Defining the Sides: Star Trek Vs. Star Wars

Star Trek Vs. Star Wars

Science Fiction fans can generally be classified into two camps - 'Star Wars' and 'Star Trek'.

'Trekkies' are often fans of using great restraint when possible and overwhelming in nature. Most of the aliens they meet look vaguely like humans* who had a bad experience with a wax factory.

Fans of Star Wars are gluttons for sci-fi punishment. They either love being the all-powerful evil being or the scrappy underdog. Trekkies are rarely underdogs. Star Wars aliens seem to have either scales or fur and are also roughly humanoid in nature*.

*Roughly human shapes for aliens are necessary or else conventions would be very boring.

Star Trek

badmsm says:

Love 'em both, but Star Trek was the first and the best. No it didn't have all the special effects, but it was still very creative, and touched on a lot of themes.

inkserotica says:

I don't like either! BUT, if I had to go with one it would have to be Star Trek simply because Star Wars creeps and annoys the hell out of me! All those weirdy creatures...(and no, they're not the same as Star Trek aliens, not to me anyway!)

WritingforYourWealth says:

I've seen the original Star Wars trilogy more times than I can count, but at the end of the day, Trek has Mr. Spock. ;)

"I am endeavoring, ma'am, to construct a mnemonic circuit using stone knives and bearskins."

defylucas says:

I am a fan of both, but prefer Star Trek. By the way, http://www.stardestroyer.net/Empire/ is a bunch of bollocks. Star Trek is far superior tech wise, though I didn't go and spew as much technobabble as that site did. If the Empire is so great, then how did they defeated by a rag-tag group (Rebels) plus a bunch of furry oompa-loompas? (Ewoks) If that's all it took, imagine what even the TOS Federation could do!

bimplebean says:

It seems like all the Star Wars entries here are written by children, with a definite "neener neener" vibe, whereas the Trek entries have an element of reason.

I prefer Trek because it's core postulate is that ordinary people can do extraordinary things through virtue of hard work, learning and moral behavior. In Star Wars you need to be a Princess, Knight or Emperor to make a difference, and even then only by virtue of the 'Force,' a form of magic given to you by virtue of genetics alone. No thanks.

Anonymous person says:

read this website and tell me that star trek beats star wars.

Lt Malch : 1/2 Trill 1/2 Cat says:

Hey, it's me again. I just wanted to have another moan, so here we go:

Star Wars is absolutely lame. It's awful. Have you actually taken a step back and looked at it? Actually looked at it? It portrays humans as being perfect and that everything is just lardy-da.

But if you look at Star Trek, it teaches Morals. There is no shame in retreating, no shame in falling before a superior enemy and the teachings of Sun Tzu are prevelant. It shows that humans aren't perfect and it warns us of what is gonna happen (Post Atomic Horror) and that we should accpet our mistakes and learn from them.

So yeah, that's my moan for the day, BOLO ! ! !

"A" , "Q's" boss says:

it's easy, star trek is believable and could happen, star wars is too farfetched and unbelievable...

Jock says:

Lt Malch : 1/2 Trill 1/2 Cat says:

Star trek pwns Star Wars 'cause we have loads of great stuff like Q, Phasers, (a personal favourite) f
photon Torpedoes the list is endless. . .

Don't forget the races that can eliminate you just like that!Borg, Q continuum, Klingons, 8472 ect.

honestly, "Use the force?" How cheesy is that! "Engage!" Thats more like it! One word to convey the strength of the Captains!

So yeah, STAR TREK takes the cake for me easily

dc64 says:

Star Trek definately. It's hopeful and logical. Star Wars is great for action and special effects, but if I woke up one day and HAD to choose which future I would live in...it would be Star Trek hands down!

Mar1anneC says:

Star Trek is the more intelligent choice.

Caboose32 says:

Star trek vs. star wars, to me star trek is a sophisticated long and unending universe, the entire star trek saga, along with technology and those wonderful time travel episopes spans nearly 8 centuries from WWIII, to the dominion wars to the temporal cold war, the entire history of a galaxy, compared to a the rise and fall of the empire...enough said

Sunfish says:

Star Trek absolutely. I've seen all series though remain partial to the original. Star Wars is fun and has great special effect, but it's still a kids' show. Star Trek is more intellectually oriented, with some great social issues presented under the disguise of science fiction and "alien" worlds.

BonesRodriguez says:

Star Wars is Fantasy, Star Trek is Drama.

Trek has SO muc more canon also- Wars is just craziness. Love 'em both, but Trek definitely

austin and zack says:

this show is the worst show in the universe.

GreenRevolution says:

This is a tough one. They are both amazing and deserve to be winners. However, if had to choose one it would be Star Trek. I have been following it since High School starting with the original, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and finally Enterprise. Too bad the last one didn't last as long as the others. Hopefully, they will come out with the next series soon! Cheers!!

Matthew says:

Star wars has 2 gay robots c3po and r2d2. On one episode of the Simpsons it the the gay robots of star wars c3po and r2d2 VS the Cylons from Battlestar Galactica. c3po went o help me r2 in that gay sounding way.

Ross says:

I like both. I also like both, chocolate and vanilla. Guess which I prefer.
Star Wars is good. Star Trek is amazing.
For those who want to argue about 200000000000 GW weapons for SW then ask yourself this: Star Trek came first, thus Wars made bigger figures to sound cool! Heh!

