Twentieth Century Pottery
The Stangl Pottery was in production from 1930 until 1978, almost entirely under the direction of Martin Stangl. Stangl purchased the Fulper pottery at Flemington, New Jersey. He produced a large number of hand-painted dinnerware patterns on either a white or terra-coota body. In addition, Stangle is well known for the bird figurines produced from the Audubon Birds of America prints. These are made from the pottery clay, with the exception of a dozen produced on porcelain. The 1950's saw the introduction of several lines of gold-brushed decorative wares, like ashtrays, vases and cache pot. Most Stangl pieces are marked, so identification for this pottery is generally easy to make.
