How To Start Learning To Play Guitar

Welcome to our lens on starting to play guitar! Hopefully our pages will help you on your way to becoming a much better musician an getting as much fun and enjoyment out of your music as we have done for so long!

Whether you're into playing extreme metal, indie rock, pop punk or the blues, there are some easy steps that you can take to get yourself started with learning to play guitar.

Don't worry, while your favourite guitar heroes may make it look like you'll never be able to play the amazing licks that they do, they all had to start from the same place as you- picking up a guitar and picking out a few sounds, then picking out a few more and starting to make a tune.

You can do the same, and get yourself playing in no time at all.

The first steps in learning to play guitar

There are some very easy steps you can take in order to get started.

Once you have the guitar that feels right for your playing needs, you can start to pick up a few of the basics. The first things you'll benefit from learning is the basic chords and scale.

Don't try to jump straight into playing as fast as possible!" the basics will provide a strong foundation for all of that a little later. It is these basics that will ensure you become a much stronger player later on.

Make sure you don't try and skip over learning each chord and simple chord progression. Skipping ahead to a harder level will ultimately stunt your growth as a player. A little patience goes a long way.

You will need to get your hands used to strumming, picking notes and fretting notes. This can cause some discomfort top start out with, but that discomfort will fade soon enough as your fingers become accustomed to playing.

The fingertips on your fretting hand will become resistant to the rigours of holding notes before long. The discomfort is natural and will pass quickly.

A good way to help yourself progress as a guitar player is to make sure you don't limit yourself to just one style. Try some blues, try some neoclassical metal, try some indie.

See what these other genres have to offer that you can use in your own playing. The important thing is to make sure you develop your own style. Sure, have heroes, but learn from them, don't emulate them.

Be your own guitarist and soon you'll discover just how good you can be!
