StarGate SG1 / Best Science Fiction Series Ever

The Developers of Stargate SG1 came up with what I think is the best sci fi series ever! With all the rehashed crap on TV, Stargate stands out as the most inventive and complete evolution of stories and characters in a series.
The story line allowed for a wider range of hero verses enemy scenarios to be developed. Sure they had a common enemy in the Goa'uld, but with the division in system lords, it left the opportunity for the outmatched human team to overcome great odds and defeat the seemingly all powerful.

Stargate Sg1 created by Brad Wright and Jonathan Glassner, is based on the 1994 feature film Stargate by Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich. The television series was filmed in and around the city of Vancouver, British Columbia. Showtime broadcast the first five seasons beginning in 1997 before the series moved to the Sci Fi Channel for its last five seasons. With 10 seasons and 214 episodes Stargate SG-1 is one of the longest running series.

SG1 Cast

The Stars Make The Show

stargate original cast

While Richard Dean Anderson was the biggest name starring in the original series, Michael Shanks starred in the original movie as Daniel Jackson. The part of Col. Jack O'Neil was played by Kurt Russell, who did a wonderful job I might add. Samantha Carter played by Amanda Tapping, and Teal'c played by Christopher Judge rounds out the original SG1 team.

Jack Retires

Jack gets promoted to General and needs a replacement.

stargate sg1 final cast

Who could replace Jack? No one that is why they created a new character to lead the team and keep The Jack O'Neil character alive. Lieutenant Colonel Cameron Mitchell ( Ben Browder ) gets the team back together SG-1 team's off-screen separation after the previous season. Another addition to the team was Vala Mal Doran (Claudia Black) who was created by Damian Kindler and Robert C. Cooper as a guest character for the season 8 episode "Prometheus Unbound" (2004). The on-screen chemistry between Vala and Michael Shanks' character Daniel Jackson, and the character's popularity with the producers and the audience, Claudia Black became a recurring guest star in season 9 (2005-2006) and joined the main cast in season 10 (2006-2007).

New SG1 Enemies

The Ori Prove To Be A Bigger Threat Than The Goa'uld!

The Ori

The Ori are a group of "ascended" beings who use their advanced technology and knowledge of the universe to attempt to trick non-ascended humans into worshipping them as gods.
They first appeared in the ninth season of Stargate SG-1, replacing the Goa'uld as the show's primary enemies.

The producers had grown creatively tired of writing endings. They had good experiences with the first season of Stargate Atlantis, so the producers decided to revamp the series in more fronts than just adding new characters by introducing new villains and new missions. Thus they considered the beginning of Season 9 as the pilot of a new show.

Michael Shanks starred in the original movie as Daniel Jackson. NOT TRUE
James Spader played Daniel Jackson in the original movie alongside Kurt Russell who played Jack O'Neill. There was NO Tealc or Sam Carter in the movie.

I'm glad you pointed that out. I was so upset when James Spader didn't come back in the TV series but Michael Shanks did a great job. I didn't really expect Kurt Russell to come back as O'Neill, so I was pleased when Richard Dean Anderson took that role. great show all around and I love how the series picked up exactly where the movie left off. When you go back and watch the movie after watching the series, it's all in a much larger context. I preferred the Mili Avital as the first Shau'ri though.
