Infoshop News - Women of the Underworld: On Being Thrown Out of Israel
What stays with me most from the last few days is the kindness of women. Just ordinary women, caught in bad circumstances, being nice to one another. I've spent a lot of the last week being searched, questioned, detained, jailed, and ultimately denied entry and deported from the State of Israel--that land which I had been raised to believe would always be the ultimate refuge for anyone born Jewish. But not, apparently, for me.

THE FIFTH SACRED THING

fiction by Starhawk

If you really want to get an idea of what sort of world Starhawk is working to birth, this book paints a very clear picture. Set in the Bay Area of the near future, it centers on an area that has separated itself from the rest of the US and which lives and works in sustainable harmony with the Earth.

I have the spiral dance from ages ago. Reading this lens makes me want to dig it out and read it again. I wish I had an eidetic memory! So many books so little time.

My very first Wicca book was by Starhawk. I am glad that she speaks out on issues. I love her fiction books as well, both Fifth Sacred Thing and Walking to Mercury. Thanks for featuring her on this great lens.

I've been a big fan of Starhawk's since the late 80's or so, and have had the chance to meet her several times here in Seattle. She'll be coming to visit here again sometime this month, to do a Women of Wisdom lecture. It's a shame that she was deported from Israel/Palestine, as she has been doing great work for the peace process; but she mentioned, when writing articles the last time she was there, that she half-expected that this would happen the next time she came. I hope things change over there very soon, and that Star never gives up (not that I think she would, of course)...

I love Starhawk - I used to have more exposure when I lived in the Bay Area. I love our freedom in America to express ourselves.
