Defining the Sides: Star Trek Vs. Star Wars

Star Trek Vs. Star Wars

Science Fiction fans can generally be classified into two camps - 'Star Wars' and 'Star Trek'.

'Trekkies' are often fans of using great restraint when possible and overwhelming in nature. Most of the aliens they meet look vaguely like humans* who had a bad experience with a wax factory.

Fans of Star Wars are gluttons for sci-fi punishment. They either love being the all-powerful evil being or the scrappy underdog. Trekkies are rarely underdogs. Star Wars aliens seem to have either scales or fur and are also roughly humanoid in nature*.

*Roughly human shapes for aliens are necessary or else conventions would be very boring.

Action Figures - Good for Star Trek? or Creepy old Men?

I seem to run across a lot more Star Trek Action Figures than Star Wars action figures, weirdly enough. I guess the question is, are action figures of middle aged men in one piece suits a vote for or against Star Trek? I'm honestly not sure...

Liamo14 says:

Check out this list I made:1: the empire has the death star, but the cardassians made the star imploder, which is, obviously capable of destroying entire star systems.
2: look, i dont care how big a star wars fleet is, if you've ever seen any part of the dominion war, its a no brainer.
3: its obvious that hyperdrive goes at light speed. In star trek, thats warp 1. now, most star trek ships can go about warp 9.2 to 9.7, tops. that is at least 1649 times faster than the millenium falcon, supposedly really fast in star wars.
4: species 8472. if you haven't seen the voyager episode "scorpion", watch it, and you'll see what power they have over any star wars ship.
5: do you really think that 1 man fighters stand any chance against a ship like enterprise? or any star trek ship? that makes most star wars ships USELESS in combat.
6: this last one is better than anything, it makes the whole battle trivial and predecided. 2 words... The Q! one snap of their fingers, one little thought and BOOM! all the star wars ships are gone, vanished, erased from existance. not even the precious force wouldn't stand a chance against the mighty power of the Q! I'm still working on the rest AND YES THERE'S A LOT MORE! trek on, fellow geeks!

sam says:

star trek is way better!! it was the first and best! And, how many tv series has star wars done?

Darth says:

Star wars all the way. =)

Kakashi2003 says:

I like both but Star Trek is a little bit better. Star Trek wins because it is much bigger! 6 Movies (and 3 of them are garbage) vs 12 ? movies and 6 ? series.

Ryan says:

The movies released in the past few years tells the tale of the tape. Star Trek blows Star Wars out of the water in balancing engaging characters, humor, visual/digital effects, and action. Recent Star Wars gluts on effects and action and has no strong story to hold it all together.

khurt says:

I get goosebumps whenever I hear the theme music for Star Trek.

Assunta says:

If you must judge a show/movie by its fans...all you need to do is look at all these comments. The Star Trek comments are refined, cultured, mostly in good taste. The Star Wars comments contain profanities, shallow, or just plain one liners. I rest my case!

Assunta says:

Star Wars is more of an action-adventure thing set in space. While Star Trek is truly sci-fi. Star Trek actually gets your neurons firing and working hard because of the complicated issues they often explore on the show. Star Wars is mostly just for fun, a wild ride, but offers little intellectual stimulus.
Overall, I have to choose Star Trek. It can also offer a fun show, with a wild ride, and still have intellectual stimulus. Sometimes you will be thinking for days about one issue or other they explored on the show.

Radio says:

Star Trek, no question. Star Wars doesn't qualify as science-fiction because there is no SCIENCE involved. Whereas star trek does. So it's really down to whether you want Fantasy or Sci-Fi.

geek-girl says:

I definetly like Star Wars, nothing wrong with it. But more for just a good night with popcorn and coke, when I feel like watching any cool action movie. Star Trek runs so much deeper; there's far more technology in it, more science, more character-development, (and therefore better real-life characters, no cliché's) more emotions and more psychology.
For every alien shown has a reference, a background. Aliens are not just put around because they look cool, like "hey, we have a bar-scéne here... let's put some fluffy creatures here for background decoration". And the amount of fluffy aliens in Star Wars is way too much! I get so much a Jim Henson-allergie when I watch too much Star Wars at once... especially episode VI, Return of the Jedi... the last 45 minutes, skip, please, skip! On the other hand, I absolutely love Yoda, especially in the original episodes. He's cool, funny, charismatic, adorable and wise. But that Han Solo, throw him out of the first air lock, I've never seen a more arrogant, irritating, self-loving macho, iiiiiiehw. (Yes, I'm a girl. And if I we're prinses Leia I would've slapped him in the face)
So... Star Wars is more for the action, the fighting, the cool-looking characters (love Vaders cape), the cute fluffy aliens and isolated, hot burning or freezing cold planets.
Star Trek is more for the science, technology, good storylines, emotions, exotic beautiful paradise-like planets (count me in for a trip to Risa) and, well, let's face it... better equiped starships. Laserbeams vs Photon Torpedo's... need I say more?

