Starbucks vs. Dunkin' Donuts : Coffee Wars

It's Coffee wars pitting Starbucks vs Dunkin' Donuts!

Welcome to the topicable debate of STARBUCKS vs. DUNKIN' DONUTS -- Coffee WARS!

Do you prefer Starbucks or do you prefer Dunkin' Donuts coffee? I was just reading that Susan Gunelius wrote a blog post about this very lens topic. It seems that Dunkin' Donuts sponsored the research study through A&G Research to return the conclusion that more "hard working Americans" prefer Dunkin' Donuts coffee over Starbucks. Well, you don't get any more 'hard working' than JaguarJulie. And, JaguarJulie thinks STARBUCKS has the best coffee.

My ex-hubby was always telling me that DUNKIN' DONUTS is the STARBUCKS of the Northeast. I don't know about that as I haven't visited the Northeast lately ... how about you? STARBUCKS or DUNKIN' DONUTS?

So you want a GOOD cup of COFFEE or a donut? For me, it's a GOOD cup of COFFEE and it's 5 STARS for STARBUCKS?

I have Starbucks when I'm out and about, but I have Dunkin Donuts at home. So I haven't been faithful to either.

No way, Monkeybrain! DUNKIN' DONUTS

Dunkin by the slightest of margins, the proverbial gnat on the nose of a horse in a photo finish. Good job!

I enjoy them all and usually have several different brands on hand, but mostly it's Dunkin Donuts that I brew. Great lens!

I took the challenge to my house. I made the coffee in a french press, the first batch had the french press washed right before brewing the coffee (I re-washed for the second batch). I used the coffee grinder to grind each at the same amount of pulses. Same Electric Kettle to boil the water, the difference was amazing. That particular morning I preferred the dunkin' doughnuts coffee.

Just because I preferred the Dunkin' does not mean the coffee is better at Dunkin' It's simply my preference, I did like the bitterness that the Starbuck's coffee had to offer, If I was in more of a mood for something leaning towards espresso (note not expresso as most people seems to call it) I might reach for the star buck's.

Today I was in the mood for regular coffee extra cream extra sugar, both cups of coffee had the same brew time 5 min and temp 204 degrees F. The cream and sugar were in equal amounts, Both were the regular blend of coffee from each company. Both cups were from the top of the batch. (meaning not at the bottom of the french press when finished)

The Dunkin' Had an almost non existent bitterness with a spectrum of mild to rich flavors where as the Starbuck's The bitter part was most of the flavor with some rich undertones. I liked the aroma of the Star buck's ( I think this is what heaven smells like) coffee un-processed better than the Dunkin', but when brewed I liked the opposite better. All in all a delicious experiment.

If you have not brewed from a french press before I highly recommend it. It gives you an amazing amount of control on the finished product. If you haven't guessed I do love consistency.

That's a definite! I often refer to it as my daily transfusion but generally like the coffee I make at home or the office (Folgers) over buying it out...but then again I'll drink "camp coffee" too!
