Star Wars USB Flash Drives

Need a unique gift idea for your favorite Star Wars fan? How about a Star Wars USB drive or an R2D2 hub! I discovered this line of nifty little gadgets last year while I was Christmas shopping. Since the men in my family are all Star Wars fans, I am always in the market for unusual gift ideas, something other than figures or t-shirts. What I found was a different kind of toy, specifically intended for older fans.

Star Wars USB drives and hubs are not only an awesome way to show-off a love of Star Wars, but they are functional too! As you will see, each device features a different character, so there is a wide variety from which to choose. Pick your favorite or collect them all - it's up to you. So, feel free to take a few minutes to browse through the assortment below. Among the choices, you will find classic Mimobots as well as the new designs by Funko. Take a look, but I'd like to offer a word of warning: if you are interested in one of these gadgets, you need to move fast because they are very popular and sell out quickly!

Not sure what a USB Flash Drive is?

Here's a little explanation.

A USB flash drive, also known as a thumb drive, a jump drive, or a stick drive, is a portable data storage device. In short, these tools allow you to copy files or other information from one computer and transfer it to another. Flash drives are rewriteable and can be used with any computer that has a USB port. They function in much the same way as disks, but are much smaller, faster, and more durable with a much greater storage capacity. You simply plug the USB flash drive into the port, save your information to that particular drive, then remove it and reinsert into the new location. Most USB drives are small enough to fit easily into your pocket. The amount of information that can be stored on a single flash drive varies widely from one product to the next, but they tend range anywhere from 1GB to 64GB.

Yoda USB Flash Drive

Yoda is one of the most popular characters in the entire Star Wars saga. Present in every movie except Episode 4, he is the greatest and wisest of all Jedi. The character's unusual appearance and unique pattern of speech set this Jedi Master apart from all others.

MOVIE FUN FACT: Though Muppeteer Frank Oz was the voice behind Yoda, Warwick Davis, the actor who played Wicket the Ewok, provided Yoda's physical presence in the "walking scenes" of Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace.

C3PO USB Flash Drive

MOVIE FUN FACT: In the original script for Star Wars, R2D2 spoke English and was given a rather foul vocabulary. Though his speech was obviously changed by the time of production, C3PO's reactions to it were left in the film.

Mimobot Star Wars USB Flash Drives

A History of this Designer Series

Many of the Star Wars USB drives shown here are from the Mimoco product line, Mimobot. Star Wars Mimobots first appeared on the market in 2006 with the issuance of four Series 1 designer flash drives, including Darth Vader, R2D2, Chewbacca, and an Imperial Stormtrooper. In 2007, Mimoco released Series 2 and four more characters, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Boba Fett, were added to the mix. The Mimobot Series 3 arrived in 2008 in celebration of the 25th anniversary of Return of the Jedi. Wicket the Ewok, the Emperor's Royal Guard, Darth Sidious, and C3PO joined the product line. The most recent installment of designer Star Wars USB drives occurred earlier this year, when Darth Maul, Clone Captain Rex, and Darth Vader Unmasked were released. This latest addition, Series 4, was done to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Star Wars Episode 1.

In addition to the previous series releases, Mimoco also issued a few limited edition products as well. Among these was the third limited edition version of the Darth Vader Unmasked USB drive, which is named the Luke Dagobah Variant. Released at the San Diego, CA Comic Con '09, only 500 of this particular item were produced. The ever popular R2D2 USB drive from Series 1 was also re-released in a super-limited 8GB edition, consisting of only 100 units, again as a San Diego Comic Con exclusive.

Darth Vader USB Drive

Darth Vader is the ultimate evil villain. Once a gifted Jedi who studied under Obi Wan Kenobi, the powerful Lord was manipulated into joining the dark side by the maniacal Darth Sidious. Mysterious and menacing, very little was known of the character's true identity prior to the 1999 release of the first Star Wars prequel, Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. In fact, throughout the original trilogy, fans were given very few glances behind Darth Vader's mask.

He's cool! He's practical! He's just 3 inches tall! Here you can get this awesome miniature version of Lord Vader in the form of a practical portable thumb drive. A Darth Vader USB drive would make an excellent gift for any Star Wars fan!

Darth Vader Unmasked

MOVIE FUN FACT: In the original Star Wars trilogy, the role of Darth Vader was played by more than one person. First, there was David Prowse, a nearly 6'7" tall English bodybuilder, who provided the physical presence. Secondly, the great James Earl Jones is known to have given Darth Vader his voice. Finally, it was the face of British actor, Sebastian Shaw, whom everyone saw at the end of Return of the Jedi when Darth Vader was at last unmasked.

Many thanks to my husband for this Movie Fun Fact.