GUENTHER says:

STAR TREK IS BETTER FOR ANYONE WHO DISLIKES THE IDEA OF MAKING WAR FOR ANY REASON SOMEONE DISLIKES!!

cliff1974 says:

Star Trek is for the brainy and logical kind of people. Star Wars is for the people who turn off their brain to watch! lol

GreenRednecks says:

Are you kidding? It's no contest. James Kirk could whip Luke Skywalker any day of the week. Star Wars was okay when it first came out. The new Star Trek movie breathes new life into Star Trek.

shopbestdirect says:

Tough call but I'll go with Star Trek. Although, I just saw a knock off of Star Wars on Family Guy. That was awesome!

Timothy Michael McHugh says:

I LOVE Star Trek, it is cooler than cool, it is ICE COLD! I LOATHE Star Wars because some Star Wars Goons say that the Federation that I cherish and revere as heroes if "fascist"! X-Wings suck, especially their design, and the Motion Pictures Enterprise rocks!

markacesmith says:

Star Trek is Star Wars on speed. Glad there's a new movie out.

Astroleo says:

Star Trek, for sure. It just seems more possible. Sure the aliens are a little unimaginative in that they are based on human shapes, but they were kind of limited back in the day, and rather than tech-ing it up like Star Wars did and alienating fans, they stuck with a formula that works.

Star Wars is a fantasy, complete with princess that needs rescuing. Its a romantic fairy tale set in space.

Trekkie4life says:

Star Trek is by far better than Star Wars and has been around a hell of a lot longer. Yeah Star Wars has some pretty cool aliens... but I think Star Trek has a ton of cool storylines to compensate for that. (We have cool aliens too! Cardassians are awesome!)

Home-Interior-Designer says:

It has to be Star Trek by far. Star Trek: The Next Generation especially.

DXH says:

A New Hope & Empire had alot going but Return = Epic Fail, The prequels were just shit so..
Star Trek Wins!

star trek is better says:

Star Trek is way better. All you star wars fans dont know what your talking about.

ClimateChanger says:

Star Trek rocks, and the new movie has boosted it to a whole new level.

dragon slayer101 says:

star treck is the best in the world so beet it

xjaxler says:

Even though I like both franchises, I say Star Trek is winning the war as of now with its new succesful movie, compared to the failure that was Star Wars:Clone Wars movie and show (not minisodes however).

Dark Helmet says:

the only thing good thing that came from Star Wars is Spaceballs.

TheLifeDoctor says:

Star Trek has just been so iconic and is progressing with the new reboot. There have been some amazing episodes throughout its history.
Star Wars was great once but has become almost Disneyfied with too many weird and annoying characters.

Natalie in South Africa says:

Star Trek is way more interesting, intelligent and filled with
far more attractive people.

noodlepusher says:

Star trek! i once saw the star wars movie in theaters and had to walk out because it was so awful

In-Correct says:

I think that Star Wars is more like a fantasy. A Fairy Tale. I know that there are certain episodes and certain movies of Star Trek that aren't as good as others, but overall Star Trek is better. It is also very educational. I learned more on Star Trek then I did at School. Star Trek tries to sneak in as much education as possible especially with Beverly, Picard, Seven, and Data. And now that I mention Data...I strongly dislike the decision to kill off Data.

xiaoma says:

I don't dislike Star Wars, but I like Star Trek more. Instead of relying on super-human heroes to solve everything, Star Trek is about societal advancement and the ability of normal people to do much much better than we currently are.

german non-trekkie says:

difficult comparing a franchise mainly consisting of tv-shows with another franchise mainly consisting of 6 movies.

There is very bad star trek but there are imho at least 3 very good films and at least one very good tv show (DS9) plus a couple of excellent episodes. When it comes to Star Wars I like one film (empire strikes back), at least two films are ridiculous and the rest is 'mas o menos'.

