Can't draw a lick? With rubber stamping, you don't have to. Rubber stamps are an easy way to add art to cards, bookmarks, pillows and just about anything else that doesn't move. However, they can also be used to create patterns and texture or to emboss designs in velvet. With the versatility of these little bits of rubber, it is no surprise that rubber stamping overlaps many other artistic and crafty fields, including scrapbooking, mixed media and even fabric design.

Rubber Stamping - Yesterday's Trend?

If you mention rubber stamping, many crafters respond with "Oh, yeah. I used to stamp. I've got a pile of stamps and inkpads somewhere in my craft room." Stamping stores have closed and artists who create rubber stamped cards are very rare anymore. So, is rubber stamping dead?
Actually, rubber stamping is a wonderful tool to use in many crafts. Instead of looking at it as a specific art form, look at it as a way to embellish and add interest to whatever you are currently in to.
* Mixed media art - fantastic for adding depth and excitement to backgrounds.
* ATCs - create background designs or make a focal point.
* Textiles - turn a bland solid fabric into a designer print with stamps and fabric ink.
* Jewelry - do it yourself shrink plastic rubber stamped charms.
* Painted furniture - add colorful designs quickly.
* Polymer clay - Add texture and designs to anything you create with clay, from mosaic tiles to beads.

Stamping Addict Feedback

If you are considering joining stamper support groups, stamp everything that is stationary (and a few things that aren't), or have a rubber stamp collection that is bigger than Imelda's shoe collection, you're a stamping addict. Let us know we're not alone and leave a comment.

I have discovered recently that Pergamano Parchment Caft, or at least a simplified version of it, can be accomplished with a rubber stamp and an ink that dries on parchment paper. It's much faster than tracing, although of course you cannot get the calligraphy-like effect that Pergamano experts can produce with the tracing pen and stippling ink.
