Starbucks K Cup

Starbucks got into this deal with Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Inc. back in March of 2011 and it will not only distribute it's coffee but also Tazo Tea in Keurig's k cup portion packs. Green Mountain sells k cups under different brands including Caribou Coffee, Gloria Jean's and Van Houtte. Net sales for the Keurig business soared 55% in the quarter ending June 25, 2011 as consumers bought more single-cup brewers and k cups.

If you are like me, and one for convenience, I find that the k cups have made my life so much easier. I get up in the morning, turn the machine on, and within minutes I have my first cup of nice hot coffee. No more measuring coffee into a filter, having to make more than you really need, then in a rush, you leave the house and the coffee sits in the pot all day. Those days are gone! Now that Keurig has come out with their Single Serve Coffee Brewers, it has done away with those other 4-8 cup pots.

The Starbucks story began in 1971. The first Starbucks was opened in Seattle, Washington, on March 30, 1971 by three partners: an English teacher named Jerry Baldwin, a history teacher named Zev Siegl, and a writer named Gordon Bowker. They were inspired by friend and entrepreneur Alfred Peet, who encouraged them to sell high-quality coffee beans and equipment. The name of the company is taken from Moby-Dick; after Pequod was rejected by one of the co-founders, the company was named for the first mate on the Pequod, Starbuck. The logo is also inspired by the sea - featuring a twin-tailed siren from Greek mythology.