ArgyleEpiphany says:

star trek. duh.

Tigran says:

UGH this is so hard to choose. There is the side of me that has the Sith but then I have always wanted to be part of Red Squad. Crap
Im with Red Squad Cadets

sorry Star wars comrades. If they had an in between I would have chosen that.
May the Force Be With You

Nochipra says:

I'm a trekkie all the way:)

Sarunas says:

Star Trek :P

Voyager74656 says:

Ferd, you haven't even followed the series,
so you can't know.

Voyager74656 says:

How can you ever know if it's a fact?
Have you ever actually followed the
series? I suppose not.
This is the second time I am following
Voyager, and it's definately not only a
journey to Earth, located solely on
the USS Voyager!

Voyager74656 says:

It seems that you don't know a lot
about Star Trek. It's Voyager's
main goal, but the series is a hell
of a lot more!

Voyager74656 says:

That's an opinion, now
facts, please.

Voyager74656 says:

Mengepoes, you're right.
Q would turn the Death Star
into a shiskebab!

Voyager74656 says:

I choose for Star Trek,
especially Voyager, because
there happens a lot in it,
and it's about humans, too.

Trekie01 says:

Live Long and Prosper !!!!!

Tiddledeewinks says:

Star Trek (the OLD one not the Next Generation).

David Bandel says:

Star Trek is the thinking man's Star Wars. Star Wars is more about drama/action/drawing-in-mass-audience. Star Trek has always been perceived as a nerdy vice due to it's intellectual nature. It's a thinking man's franchise. Star Wars is more like the football fan's franchise. For the low-IQ wannabe-nerdy types.

xriotdotbiz says:

Star Wars is very important to me, but Star Trek has had a vision for much longer and been able to do more with its "universe". Star Wars revolves around a single character - Anakin/Vader. Although Star Trek started with Captain Kirk, it has spread beyond the classic Trek and opened whole other possibilities. If nothing else, it spawned Klingon the fastest growing language. Can Star Wars touch that?

RagingR2 says:

Although I very much like Star Wars, I choose Star Trek for the sheer volume of video material... it's an almost endless source of inspiration and entertainmen. Still, I like the fantasy and epic story of Star Wars; frankly I think when it comes to the characters, Star Wars is a bit more believable because with Star Trek, all the bad guys are pretty damn one dimensional. But 6 movies just isn't enough. I want more!!!!!!!

pjmpjmp says:

IF IT WAS NOT FOR STAR TREK THERE WOULD NOT BE ANY STAR WARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THE HONDA DOCTOR

Veronica says:

When I was younger I might have said Star Wars, but now without a doubt, Star Trek is much better.
I find it to be more intelligent.

captain janeway says:

startreks better than starwars

Denise says:

My boyfriend and his son much prefer Star Wars. My daughter and I are huge Star Trek fans. They are very action oriented people, we are more sedentary and introspective. I think it has less to do with which is the better Sci-Fi vehicle and more to do with the personality of the person and how that influences their choice.

captain janeway says:

the uss.reliant & uss.enterprise and all the fedration ships fired even the new enterprise. startrek is way better. startrek, startrek the next genration, startrek deep space nine, startrek voyager, startrek enterprise!

logan says:

startrek beats starwars go on warp mr.sulu and FIRE! starwars EXPLODES!

USS Voyager says:

Star Trek is better! Especially Voyager!!!

Picard1701d says:

I love Star Trek, but i also like star wars. the storylines keep changing so it's always exciting

Bob says:

Star Trek is great

Data says:

Star trek because lasers are pathetic old fashioned out dated weapons in Star Trek the Death Star could barely scratch the Shields of the NCC 1701 A

Janeway says:

http://www.stardestroyer.net/Empire/ is all stupidity. The facts are right towards the canon, but most of the Star Wars canon is impossible. Besides even going by that fact, all the star trek people have to do is beam the command crew off the bridge of an enemy ship, drop a few borg aboard, and that's it for that ship. Star wars would fail completely. So in an actual war, Star Wars might have the numbers and the power (so they say) but Star Trek has the brain. Besides, in that website's theoretical situation, a Wormhole has opened. The Federation know very well how to close a wormhole, and with that, problem solved.
Star Trek is for the mind, Star Wars is for the mindless.

