StarCraft 2 Units
There is much for fans to look forward to in terms of new and improved Starcraft 2 units. Some units have undergone sophisticated revamps, while others are altogether new creations. All in all, the units of Starcraft 2 will offer players a new and improved gaming experience.
StarCraft 2 Units - The New Additions
Blizzard has still not announced many of the Zerg unit updates, but they have revealed that Zerglings will receive new abilities in the upcoming release.
Each Zergling will have the ability to be ordered into a transition state where it will transform into a green lethal suicide bomb, otherwise known as a Baneling. This Baneling can then be rolled across the landscape where it will prove to be especially fatal for anything near it when it explodes. Most players have an abundance of Zerglings, so the added functionality of them being able to morph into strategic suicide bombs will prove to be particularly useful.
Not much is known about the Nydus Worm, a unit that borrows its name from the Nydus Canal. It will have a similar function as the Nydus Canal in the original Starcraft. It will swiftly transport zerg units across vast stretches of land. However, there are also some uncertainties as to whether the Nydus worm will be cut from the game.
Much like the Zerg units, very little has been revealed about what Starcraft 2 has in store for Terran units.
However, a completely new unit, the Reaper, will be introduced. They will be armed with dual machine pistols and will have the functionality of jump jets. Jump jets will allow reapers to exploit weak spots in a high up base by easily jumping up or down a tier.
The Battlecruiser unit will be back in Starcraft 2 and will have undergone a significant revamp. The weaknesses of the Battlecruiser in the previous game installments have been addressed, and the Battlecruiser unit will now be able to assail manifold targets with multiple shots.
Another exciting new Terran unit that will get players talking is Thor, a unit that has only been seen in screen shots that show it leading battle against swarming adversaries by means of explosive air strike.
The Viking is a transforming unit that will also grace the battleground of Starcraft 2. The Terran race will surely be aided by this transformable unit that can change from being a ground unit to an air unit, making it extremely versatile.
Compared to Zerg and Terran Starcraft 2 units, more information about Protoss units and upgrades has been released and leaked to date.
Zealot units aren't new, but they will have improved charge ability. The psi-blade wielders will be able to chase down their fleeing enemies with greater ease.
The introduction of the Immortal is the cause of much excitement. This ground unit will be seriously armored and will be a good defense against adversary artillery such as tanks. The introduction of the Immortal reveals Blizzard's intention to balance the scales in Protoss versus Terran combat.
Comparable to the Immortal is the Stalker, a new quadripedal unit that has the ability to teleport ahead a short distance to gain an advantage on its enemy. This unit will certainly make for interesting game play.
A new flying unit is the Warp Ray. It has the ability to discharge an incessant laser that increases in damage output as long as it fires. They're effective against greatly armored enemies, but they are also inclined to be destroyed by small arms fire.
Another new flying unit is the Phoenix, a unit that will replace the corsair and scout units from the original Starcraft. This unit will have the ability to overcharge it weapons which will allow for considerable burst damage.
The shuttle from the original Starcraft will be substituted by the phase prism. It will move Protoss units swiftly across the battlefield and it will boast a new feature called 'phasing mode,' which will allow the phase prism to morph into a short-term pylon so that active buildings can be erected around it.
Another entirely new Protoss unit is the Colossus, a giant, laser-shooting robot. A notable feature of this new unit is its ability to walk up and down terrain obstacles such as cliffs and rock ledges. Its long legs will ensure unique maneuvering, and its sweeping laser will prove lethal to Zerg swarms or hordes of reapers or marines.
The Protoss unit that will surely have everyone talking is the Mothership. It is the only announced 'superunit'. It is a unit designed for serious annihilation. The Mothership is so potent that only one unit can be present on the battlefield at one time. Three incredibly powerful abilities will ensure maximum damage.
The limited information that has been released regarding the new Starcraft 2 units reveals that players have much to look forward to in the next installment of this intergalactic strategy game.
