HERE'S WHAT I THINK

STARBUCKS vs. DUNKIN' DONUTS -- Coffee WARS!

Do you prefer Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts coffee? I was just reading that Susan Gunelius wrote a blog post about this very lens topic. It seems that Dunkin' Donuts sponsored the research study through A&G Research to return the conclusion that more "hard working Americans" prefer Dunkin' Donuts coffee over Starbucks. Well, you don't get any more 'hard working' than JaguarJulie. And, JaguarJulie thinks STARBUCKS has the best coffee.

My hubby tells me that DUNKIN' DONUTS is the STARBUCKS of the Northeast. I don't know about that as I haven't visited the Northeast lately ... how about you? STARBUCKS or DUNKIN' DONUTS?

So you want a GOOD cup of COFFEE or a donut? For me, it's a GOOD cup of COFFEE and it's 5 STARS for STARBUCKS?

This cat loves Starbucks coffee!

I love the Starbucks logo AND the sleeves!

STARBUCKS vs. DUNKIN' DONUTS: Coffee WARS!

Loading Fetching blurbs now... please stand by

Yes, you're right! STARBUCKS!!

CherylK says:

Starbucks, absolutely! Not only is the coffee top notch, I like their philosophy.

Angela Steele says:

Ambiance wise, Starbucks beat Dunkin' Donuts hands down.

CoolFoto says:

Starbucks! Their store is even has more comfortable chairs for sitting while you enjoy your drink. Dunking Donuts is more like a trucker's stop, very fast and utilitarian.

a says:

STARBUCKS

Sojourn says:

Starbucks! Anyone else have the the black club card? Can't live without it! :)

Richard says:

i dont even like coffee but i do agree that Starbucks is way better with other beverages too like hot chocolate....YUMM We don't have dunkin donuts here in Montana, but i have tried it a few times and i hated it!

kiwisoutback says:

Again, Starbucks! I have two words for you Dunkin's people:
FLAVOR SHOTS. Those things are really bad tasting.. and I have another bombshell for you.. Dunkin's is (or at least was) supplied by Chock Full o' Nuts.. yeah, that same stuff that you can get in the grocery store for pennies and tastes like swill. Yuck.

Tien says:

starbucks of course!! dunkin donuts will never be a coffee shop. they only ever started this debate because they wanted more customers so they thought they'd tap into the anti-starbucks market.

orangejack says:

Starbucks. I get drip coffee and the taste is better at Starbucks and the price per ounce is about the same.

Mickie_G says:

Starbucks fer sure!

lilkon says:

Would you believe that there is a Starbucks right next door to a Dunkin' Donuts where I live. Starbucks was there first. Doesn't make any sense to me. I prefer Starbucks though.

gcarone says:

Help me!!! I live in Italy and we don't have Starbucks or DD. But when I come in the States, I prefer Frappuccino Starbucks

jenms says:

Starbucks! I love an iced mocha year round, regular mocha in the winter and on occasion, a peppermint mocha.

genesis says:

starbucks is wayy better than dunkin donuts today i went to dunkin donuts and the capucino was nasty

Carol_Wingert says:

I agree with the kitty! Actually he looks like me drinking to the last drop! LOL

NJmom says:

I'm from the north east, and dunkin' donuts is far more popular. (Note i said popular, not better). As both a wine and coffee lover, i have to draw some similarities. If you like wine coolers, flavored wine, or just cheap wine with no flavor, than you are most likely a DD lover. If you enjoy deep, rich flavorful red wines, then you can appreciate the subtleties in variety that starbucks serves.

By deep roasting the beans, starbucks is able to really show off the character of each variety. Because DD doesn't roast their beans nearly as long, it produces a milder & weaver flavor. So for the majority of people who just want to get their caffine down - choose DD. If you actually want to taste coffee, chose starbucks.

Shazam says:

THEY'RE BOTH REVOLTING. Sorry but America and Canada...you have NO idea how to make coffee. Good at putting on weight yes, but not good at making coffee. A flat white from a non-chain cafe. That's a coffee. I remember having Tim Horton's talked up to me...then I tried it...I think it came straight back out of my mouth.

RichLeigh says:

I'm not a big coffee fan.... I love Starbucks cold caramel/chocolate coffee drinks however so my choice is most definitely Starbucks!

Rock_The_Ice says:

I virtually live in Starbucks and I'd sell my soul for a frappuchino! ^_^

sherri_g85 says:

I love my iced soy sugar free vanilla latte's.. mmmm.. ^_^ I'm a Starbucks barista too, but that is not the only reason why I'm voting for Starbucks. I just love their variety of drinks that they offer. I love going to starbucks, it's a great environment to just relax and get away. Dunkin Donuts don't provide that, so Starbucks allll the way! haha =]

No way, Monkeybrain! DUNKIN' DONUTS

Angela Steele says:

Dunkin' Donuts coffee taste better that Starbucks coffee because it does not taste burnt.

Easton PA Resident says:

Dunkin owns. starbucks is overpriced garbage. DD got good donuts too!

luvmyludwig says:

I love Dunkin' Donuts coffee is the best, I love love love the raspberry coffee with extra cream extra sugar.

papawu says:

Hands down, Dunkin' has the best coffee. We don't really have them in Southern California, so I am only able to indulge when I am outside of California and I always find myself almost going through withdrawl symptoms.

aaron says:

Starbucks coffee is bitter and way over prices. Dunkin Donuts uses a better quality bean. The coffee is smooth and full. Its cheap too.