Robin_Forlonge_Patterson says:

On Wikia.com you can run with the hare and hunt with the hounds. (You can decide which is which!) The 14 biggest Wikia sites include two for each side, with 140,000 articles in total. http://www.wikia.com/wiki/Big_wikis

hans says:

i say anders is a retard because star trek has species 8472 for those who havent watched watched the voyager episode "scorpion" their bio ships can destroy a planet with a single volley of their weapons

vesko says:

Oh, and, Squidoophile, about that good and utopian future thing, have you ever seen star trek? You got the BORG, ROMULANS, SPECIES 8472, and ocassionally KLINGONS. you only got the empire. HA!

vesko says:

STAR WARS is for idiots. Sure the lightsabers are cool for a while, but in the end everyone would just end up killing themselves. And all that force junk? PLEASE. you wouldn't last a minute on the Enterprise.

vesko says:

Oh, and, Anders, yes star trek DOES have something that can destroy planets. its called the doomsday machine, or, more ironically, the PLANET KILLER. it doesn't technically, blow up planets, but it just sucks up all life off it.

vesko says:

I love star trek, especially the next generation. Star Wars is cool too, but its just a few movies. Star trek is about a dozen movies and COUNTLESS tv shows.

Duane says:

I love both, but Star Wars is more of an epic space opera, while Star Trek is a wonderful commentary of the human condition, and one of the few Sci Fi settings that portray a positive future.

eclecticeducation says:

I really don't know, I'm kinda leaning toward Star Trek (TNG, DS9, Voyager & Enterprise), but I love both franchises.

mistyblue75605 says:

I LOVE STAR TREK THE NEXT GENERATION. AS FAR AS THE REST OF IT IS CONCERNED....NO. JUST A BUNCH OF OLD SHOWS AND MOVIES

Nina says:

Star Trek TOS because of the writers. All science fiction gods. Lucas, although he started off well with THX 1138, quickly showed us that he's no author. For real science fiction value Star Trek. For continuity and universe development Star Wars. Imagine if the two would meld!!!

maggz says:

im a fan of both but i have to say handds down im a trekkie

JIM OF BORG says:

WE ARE THE BORG LOWER YOUR SHIELDS AND SURRENDER YOU PRIMITIVE LASER TECHNOLOGY WE WILL ADD YOUR BIOLOGICAL AND TECHNOLOGICAL DISTINCTIVENESS TO OUR OWN RESISTANCE IS FUTILE

Geutenberger says:

star wars is for fags and is a cheap plagiarism of star trek! TREK 4EVA!

AdmiralNayru says:

Star Trek forever!

regaurdless of JJ Abrams "soon to fail" Star Trek Movie in the worls, i stick by Trek and have for years.
i am a Star Trek Legacy modder, Star Trek Bridge Commander modder, and all around Computer Geek who just loves the Star Trek Franchise.

now, in Bridge Commander, there are some Star Wars ships that i have downloaded, and to answer any questions, the Star Wars ships are stronger to a certain point. the Impyreal Star Destroyer can easily destroy a Galaxy class starship within a few minutes. but the new Century class can and will hold its own in battle against a Star Destroyer. but any other Federation, Klingon, Romulan, even the Dominion ships from the 24th century and earlier, can easily be defeated.

but, a Battlestar type ship can easily dominate ANY sci fi Genre ship. why that is, i dont know.

but i will always stick by trek and for what it stands for

Tony says:

trek!

sundown says:

from a teck standpoint. weapons, star wars.
tactics, starfleet
the empire would give starfleet a very bloody nose at first.
but starfleet. never discount section 31, who produced the defiant in a very short year. would overcome the gap. also if you read the books the writers in my opinion have been dealing with this issue.

character wise. well lets talk q. or data. or any of the captains, kirk or janeway. while star wars characters are cool. they are predictable, except for the irrepressable han solo. im looking for unique. not just a bunch of regular archtypes.

in a confrontation well, the empire has superior firepower [with the exception of transphasic torpedoes]. but the federation has experience in dealing with technologically superior opponents. so it would buy the
m enough time to get they latest class of ship into the fray.

the nova class
zero point energy for power
quantum slipstream for propusion
upgraded shield tech
sheild disruption tech [from the breen]
the list goes on and on.

look i know their is alot wrong with trek.
but when they get it right.......well man they get it right.
you be thinking about alot of things afterward.
about you and the world
and how to make it better.

thanks for the read.

