusual or valuable.
  • Use tweezers rather than fingers.
  • Remove stamps from envelopes by soaking them.
  • Dry your stamps between sheets of blotting paper.
  • Never throw away any stamps without finding their value.
  • Mount your stamps more carefully.
  • Make your album interesting.

The Difference Between A Stamp Collector and A Philatelics?

Stamp Collecting and Philately is commonly misused. But what is the difference?

Philately is the study of revenue and postage stamps. This includes the design, production and uses of stamps after they are authorized for issue, usually by the government authorities, the most common one being postal authorities. While stamp collecting is the hobby itself or the distinct activity in collecting of postage stamps and other related objects. That's why many equate it as the same references. For instance, a philatelics will study extreme rare stamps without expecting to own copies of them, whether because of cost or because the sole survivors are in museums. Conversely, a stamp collector may choose to acquire and arrange the little pictures without being much troubled about their origin or usage. In practice, the basic knowledge of a philately will save the collector from spending a great deal of money on a stamp that is really almost worthless.

In addition, some post offices offer non-postal services such as passport applications and other government forms, car tax purchase, money orders, and banking services.

The back rooms of a post office are where mail is processed for delivery. Mail may also be processed in other post offices that are not open to the general public.

Wow! Another great lens, Naiza! I didn't know the difference between "stamp collecting" and "philately" either. Good stuff to know. I visited "Old Sacramento" recently with a Danish houseguest--a friend of my daughter's. His tour was mostly restricted to the San Francisco area of California... so for a little adventure, we drove north up the Central Valley of California and we stayed for a while exploring in Old Sacramento. He was amazed at the "cowboy" and rustic look of the place--and in one of the museums we learned that Sacramento was the western-most hub of the Pony Express mail system. We saw letters/envelopes that had the Pony Express stamps on them. Thanks for your lens that has added a new perspective to that visit!

Amazing how stamp collecting is so international. My very first job was in a company called "Stamphouse" (translated) and they had One single stamp as security for the whole company. They kept it in a safe. I is called yellow shilling banco.

Wow, 5*! theres nothing else like a lens to remind me of an early hobby from way back! If I got a bunch of stamps that (unfortunately) got pasted together, what should I do? Dip them all in water (which will make them crinkle) or expose them to steam (which will get the same results)?

    Please drop by my lenses!