ChloeComfort says:

Gotta be the double d! There so much the staff at several different ones know me. Much tastier than starbucks.

poutine says:

Actually, here in Canada, we also have Tim Horton's Donuts and I
prefer their coffee to the 2 other ones mentionned.

bgamall says:

I have to say that dunkin donuts has a very smooth flavor and smells great. I normally like darker coffee, but the flavor of dunkin is superior to Starbucks, but not to Seattle's Best.

Aika says:

Dunkin Donuts of course!

Hilda B. says:

STARBUCKS IS COFFEE IS REALLY STRONG EVEN IF I ASK FOR DECAF COFFEE, MY HEAD SEEMS TO HURT WHENEVER I DRINK STARBUCKS COFFEE,SO THAT BEING SAID I PREFER DUNKIN'DONUTS COFFEE, EVEN IF THERE'S STARBUCKS IN EVERY CORNER!!

CCGAL says:

It's all about the donuts - most people can't really taste the difference between Starbucks and Folger's if you make it Fresh, Hot and STRONG, so why pay so much extra? Dunkin' Donuts has the second best donuts on the planet - Lone Star Bakery in Round Rock, Texas being #1, so I vote for Dunkin' Donuts.

SolarFeline says:

Definitely prefer dunkin donuts. My pick is the mocha iced latte with whipped cream. Starbucks tastes too bitter. I also like the fact that a dunkin donuts, I don't have to add the sugar or milk myself.

Lori says:

Dunkin Donuts is the best coffee ever.

ElizabethJeanAllen says:

I'm not a coffee drinker so Dunkin Donuts gets my vote.
Lizzy

Jimmie says:

Well, Starbucks coffee is a bit better to me, but for the cheaper price, I'll definitely take Dunkin' Donuts. And besides, a donut is much better than those fakey pastries that Starbucks serves. So overall, I'd say DD!

christo says:

Duncan Donuts coffee is much better tasting and a lot more reasonably priced. I have only tasted Starbucks coffee a few times and it was burned tasting. NEVER again!

JustAls says:

Dunkin' Donuts here in NY!!!

Christopher says:

Starbucks coffee is burnt tasting and it is served searing hot in flimsy cups with fiddly paper sleeves. Twice when Dunkin Donuts was not an option I bought Starbucks coffee. Both times the bottom of the cup ripped out when I tried to pick it up from my GM cup holder. I got scalded, and the "coffee" spilled before I could drink it. Dunkin Donuts coffee is mild, not burnt, and served in sturdy cups. Why pay more for inferior coffee in flimsy cups and snotty service?

Margo_Arrowsmith says:

I don't drink coffee, but I have always wondered at the prices at Starbucks...can't be worth it

Plus, I advocate going to locally owned shops, not the big giants.

I guess since there are fewer Dunkin's I would vote for them.

Kaela says:

I love Dunkin' Donuts!

The facts on Starbucks

Starbucks Corporation () is an international coffee and coffeehouse chain based in Seattle, Washington, United States. Starbucks is the largest coffeehouse company in the world, with 16,635 stores in 49 countries, including 11,068 (6,764 Company Owned, 4,304 Franchised) in the United States, followed by nearly 1,000 in Canada and more than 800 in Japan. Starbucks sells drip brewed coffee, espresso-based hot drinks, other hot and cold drinks, snacks, and items such as mugs and coffee beans. Through the Starbucks Entertainment division and Hear Music brand, the company also markets books, music, and film. Many of the company's products are seasonal or specific to the locality of the store. Starbucks-brand ice cream and coffee are also offered at grocery stores.

From Starbucks' founding in later forms in Seattle as a local coffee bean roaster and retailer, the company has expanded rapidly. In the 1990s, Starbucks was opening a new store every workday, a pace that continued into the 2000s. The first store outside the United States or Canada opened in the mid-'90s, and overseas stores now constitute almost one third of Starbucks' stores. The company plans to open a net of 900 new stores outside of the United States in 2009, but has announced 900 store closures in the United States since 2008.

Starbucks has been a frequent target of protests on issues such as fair-trade policies, labor relations, environmental impact, perceived anti-competitive practices,* and rumors of support for the Israeli military.

The facts on Dunkin' Donuts

In 1946, William Rosenberg founded Industrial Luncheon Services as a company to deliver meals and "coffee break snacks" to customers in the outer reaches of Providence, Rhode Island. His business saw success and Rosenberg soon followed by opening up his first coffee and donut shop called "The Open Kettle". In 1950 he opened the first store known as "Dunkin' Donuts", which is still standing today at 543 Southern Artery in Quincy, Massachusetts[1]. Dunkin' began franchise operations in 1968 when William and Arleen Adie opened the first franchised Dunkin' Donuts in Chelmsford, MA.[2] To save on rent, Howdy Beefburger (a chain of fast food restaurants similar to McDonald's restaurants) frequently shared parking lots with Dunkin' Donuts shops. Howdy Beefburger could not compete, and had disappeared by 1980.

'Dunkin Donuts''' is an international donut and coffee retailer founded in 1950 in Quincy, Massachusetts by William Rosenberg.https://www.dunkindonuts.com/aboutus/ It is now headquartered in Canton, Massachusetts.

This is a great debate, Julie!! I agree with AndyPo about independent shops and we have two great independent coffee shops here in our little town. However, Starbucks is tops on my list because of their business ethics. Did you know that they purchase more fair trade coffeebeans than anyone else in the country? (And they do not burn their beans, imho.)

I'm with you, Julie - Starbucks! I travel a lot and the quality of my trip is based on how close the nearest Starbucks is to whatever hotel I'm staying in. Roughest city to visit for a Starbucks lover? Boston! If there's a Starbucks there, I haven't found it. They must have hidden it behind all the Dunkin Donuts. Drat. :)
