HERE'S WHAT I THINK

STARBUCKS vs. DUNKIN' DONUTS -- Coffee WARS!

Did you hear that STARBUCKS is closing down some 600 stores affecting some 12,000 workers? And, all this after they recently closed for 3 hours for employee training to refocus on making better coffee?

Well, I'm sure glad that I had my coffee fix already that day as I'm not sure where I would have gone for my coffee. You see, I think STARBUCKS has the best coffee.

My hubby tells me that DUNKIN' DONUTS is the STARBUCKS of the Northeast. I don't know about that as I haven't visited the Northeast lately ... how about you? STARBUCKS or DUNKIN' DONUTS?

So you want a GOOD cup of COFFEE or a donut? For me, it's a GOOD cup of COFFEE and it's 5 STARS for STARBUCKS?

I love the Starbucks logo AND the sleeves!

STARBUCKS vs. DUNKIN' DONUTS: Coffee WARS!

Yes, you're right! STARBUCKS!!

GreenRevolution says:

Starbucks coffee is good, however, my friends and I love their latte. They make the best latte and there's nothing better than sitting outside on the patio, sipping on a delicious latte during a beautiful summer evening. Wish you could all join us! :)

Mary Ann says:

STARBUCKS EXEMPLIFIES ALL THAT IS AMERICAN: HARD WORK + GENIUS + INTEGRITY + INSPIRATION + HAPPINESS WITH A JOB WELL DONE AND A PRODUCT AND LOGO THAT IS AS CLASSY AS AN OLD TIME HOLLYWOOD ACTOR. GOD BLESS YOU HOWARD SCHULTZ!

mark says:

Not even close. Starbucks blows away DD in almost every possible way.

abound_it_Inc says:

Hands down, Starbucks is the better brand. Starbucks not only provides excellent coffee, it is the lifestyle, atmosphere, and environment created within each of the stores. Starbucks all the way!

tajent says:

Honestly, w. all our long drives to and from LA on the beautiful stop n go traffic on the 405. I do not know what to do w.o. those drive threw starbucks we need more of them here in the O.C. Thanks Julie for being a fan!

desertsky says:

Absolutely Starbucks!

jgeogh01 says:

Starbucks for sure.

banquetmanager says:

Starbucks has some life to it. Besides, Duncan Donuts coffee is always too hot.
http://soyouwanttobeabanquetmanager.blogspot.com

RyanRE says:

Despite the fact that Starbuck recently sold my favorite NBA team, I still like the taste of their coffee. I lot of people think they roast their beans too long, but I like it.

BlakeH says:

Starbucks rocks. Dunkin Donuts is what I drink if there's no other option! I try to only drink quality dark roasted coffee and Starbucks does the trick.

KimGiancaterino says:

I love Starbucks!

JaguarJulie says:

Glad to hear all the boisterous support and differing opinions on the coffee wars. Did you hear about the ruccus concerning the mermaid logo???

BostonRob says:

I go to Starbucks for my cup of Joe and D & D for my yummy donuts.being a Boston guy I should say Dunkin all the way but SB coffee is just so good..

jill Litfin says:

i love them both! but starbucks is much greener..im all for any way to help the environment! (ahem no styrofoam cups!)

JaguarJulie says:

Last night, we stopped by our local Borders to look for an instructional manual on Access 2003 -- I was blown away by the cost of this Bible -- $50! Well, we got to try Seattle's Best Coffee. I'd rank it right up there with Starbucks.

cbailey says:

Starbucks, no question. Their product is so much higher quality than Dunkin' Donuts' coffee, it's just no contest. It's also the only coffee I buy by the bag for home use, though I like to sample all their different bold and extra bold blends. Yukon Blend will knock your socks off.

MothersPreciousGems says:

I actually LIVE in the Northeast and I say Starbucks hands down!

Kumar says:

McDonalds for cheap burger and fries, Starbucks for good Lattee and a coffee drinking environment.

Winter52 says:

No doubt about it... Starbucks, but then again I like my coffee STRONG. Can't stand weak coffee.

greg2213 says:

Starbucks all the way. We even buy Starbucks brand coffee beans and grind them at home in our own espresso maker. My wife thinks they're even better than those from Starbucks!

No way, Monkeybrain! DUNKIN' DONUTS

Michelle says:

Dunkin Donuts has the best Coffee, for the right price! I'm from the Northeast and every morning I can't function without my Medium ice coffee from Dunkin. Don't get me wrong. Starbucks does have an interesting variety of coffee. But lets face it, who really goes in and orders a different flavor everytime they walk into Starbucks. Mostly, customers go in and want there usual, and Dunkin Donuts gives that to you! 100% fresh ground Colombian coffee made the way you like it, everytime!! Not only is the coffee great, but u get a bang for your buck. So, I say Dunkin or Die! lol...and for the rest of the country that hasn't had the Dunkin experience...wake up People and get with the times! You don't know what you've been missing out on!

