Start Homeschooling

More and more parents are making or considering the switch to home-based schooling for their children. There are a variety of reasons why each parent makes this decision, but most of them do it because they feel there is something that the public or private school system is not giving their child that they as parents can.

If you came to this lens searching for information on how to start homeschooling, then you have come to the right place. There are a variety of helpful resources here that can help you make the schooling decision that is right for both you and your child.

5 Reasons Why Parents Choose to Start Homeschooling

Although there are a wide variety of reasons why parents decide to start homeschooling, most of the reasons have to do with a parent looking out for the best interest of the child. The five most common reasons for parents making the switch can be found below. Even if your particular reason does not fall into the categories below, it does not mean that you have made the wrong decision. It simply means that your child may be in need of something else that is not listed. Always trust your instincts when it comes to the welfare of your child.

1. Provides a More Flexible Schedule

Many parents decide to start homeschooling because they need a more flexible schedule that the one that their child's school district is currently offering. For instance, a single parent may only be able to work certain hours each day and may not be able to afford child care to make up the gaps in their child's schedule and when they return home. In this case, homeschooling gives both the parent and child time to learn when it is best for them.

2. There is a Decreased Risk of Peer Pressure

Children are growing up faster than ever before, and with this comes the risk for children to experience peer pressure and get into trouble. In an effort to help their children escape the pressure and stay clear of harmful influences, many parents choose to start homeschooling their child once they reach an age that is easily influenced.

3. Their Child Has Special Learning Needs

Often the public school system will fall short when it comes to meeting the needs of those children who have a learning disability. It can often be years and years before a school will acknowledge that there is a problem that needs attention, and these can be years that your child is falling farther behind. For this reason, many parents start homeschooling in an effort to meet their child's special learning or emotional needs.

4. To Promote One on One Learning

Each year as the school's budgets are cut, they decrease the number of teachers that they hire, and the number of students per classroom increase. This does not provide children with any chance for one on one learning, and often helps a child who is already behind fall even further back. Parents often begin to home school children as a result of overcrowded schools.

5. They Wish to Teach Religion

Religion has been terminated from the schools today, yet many parents still want their children to be taught religion as a fundamental part of their schooling. This is another reason why parents make the switch. They want to control what their child does and does not learn, and they want religion to be part of their everyday education.

The five reasons above are just a few of the basic driving forces between parents deciding to start homeschooling today. There can be other legitimate reasons, but the basic driving force is that parents want more for their children than the public schools have to offer.