Star Wars Stinks! :) says:

You people who like star wars are cruel!! it's older and a lot mkore interesting. Hah!!!

Acrosurge says:

While both universes present a depth of continuity and history, I prefer the character development and sophisticated sci-fi stories of Star Trek. Star Wars is good fun when I'm in the mood for a popcorn, action fantasy.

JACOB MURRAY says:

STAR TREK RULES STAR WARS IS JUST PLAIN EMBARASING

StarWarsSucks says:

Please Star Wars is the most boring piece of crap i have ever seen, and i am not a treeki, please all the crap George Lucas has done is only for money,he is a sell-out, thast way all his movies suck, Star Wars history is so dumb, weak, and repetitive, who hasent done a story were thre is and evil empire defeated by a gay-ass rebellion, the humour is gay, the cast locks that was choseen from the worst and most economical actors that the academy could give, and havent you seen all those shitty and gay-ass products that lucashit sells, please Star trek all the way, at least they have a deeper universe, and is the closest thing that humas are goint to become, in star wars you have all these horrible aliens that seen that were draw by amateurs, and finally Star Wars copy Star Trek

Cabanalolita says:

Trekkie for sure!

Trekkiemelissa says:

Knowing that I am a trekkie, I am star trek all the way.

jaye3000 says:

LOL! I didn't know this could be a debate. Star Wars is clearly the best!

seegreen says:

While the force is always with me, I will always head to the 'third star to the right and straight on ?til morning.'

namehere says:

trek every time

Sandy says:

Star Trek RULES! It's a TREK - it cannot be stopped!

Josh_Schroeder says:

I've always preferred Star Trek. I don't hate Star Wars by any means, but Trek is my choice.

ltm98441 says:

Star Trek is my choice. How can you not vote for Captain Kirk aka the Space Stud. The original TV series mirrored the time in which it was aired! War, Racism, Biological tampering and Religion were all commented on pure genius!

Oosquid says:

It has to be trek for me 'cause . . .

. . . I've never seen one star wars movie!

starwaris4pussies says:

star wars is for pussies. light sabres ?? wtf. and all that nonsense about the force. i guess u pussies do need the force. ha.

thomas okami says:

i like both of them, but there is no way star wars can beat Satr Trek. in may wen the new Star Trek movie comes out youl see.

mr. sticky says:

star wars is gay. guys in cloaks deflecting laser beams with a light stick, while mumbling in momotone. jedi's make shatner look like a good actor!

EmperorZippy says:

Captain Kirk is the man. He smokes cigars and drinks hard liquor after winning court cases.

prowl26 says:

This is a hard one as I love both universes. Star Trek is what I would hope the world could become, more or less uniting all peoples across the world in peace and prosperity.

Star Wars on the other hand is more like real life, albeit with light sabers and laser guns and Carrie Fischer

Steve-SEO-UK says:

Live long and prosper

esmartwave says:

The two are based on compeltely different philosophies. Star Wars from a movie perspective was much more enjoyable, but Star Trek (newer) addressed current social concerns and issues and addressed them with a different philosophy and technology. Star Wars is awesome, but Star Trek is where humanity could go.

Jimmie says:

Star Trek is more thought provoking.
Make it so...

nightbear says:

Hands down Star Trek, from the original fantastic Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock to the fabulous Captain Janeway of Voyager. Star Trek forever!

Sunfish says:

No contest. Star Trek absolutely. Can't wait to see this new one coming out with Sylar taking up the Spock character.

GreenRevolution says:

Love them both, but Star Trek rules! Especially when comparing to the latest Star Wars Trilogy, which is not as good as the original. Cool lens and congrats on making LOTD!
Live long and prosper.

Mybissnes says:

im happy to see , and the science is coming to reality

naturegirl7 says:

I like them both, but if I have to choose I would choose the ground breaking Star Trek. I've been following Star Trek since if first came on the small screen. However, I really enjoy the hero quest Star Wars Saga, too.

joancampion says:

Star Trek wonderfully combines adventure and philosophy.

