Do you just have to have that morning coffee? What brew is your best?

  • nightcats Jun 1, 2012 @ 1:25 pm | delete
Hi Julie. Happy Donut Day. And yes, I have to have my morning coffee. Lots of it. My favorite brews are the flavored ones that taste like Irish Cream or Cinnamon or what not.

What a cute idea for a lens! Everybody loves coffee - well everyone who is in the KNOW.
  • cmorris Apr 15, 2012 @ 3:01 pm | delete
Yes, I am an everyday coffee drinker. It is the first thing to do in the morning. I like going to starbucks and using the drive thru window to get that venti mocha. Use your starbucks card to get those reward points and move up levels. They give you a free cup of coffee on your birthday. http://get-coffee-cards.blogspot.com

I enjoy them all and usually have several different brands on hand, but mostly it's Dunkin Donuts that I brew. Great lens!

Of the two - Dunkin' get my vote... for sure.

McDonald's and Subway use Seattle's Best. My fav is Major Dickason blend by Peet's Coffee. Fun Lens!

I took the challenge to my house. I made the coffee in a french press, the first batch had the french press washed right before brewing the coffee (I re-washed for the second batch). I used the coffee grinder to grind each at the same amount of pulses. Same Electric Kettle to boil the water, the difference was amazing. That particular morning I preferred the dunkin' doughnuts coffee.

Just because I preferred the Dunkin' does not mean the coffee is better at Dunkin' It's simply my preference, I did like the bitterness that the Starbuck's coffee had to offer, If I was in more of a mood for something leaning towards espresso (note not expresso as most people seems to call it) I might reach for the star buck's.

Today I was in the mood for regular coffee extra cream extra sugar, both cups of coffee had the same brew time 5 min and temp 204 degrees F. The cream and sugar were in equal amounts, Both were the regular blend of coffee from each company. Both cups were from the top of the batch. (meaning not at the bottom of the french press when finished)

The Dunkin' Had an almost non existent bitterness with a spectrum of mild to rich flavors where as the Starbuck's The bitter part was most of the flavor with some rich undertones. I liked the aroma of the Star buck's ( I think this is what heaven smells like) coffee un-processed better than the Dunkin', but when brewed I liked the opposite better. All in all a delicious experiment.

If you have not brewed from a french press before I highly recommend it. It gives you an amazing amount of control on the finished product. If you haven't guessed I do love consistency.

That's a definite! I often refer to it as my daily transfusion but generally like the coffee I make at home or the office (Folgers) over buying it out...but then again I'll drink "camp coffee" too!

  • sousababy Oct 12, 2011 @ 7:51 pm | delete
Being Canadian, I must say Tim Horton's coffee is the best. I have had Starbucks though (not Dunkin Donuts - hence I didn't feel I could vote in all fairness in your dual debate). Great lens!

Dunkin' Donuts is the better coffee hands down, but if we are talking best Barista made coffee then order the Triple Grande White mocha from Starbucks. That's my typical order at Starbucks.
  • TravelingRae Jun 14, 2011 @ 8:51 pm | delete
If I go out for coffee, the first choice is Starbucks. The runner up is McDonalds. Dunkin' doesn't even make the list! (It was worth visiting this lens just for that Starbucks commercial, LOL!)

I enjoyed this debate! I do love DD coffee because of its simple taste and mouthwatering aroma but I also have Starbucks favorites that's why it is hard to choose which I prefer most.
  • Giftclubguru Feb 9, 2010 @ 12:35 pm | delete
DD is the place for ordinary business meetings, clean coffee is very good and you allway find a quiet spot for contract signing, interviews, discution. Starbuck is the snobbish place where 1/2 of tables have people with laptops. for me DD is a place for business mettings when SB is a place where you want to be by yourself and meet people

This is a great debate coffee is the lifeblood of a lot of early morning risers . This very popular question is getting a feature spot on my other peoples lenses lens :) good work
  • CherylK Oct 1, 2009 @ 8:24 am | delete
This is a great debate, Julie!! I agree with AndyPo about independent shops and we have two great independent coffee shops here in our little town. However, Starbucks is tops on my list because of their business ethics. Did you know that they purchase more fair trade coffeebeans than anyone else in the country? (And they do not burn their beans, imho.)
  • Sojourn Aug 5, 2009 @ 8:20 pm | delete
I'm with you, Julie - Starbucks! I travel a lot and the quality of my trip is based on how close the nearest Starbucks is to whatever hotel I'm staying in. Roughest city to visit for a Starbucks lover? Boston! If there's a Starbucks there, I haven't found it. They must have hidden it behind all the Dunkin Donuts. Drat. :)
  • AndyPo May 21, 2009 @ 9:45 am | delete
Great idea for a debate. I like small independent coffee shops best, but there are so few of them left. In England Starbucks have won the battle; there are very few Dunkin Donuts, but a Starbucks on every highstreet.
  • papawu May 5, 2009 @ 12:56 pm | delete
Great debate. Although, I must say that all the Starbuck's lovers are coffee elitists and they may continue to pay the Starbuck's brand prices. Me, I will go for the X-large 2 dollar Dunkin' Arabica bean coffee.
  • kiwisoutback May 4, 2009 @ 2:48 pm | delete
I think this is my favorite Hey Monkeybrain lens. In Massachusetts here we have some die hard Dunkin lovers. It's their home base.. they were founded in Quincy, MA just a few minutes from where I live. I worked for them for a while, and I saw behind the scenes how they make everything and how corporate treats its employees and franchisees. I wasn't impressed! But I am by this lens. Squid Angel blessed!

  • chicandsavvy Apr 21, 2009 @ 9:27 pm | delete
I agree that Starbucks is better than DD. This was fun to read especially since I'm tired. Lots of info without being boring or overwhelming. 5*'s.
  • Treasures-By-Brenda Apr 8, 2009 @ 8:00 am | delete
McDonalds has the best coffee in Canada -- against Tim Horton's, Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts and all the rest...it has been scientifically proven, by my husband! Despite the fact that there are lots of those non-recyclable paper coffee cups on this page, it has been blessed anyway by a newly minted SquidAngel.

  • Mar 13, 2009 @ 2:05 pm | delete
great lens!! i like that you have a lot of debate lenses.
  • Treasures-By-Brenda Mar 13, 2009 @ 9:10 am | delete
I have to admit it. (Dare I on this page full of coffee lovers?) I do not drink coffee! If you want to run a similar debate on tea, I'd happily get engaged in the debate...Tim Horton's has steeped tea...that's better than a bag in a cup any old day!

The major problem with all of these coffee shops, whether it is Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, Tim Horton's or any other one, is those pesky paper cups. Twenty-two percent of the litter picked up in Nova Scotia is...you got it...Tim Horton's coffee cups. I hope you will visit my lens about Banning Paper Coffee Cups and tell me whether you think paper cups should be banned or not!

Very nice Monkeybrains lens, lensrolled to the aforementioned lens and to my lens about Chaleur Coffee Mugs.
