What I Did To Start A Home Based Catering Business

Listen Up!

Even though I have had experience with how to start a home based catering business, she still wont listen to some of my hints and pointers. I guess she just won't admit that she wants my help on this.

I decided if she didn't want my help directly, then I would try and help her indirectly. I searched endlessly looking for an online program that could teach her how to properly do things. I finally found one called StartingACateringBusiness.com and I emailed the link to her.

StartingACateringBusiness.com taught my wife things that she wouldn't hear from me like:

  • What is required to start the business

  • Determining what to charge

  • Attracting clients

  • Billing and accounting

  • Managing your cash flow

  • Record keeping

  • Keeping your clients happy

  • Growing your business

  • Today, my wife's business is thriving and even though she wont admit it, it's all thanks to StartingACateringBusiness.com and the program. I don't think she'll ever change sometimes....oh well...I still love her :)

Start a Home Based Catering Business

Has it always been a dream of yours to quit that job at the grocery store bakery and start a home based catering business? I'm sure there were some people who told you it couldn't be done. Some people might have told you that you'd fall on your face and be embarrassed. Well, those people obviously don't know the first thing about how to start a home based catering business. It is actually quite easy if you have the time and the know-how.

The first thing that you need to find out about when starting a home based catering business is whether they are even legal in your state or not. Some states have frowned upon people starting businesses in their own kitchens so much so that they have banned them entirely. You won't be able to pass any health inspection or get a license if it's not legal in your state. Make sure that you double check this, triple check it if you have to. You don't want to invest thousands of dollars into a business that you later find out you can't even have open legally.

Hopefully, if you do start a home based catering business that means you should have some experience in the catering industry. If this is not the case, you may want to bring someone in who does. Bring in a friend or family member, not to work for you but just to give you advice as an independent contractor or something. If you do have experience in the industry, then use everything you know to make the business succeed. Do what you know best, and don't let others tell you how it's done.

Next, since you did start a home based catering business that means that you are going to have clients coming in and out of your home all the time. You're not always going to be able to meet them at their place, so make sure that your home is always nice and neat. You never know when a client might drop in to change an order or something. Do you want them to walk in and see dirty clothes laying everywhere and a wet dog napping on the rug? Of course not! Please don't underestimate this issue, a CLEAN and TIDY home can be the key to a clients business.