Star Wars

Darth Poverish says:

Both had great characters, but Star Wars had the force, and light sabers and the greatest bad guys ever the Sith. Darth Vader is the greatest criminal of all time. He has Lex Luthor beat, Megatron, the Borg, Cleagons you name it. Captain Kurt is the man, but is he more charismatic than Han Solo. I am not sure. But the edge has to go to Star Wars.

mivlipod says:

star Wars No doubt.
I am great collector of star wars figures lol

EStman says:

The ONLY Flaw in STAR WARS is that there are no INtelligent ENERGY BEINGS!!! And dont u dare to count those Jedi ghosts into this!
Star trek has Energy beings, but There are TOO FEW EXOTIC species overall. THere are too many HUmanoid species( AS Star trek couldnt easily think out of the box)

STar trek Everyday technology(replicators, Holodecks, teleporting) could Change STar wars universe into a more peaceful position. only few Star wars techs would help Star trek like Droids. Droids have unique feel. Like DATA but they are more DIVERSE. That would Shake up things. I Realy hope that there Would be a DRoid planet in Delta Quantrant.

Buti if i would still choose my favourite it would be still STAR WARS. Tech Changes slowly there, BUT The IDEAS, MAGIC AND ADVENTURE NEVER WOULD change at all. ITs this fact gives Road to fantasy!!!

Thoon says:

I prefer the story and technology of Star Wars more than Star Trek. I honestly could never get into ST as a kid because of how boring it was. Yes, at first that seems to support the "SW is all bells and whistles, ST has all the meat" argument, but that's not correct as what drew me into SW was the story. There was really peril for the heroes, and a good sense of morals. They were fighting oppression and annihilation, not just skipping about the galaxy and constantly running into trouble (which is how I saw Trek as a kid).

That said, I can appreciate both franchises, and I don't get upset when someone says Trek is better than Wars. It's all opinion, nothing more. What matters is that we all have a Star, be it Wars or Trek, that brings us entertainment and a good set of lessons.

dream_asylum says:

I was obsessed with the first and original Star Wars as a kid. Even skipped school to watch it again and again. Did a school paper on it and got an A+. It is still better than all the other Star Wars' movies and Star Treks!

Lord Maliko says:

I like both Star Wars and Star Trek. I like Star Wars because its an epic universe in which I would love to live. I like Star Trek because its more possible; that's us, people. Star Trek is a possible future for us. But in the end, which universe would I live in given the choice? Definitely Star Wars.

squiddie96 says:

STAR WARS ROCKS!

Darth Hurudin (aka Hunter) says:

Star Wars. Star Trek is to boring with the exception of the movie. The Star Wars novels, comics, games, movies, and both the animated series were much better in every possible way then Star Trek. Star Trek is unoriginal unlike Star Wars were they mix it up with the story line (or story lines if you've played one or both of the KOTOR games) and with their aliens. Plus, it's more in depth with the technology, character bios, fighting styles, actual fights, and just everything ion general. It's as if whoever make Star Trek did it in a half hour as if it wasn't half-assed enough

tripwire181 says:

The whole argument is star trek is a society that is working for the greater good of civilizations and is about exploration of the galaxy , while star wars is about the struggle of balance of power that comes from one infinite source. the whole view of star wars is about the balance of power and that shift really for one man "anakin Skywalker" its his story. While star trek is about the federation and more about the enterprise. Neither one is better or worse but i will say this if you put a hudred borg in with one jedi they wouldn't last i mean come on people the borg couldn't last against a regular human being let alone a jedi? oh by the way you should watch fan boys. by the way im a fan of both!

Tony says:

STAR WARS ROCKS!!! Trekkies are pussies...

the one says:

star trek is so boring nothing happens for 10 episodes then!!!! I fall asleep.

Injakazi says:

the "science" in star trek is utter bollocks, completely made up to give the pseudonerds a hard on. Star wars is loved by far more because it doesn't even attempt to pretend to know how all this futuristic stuff works; so no, it isn't sci-fi and is better for it.

RangerSG says:

Babylon 5 trumps both. But if I have to choose, Star Wars.

mayssa says:

Star Wars is the best

carol says:

Star Wars all the way!
Fuck science!

Aayla Secura says:

Can Star Trek use the Force? Force Choke? Mind Force? James T. Kirk vs Anakin Skywalker? Of course the one who wields a lightsaber and knows how to use the Force is the winner.. Ya Ha!!

James says:

Star trek is shit.

StevenDownward says:

This is a really tough choice but I think that I am a bit more on the star wars side but just bairly. They both have their up's and downs.