Joe says:

While I do like both, I've liked star trek since I was 3 years old. Also, if the entire star trek universe united against the entire star wars universe united, star trek would win. the borg, 8472, the federation. star wars doesn't stand a chance! Especially with... the Q continuum!

Star Wars

darthdonald says:

When I was 7 years old, I saw Star Wars for the first time. Vader scared the @#$! out of me. No Star Trek villian has ever done that.

Besides in Star Trek, they use lasers/phasers or whatever. Those items are in every sci-fi show, but noone has lightsabers, (unless they are copy cats)

Although I like both, Star Wars wins...hands down.

Number1Athlete says:

pshh...Starwars, no competition :P

steven says:

For the Awesome space battles.

Spia says:

Most people love Star Wars (or at least like it).

Only trekies love Star Trek. Not exactly the most fashionable people in the world are they.

Also, Star Trek is BORING!

Also, a race on another planet (Vulcans) are almost exactly the same (looking) as people. Except they have pointy ears.

Klingons look like someone was bored when working on modeling clay.

YODA!

MACE WINDU!

Awesome Guy says:

Startrek is clean, solve the mystery.

Starwars is dirty/gritty/real and is an adventure.

Dude says:

Jar Jar - seriously. Even he's better than the super clean characters from Star Trek.

Spock and Kirk aside.

Light-sabres vs Phasers. I know which one I'd like to be seen with (not the remote control with buttons and flashy lights stuck onto it by the prop department).

LOL

Jimmy C says:

Star Wars EVERY TIME!!!

they stopped making future star trek to try an create a realistic 'prequel' with that guy who kept disappearing in quantam leap, and yet, every major plot and story line from the next gen+ series managed to make it into the prequel, funny that during how many episodes of start trek original there is not a single mention of the borg? and I remember seeing them in the prequel.

But right from the out set when making the episode I - III there has been a rigid sticking to the evolution of the star wars galaxy, if you look at the uniforms from ep 2 & 3 they flow directly to the style of uniforms in episode 4, the first three havnt taken the theme from ep 4 and worked forwards, they took the them and worked backwards to show how the storm troopers have evolved from the clone troopers, (look at an Ep 2 Clone trooper with the big pointy head thern look at an Ep 3 Clone trooper, more like but not quite a stromtrooper yet.) the worlds are full of nasty b*****ds who would kill you in a second, look at Star Trek, all their baddies are pantomime villains, who might as well where a top hat black cloak and a veeery thin moustache that curls at the edges!

In the face of it Star Wars wins hands down every time you compare, try top trumps with them both I know I'd rather be a jedi looking cools as you like without one of them daft bloody uniforms they have to wear, its funny how all the baddies look just like a human with bad make up on in S.T. whereas at least with S.W. they create some unique looking characters.

And I REALLY want to know this, what happened to the klingons? one minute there look like vulcans next thing you know it looks like some one smashed a pie on their heads why?

Mrwilliams1990 says:

Star Wars technology is superior,no doubts whatsoever

Alex says:

you trekkies have a limited and idiotic view of star wars. if you look at technology, star wars wins hands down every time. lightsabers and blasters beat out phasers and...phasers any day. one star destroyer would annihilate the enterprise. plus there's the death star.

as far as amount of material to enjoy, star wars wins there too. hundreds of books, video games, comics, etc detail over 25,000 years of galactic history.

and star wars is full of ordinary people accomplishing extraordinary things. how bout that han solo, eh? he can't use the force, and look what he's done.

speaking of the force, what does star trek have in comparison? i seem to be drawing a blank. mythical energy fields connecting all life in the galaxy beats out anything star trek has. why are we even arguing this?

it's like arguing over whether the united states is better than bosnia. the u.s. wins every time.

Squidoophile says:

I prefer star wars!
They are more amusing and they have kind of action and evil which star trek lacks, star trek visualizes a good and utopian future, this is boring!!

igniz says:

both are great.. but choosing between this two... i'll go for Star Wars i love the Saga. :)

JustAls says:

Star Wars all the way!!!! Good vs. Evil... <3 George Lucas

CCGAL says:

What can I say? I saw Star Wars 9 times when it debuted in my area in September of 1978. Why do I know the month and the year? I went into labor with my first child and paced the aisle because I didn't want to leave before the movie ended. I drove 2 hrs south to catch it one last time. I bought the Moog version of the music on an LP. One of my friends was the body double for C-3PO when they filmed portions in the redwoods of Del Norte County. Hands down, my favorite, but I must admit I am also a closet Trekkie, but you didn't hear ME admmit that.

Stephanie Lauder says:

Star Wars is folklore; an evolving story set in the past, and mythic in nature. It's a story told around a campfire by the tribal elders. Star Trek wants to be the utopian future. A fable analogous to our own societal struggles in the macrocosm of space, though the subtext should be: "we didn't make it, pop-fizzle".

blackmanbegins91 says:

The very first Star Wars 1977 was good for me. I even got to work on it.

joe says:

star wars would own star trek because the star wars has jedi, sith and an infinate amount of ships and troops

Stian says:

Star trek is noway near what Starwars is. Its to totally different stories, and starwars is movies, trek is series...

starwars ftw.
