Is The 2009 Star Trek The Best Blu-ray Movie?

When I first saw Star Trek (2009), I loved it.

When I left the movie theatre, I proclaimed it, "THE BEST MOVIE THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN." I have no idea if that is the truth or not, but that was definitely how I was feeling about the movie at that moment. I loved it and I love the blu-ray release, too.

On this page you will find information about a number of the versions of the movie that are available in the marketplace, you can watch the Star Trek 2009 movie trailer and you can read reviews by both the experts and by ordinary blu-ray movie loving people like you and me.

Star Trek 2009 Plot

In 100 Words or Less

A movie for Star Trek fans and for those who have never seen a single Star Trek movie, this movie documents the maiden voyage of a spaceship, the U.S.S. Enterprise. It is packed with lots of action, funny moments and some peril as the new crew members attempt to stop an evil entity who threatens all of man kind. James Kirk is an impulsive Iowa farm boy, Spock a logical man who throws off emotion. Their partnership is unlikely but their clash of instinct and reason proves powerful enough to guide us all through their mission, taking us "boldly where no one has gone before."

Star Trek Editorial Review

Thoughts from Amazon.

Star Trek (2009) is a prequel and a reboot. We meet James Kirk who is an unfocused younger man who signs up at the urging of Starfleet Captain Christopher Pike. Of course, Kirk bumps heads with a certain Vulcan named Spock but they are forced to get along when the Enterprise has to respond to an emergency on Vulcan. Not your father's Star Trek but your Dad will likely enjoy it anyway. I agree. Packed with action and adventure and even some emotion, funny moments and insider references.

AMAZON CUSTOMER REVIEW:

Amazon customer reviewer Damon DaRay gave Star Trek 5 stars. He praised the blu-ray picture quality and said it looks better at home than in the theatre. He praised, too, the special features saying it took him four horus to watch them all. He liked the solid metal statue and called it awesome although it was not quite as tall as he anticipated. ~ Damon DaRay Stuido

Even the Amazon customer reviews are complimentary. D. Ferrari says that this movie really felt like Star Trek to him. He said it has the attitude he expected. Elton V. Pinto said that you would be letting yourself down if you like Star Trek, have a blu-ray player but don't buy this movie. Finally, Konrad Kern says that you will love this movie regardless of whether you are a Trekkie fan (and I agree.) It is packed with good acting, funny dialogue and a great storyline.

Expert Star Trek 2009 Movie Reviews

Star Trek Movie Review (2009) by the Movie Mom

Audiences should be set to stun with this splendid reboot of the 40-plus year old "Star Trek" series. By boldly going where many, many have gone before, J.J. Abrams of television's "Lost" and "Alias" has managed to make a thoroughly entertaining film that respects the fans but stands on its own.

THE FILM 120 minutes of unrelenting goose bumps. An artistic blood transfusion of immaculate execution...

Star Trek Blu-ray Review (2009) by Blu-ray.com

In 2009, a new film with a new cast portraying old favorites returned to the series' roots to explore strange new worlds populated not by new civilizations but more complex and understandably functional sets and wondrous special effects that improve not on the spirit but certainly the look and feel of the old classics while delivering a film that at once both satisfies the demands of longtime fans and welcomes newcomers eager to accept this version of "Star Trek" that doesn't break the mold but instead reshapes it to fabulous effect.

Star Trek Blu-ray Review (2009) by TheHDRoom

Space. The Final Frontier. A place few were willing to venture with the last two Star Trek: The Next Generation helmed films. On virtual life support, J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot collaborators reinvented the iconic franchise into something hardened Star Trek fans and casual moviegoers without an ounce of prior interest in the series could equally digest and enjoy.

"For this price, a Trek fan really can't go wrong with this set. You're getting 4 feature films (two great movies, one good one, and one stinker) with loads of special features and a full disc of (so-so) HD extras. The A/V quality is almost uniformly spectacular, especially in comparison with the TOS set. As far as I'm concerned, this is a must buy for a Trekkie/Trekker with an HD setup. Worth every penny." ~~ Matthew T. Weflen