ArtDeboGallery says:

I can never choose. Too hard. Shouldn't have to really. They are both great in their own ways.I will pick one today, the other tomorrow how's that?

mamajors says:

Quite simple, Star Wars defined a Generation and is still considered a staple series of movies for all ages. Star Trek is a Niche; a good Niche but still a Niche. And don't forget, Star Wars popularity came without having to have a weekly TV show to help prop it up like Star Trek did.

barb20 says:

star wars RULES!

brooke says:

fuck all you star trek geeks. Everyone knows that star wars is fucking awesome!! Deal with star wars being better you wanna know why? star wars has a story line to it!!

diggyisking says:

I looove light sabers, especially darth vaders double edged light saber, that kicks ass. However, having seen startrek on the weekend, i must say i really loved it, especially the teleport option and warp speed:)Add a light saber to startrek and im sold on it:)

Brandon says:

its funny, ppl who have real lives like star wars, I mean yoda is the bomb, but those people go on with there lives
trekkies get obsessed

obi wan says:

star wars is beast! it has the good vs evil, and there books actually go along with the movies

freakyeyesart says:

I haven't seen the new Star Trek, but hey, I'm just into Star Wars way too much.

injakazi says:

lightsaber

Robert says:

no question Star Wars is way more fun Star Trek is boring all i saw Star trek was just a bunch of middle aged or old people talking in a Scrap piece of shit there isnt much action in Star Trek I almost fell asleep the first time i watched Star Trek and my sleep lasted TWO DAYs[real story]

Randomsithlord says:

Lets see the death star go against the enterprise. . .star wars is imaginative and has several fun games based on it such as star wars battlefront. Trekkies just don't know when they are beat.

Paul557 says:

Vader could beat spock any day

Shane says:

Star Wars hands down. Much more imaginative!

Grax says:

Because it provides a much more compelling drama and myth cycle than Star Trek. Star Trek's vision of a galaxy filled with creatures that look exactly like humans with various and sundry facial ridges was always a bit off-putting to me. Don't get me wrong, I like Star Trek but Star Wars just has all the right ingredients for a compelling space opera. Even the "mystical force" is a plus for me, though it puts Star Wars much more into the realm of Science Fantasy than hard Science Fiction. I mean.. who doesn't want to be a Jedi!

For those that tear down SW's for it's lack of "science" I beg them to look into more of the literature, Star Wars has some basis in potential technologies of the future just as Star Trek with it's Treknology.

In the end, the original trilogy and expanded universe novels kept my young mind churning with fantastic lightsaber duels and daring space battles in a way that Captain Jean-luc Picard never did.

p.s. All respect to Captain Jean-luc Picard though, he's a damn cool dude!

Barnaby Jones! says:

I'm going to choose Star Wars but only because of the original trilogy. Those three movies gave me so much fun. I must have watched them dozens of times when I was a kid. Enough to wear out two sets of VHS, anyway. The prequels were garbage, IMO. Even ROTS. They were all boring and had some of the stiffest and underwhelming acting I have ever had the displeasure of watching.

With that said, I still love Star Trek as well. I'm not going to get into that silly stuff like, "Jedi's haev teh force so they would beat star track!1" because it's beyond inane. Just as pure entertainment I'd say they're both amazing. The SW OT just nudges ahead by a small margin, for me. But if the Trek franchise continues the way it has with the new Abrams film, that might change in the future. That movie was full of epic win.

ryan Lindner says:

this is like comparing a squad of soldiers to an entire army. you trekkies don't realize the vastness of star wars, hundreds of millions of planets, trillions of inhabitants, superior technology, superior warriors, the force, and more than you can ever comprehend make star wars so much better.

duko3000 says:

Trekkie technology is way more outdated than Star Wars, for example, to destroy a planet , the death star needs minimal preparation, while the Klingons need to lower down an anchor, and go through a lengthy process which can easily be stopped at any time. Plus Jedi can use the force, while Kirk and others can only use basic instinct, and "time travel", which seems kind of unnecessary.

Molly says:

STAR WARS. Nothing creates the intense depth in an entirely new universe so perfectly, interweaves interesting, changing characters so flawlessly, and builds a million amazing stories within it. There is no competition. Star Wars wins.

jonhooi says:

The great evil schemes of the Emperor will never be matched by Star Trek. Star Wars, what a great story.

ILIJA says:

May The Force Be With You

Mr-Bones says:

OOOOOOOPS. It's special effects

Mr-Bones says:

Iv'e been a fan of Star Trek since the beginning. But all the story lines follow the same outline. Go somewhere, find a problem, find the source, fix it in the last 3 minutes. Thank God the specil effects improved.

