Terran - My Favorite Race

Personally I hate Zerg and I hateProtoss even more. Terran is just so sexy and cool to play, and when played correctly Terran is incredibly strong.

I've played over 700 games with Terran and I've learned quite a few tricks and strategies that I'm going to share with you.

Some of these strategies I learned by trial and error, some from other players and many from Shokz Starcraft 2 Pro Strategy Guide. (more about that later)

Shokz Starcraft 2 Strategy Guide

I personally recommend that you get a Starcraft 2 Strategy Guide to learn the basic strategies the pro players use.

I bought Shokz Guide when I bought the game, and it immediately got me to Platinum League within 2 weeks. I never learnt proper strategy in the original Starcraft, and as a result I was always a very noob player. Even if you think you know the game, unless you are among the top players you will learn many new things from Shokz Guide, and it will up your game tremendously.

Not only will it make you a better player and get you a better rank, when you use the correct strategy, the game becomes so much more fun and challenging.

Mass Marine

The Mass Marine Strategy is most effective against Protoss.

Against Terran it's not smart because 1 siege tank can kill of all your marines.

Against Zerg it can work but Banelings wipe out your marines very easily.

Against Protoss it is effective because his only counter is cloaked Templars or Colossus, which both take a bit of tech to get up to.

The strategy involves building 3-4 barracks (Start with 2 and add as you have the resources available.
1 Tech lab and the rest all reactors. You want to upgrade the marines constantly, first starting with stim packs and then shields, and then at the engineering bay.

Hotkey all your barracks and keep them pumping out marines, when you get to a critical level of marines (15-20 then go out and attack, in the meantime keep building. That way you can just keep the waves coming, and if there are no Colossus or Dark Templar, then it's game over, 7 or more times out of 10 this strategy wins against Protoss.

Proxy Build Strategy

The Proxy Build means that you build your barracks very near to or in the base of your opponent right from the start.

This works well on maps with only 2 spawning points because you know where your opponent is. If your opponent does not scout early then you easily overpower him and the game can be won in a matter of minutes.

Against Zerg I like to sometimes build 2 barracks at the bottom of his ramp immediately, locking him in. Then if he does not realize, I will take my scv and build a bunker in his base. If he does realize i will just keep building marines behind the barracks and he can't get out, at least not until he techs up. This gives you time to get siege tanks or to expand even while he is trapped.

Be warned though, against a skillful player this will not work, and if he spots you in time he can kill your scv's building the barracks before you get them up and then your strategy fails. Always be ready to adjust!

Reaper Rush Strategy

The Reaper Rush Strategy works well against other Terran players. It is not good against Protoss or Zerg because Protoss only needs 1 Stalker to kill your Reapers and Zerg can easily put up spine-crawlers.

Against an unsuspecting Terran player, 3 reapers with more on the way can absolutely devestate him. 3 Reapers each need 1 shot on the same Scv to kill it, so with 3 Reapers you can take out all his Scv's very quickly. The counter to Reapers are Marauders, and if you see your opponent building those then you need to stop building Reapers immediately and tech up to something else.

Siege Tank & Marine Drop Strategy

The Siege Tank Drop Strategy is one that works well against all 3 races, provided that they don't know what you are up to.

Do a standard build of Scv's, Supply Depot, Barracks, Scv's, 2 Refineries,Supply Depot to Wall off the ramp,Factory,Tech Lab,Siege Tank,Starport,Reactor on Starport,Medivacs.

When you have 2-3 tanks and 8-12 marines you want to take 3 dropships and if possible drop in his mineral line. Immediately siege the tanks when you land use the marines to protect the tanks. A well-timed drop like this sets him back so far that it's almost always GG.