JetFuelOnly says:

Dunkin' Donuts!! It is more of a pleasure, since they are not on every street corner...And they've got great coffee, at a good price, AND their "pastries don't cost $5

tropicalstarlet says:

Dunkin' Donuts for sure! great taste at the right price.

neacie says:

Dunkin Donuts is better! There is no other choice for me. I recently moved back to Seattle after being in new england for 15 years and almost cried when I saw there was no DD! Starbucks is over rated, their service sucks and it costs too much. DD serves a hot, smooth, rich cup of coffee..every time. In fact I missed it so much I order my DD coffee on line and have automatic delivery right to my front door ;)For the price of 2 SB`s large coffees..I get the best coffee on earth delivered to my front door..2 pounds :D

beempa says:

My husband is from Chicago originally and he says Dunkin Donuts is by far the better "coffee" -- as long as that is what you want. He says Starbucks is "Faux Coffee" -- meaning it's more of a flavored Coffee. He said it is sort of like the difference between ordering a Krispy Kreme and a Dunkin Donut -- that while they're related, they're not really the same thing, with Krispy Kreme being superior. I'm not sure what he means, but as for me, I'd just like some hot tea. :)

lifelongfitness says:

I can't say I've had Dunkin' donuts coffee, but I've had Starbucks, and it was horrible. Might've been the only one time, but it was disgusting. For any of you Canadians....we all know Tim Hortons is the best.

tlljones says:

Starbucks coffee taste like the employees left the pot on overnight and served it to the customers the next morning. Dukin' Donuts is far better. If you live on the east coast, WaWa coffee tastes better than both Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts.

BFuniv.com says:

Starbucks coffee tastes bad. You have to add all sorts of extras to hide the taste. Any decent donut shoppe has coffee you can drink black - and taste the good flavors of coffee.

BradKamer says:

Dunkin Donuts. My lens says so!http://www.squidoo.com/commutercoffeeaddict

craigbic says:

Starbucks is wayyyy too bitter or sometimes even burnt and certainly wayyy overpriced! America just runs on Dunkin'

chunkie says:

if u want a mor FLAVA', thEn gO tO duNKIn dONuTs!! it's all good!!

mommyroxy says:

Dunkin' Donuts RULES!!! I moved from NY to KY and I miss my Dunkin' Donuts!! Starbucks just doesn't cut it.

beachbum_gabby says:

Dunkin' Donuts coffee and choco donuts, perfect combination!

Spunky says:

That's like deciding if i'd rather die by nail-gun or wood-plane; I'd prefer neither. If i HAD to choose, Dunkin has worse coffee and horrible service, but at least they aren't actively trying to kill the independent coffee shops. So Dunkin wins by the very slightest of margins. And their donuts are alright, if there isn't a Krispy Kreme around.

LeslieBrenner says:

Starbucks' coffee tastes burnt and bitter. I prefer Dunkin' Donuts' coffee. But, confess, I actually don't drink either.

Dark Haired Raven says:

I LOVE Dunkin' D's coffee. I'm an adict....must have it. Can't stand Starbucks. I think it tasts absolutely aweful. Yuck!

Food_Junkie says:

On second thought; since coffee makes you poop, Dunkin' Donuts is more likely to have a multi-stall bathroom.

Gigglesoup says:

Here's the deal. Starbucks coffee is good if you buy the beans and brew it yourself. Starbucks coffee at a Starbucks is way too strong and bitter and will grow hair on your chest. I don't want hair on my chest. Maybe some people do. I don't. Dunkin', on the other hand, is good out and at home. And, if you accidentally slip and fall into a box of delicious Dunkin' Donuts in the process, well... it's an accident, right? The calories don't count if it's an accident.

lexi1981 says:

When i want a coffee i want a COFFEE not a mocha swirl xtra light blah blah it takes 20 min just to order. Never mind going there in the morning its like a 6 hour event. Up here (Boston MA) all you can find is Dunkins. We dont need any commercial culture from Starbucks.

piratechic says:

I do not like monopolies -- vote for Dunkin.

The facts on Starbucks

Starbucks Corporation () is an international coffee and coffeehouse chain based in Seattle, Washington. Starbucks is the largest coffeehouse company in the world,Hoovers.com. URL last accessed September 5, 2006. with 15,012 stores in 44 countries.Starbucks Company Fact Sheet. URL last accessed March 17, 2007. Domestic growth has since slowed, although the company continues to expand in foreign markets and is opening seven stores a day worldwide. By late March 2008, Starbucks had more than 16,226 stores worldwide, including 11,434 stores located in the U.S. On July 1, 2008, the company announced it was closing 600 under-performing company-owned stores and cutting U.S. expansion plans amid growing economic uncertainty.http://online.wsj.com/article/SB121494400432420449.html?mod=hps_us_whats_news These closings have effectively ended the period of prolific growth and expansion the company began in the mid-1990s.

The facts on Dunkin' Donuts

In 1946, William Rosenberg founded Industrial Luncheon Services as a company to deliver meals and "coffee break snacks" to customers in the outer reaches of Providence, Rhode Island. His business saw success and Rosenberg soon followed by opening up his first coffee and donut shop called "The Open Kettle". In 1950 he opened the first store known as "Dunkin' Donuts", which is still standing today at 543 Southern Artery in Quincy, Massachusetts[1]. Dunkin' began franchise operations in 1968 when William and Arleen Adie opened the first franchised Dunkin' Donuts in Chelmsford, MA.[2] To save on rent, Howdy Beefburger (a chain of fast food restaurants similar to McDonald's restaurants) frequently shared parking lots with Dunkin' Donuts shops. Howdy Beefburger could not compete, and had disappeared by 1980.

'Dunkin Donuts''' is an international coffee and donut retailer founded in 1950 in Quincy, Massachusetts, U.S. by William Rosenberg.

Many years ago, stopping by Duncan Donuts was a treat, especially the donuts are so good and there was no Starbucks. But as I've aged, so has my taste. I enjoy Starbucks coffee better now but duncan Donuts are still the best.

Julie ~ I write this as my coffee is brewing this morning. While I do love to flirt with the Starbucks girls as they make my Triple Tall Americano, at home I prefer Torrefazione Coffee.
P.S. I just finished a new lens on HDR Photography.