Jaffer says:

Star Wars. We have Samuel L Jackson, Indiana Jones and the Joker. What now! Plus we have cooler weapons and have and the combat is WAAAYYYY better.

Lori_Lee-Ray says:

only because it's the only one of the two that could hold my attention!

Marc says:

couldnt resist voting.

Malya says:

Star Wars is for geeks who get laid!

star trek is so boring

Father Eaon says:

Blowing up entire planets filled with innocents for the hell of it while being able to choke you through the TV Set for being a random Misc. Character beats being able to move your fingers around Mr. Spock.

P.S. Spock dies of Radiation, Vader Lives through being delimbed and set on fire. Star Wars One, Star Trek Fail.

zack says:

Is better

Jedi_Exile says:

Nothing Can Be Compared With The Full Power Of The Force... So Trekkies I Find Your Lack Of Faith Disturbing...

darthlordfears says:

wars duh umm come on you know the game series pwns, get with the program, get Knights of the old republic, appreciate the pure ecstasy, and be tantalized. Plus come on Klingon vs Sith as evil power. And wookie vs klingon as coolest almost real language. You all know you wanna learn wookie!

moses says:

Star Wars. There are probably a whole lot more games based on the Star Wars movies than there are based on the TV series and movies from Star Trek. Also the Lego franchise has lots of Star Wars based sets [I haven't yet seen a Star Trek based set from Lego in the toy stores/toy depts of major department stores like Kmart, Target, etc.] I also haven't seen anything like "Lego Star Wars - The Complete Saga" based on Star Trek.

JC says:

Star Wars Obviously ... for kids ... Star Trek is more for adults ... although I have met Captain Jean Luc Picard ... but still Star Wars

Markus says:

Definitly Star Wars because it has a lot more action. Star Trek is just a boring journey through the galaxy while Star Wars always has awesome space battles, land battles and lightsaber battles.

E.Rautenbach says:

Star Wars Is a sci-fi representation of the spiritual realm.

Darth Borg says:

'Data' (bad haircut) vs R2D2 (built in rockets). enough said

StarWarsForever says:

stars wars is just a classic not even movies today cant compare too so star trek can never be used in the same sentence as star wars because as far as im concerned star trek is nothing but nerds on a spaceship that say but one word every 10 minutes to each other lol....borinng so i dont know why anybody would like something like this...especially the horrible acting cmon...bum's on the street could do better than that..

mike says:

startrek is ok but star wars is forever. Live on all u
light saber fans

ryansjo7 says:

I actually like Star Wars more, though I do watch star trek every now and then too.

svetko says:

i just can't make myself watch star trek. every time i do i see people that constantly worry and talk about something terrible that scares them and i can't figure what it is. no one ever dies and no one ever seems to suffer in any way -ever 0- but they all just WORRY all the time.. worry and talk, worry and talk, worry and talk.. i feel like slapping them in the head - shut up! nothing to worry about, just chill! no monster is coming! bah...

mengepoes says:

gino doe normaal

mengepoes says:

it is a fact! wake up

mengepoes says:

star trek is only a boring journey to the earth, star wars is on many different places, and a lot of more action!!

mengepoes says:

voyager sucks............

mengepoes says:

Martin of estonia i totally agree with you!

Treasures-By-Brenda says:

Well, I grew up with Star Trek but I think Star Wars is more exciting and has captured the hearts of the current generation.

bob says:

star wars

memo says:

Can't beat the original

mengepoes says:

I prefer star wars without any doubt because there is a lot of more action in it,

Shaggy says:

Star Wars.... Jedi Aside its not all happy fluffy good guy wins BS.. its more realistic and believable... But I like Star Trek too... seriously though If I could choose a galaxy it would be Star Wars... another alternate to a sci-fi future some or all of you may not know about is something called battletech... think of robots so big that a human could control them from inside the robots head... then throw on some lasers, missiles and balistic/gun that would make a .50 cal look like a squirt gun. look it up if your interested it was a board and a video game spawned from an entire series of books..

Martin of estonia says:

Ahem Data...
Do you really think that a NCC 1701 A could survive something like that? Nah... it rather be vaporized by the death star.
Thhe Xindi weapons testing showed that that beam was only an fraction of a true planet destroyer´s power. So if Xindi Planet destroyer is put against a Ncc 1701 A ship then the xindi would win hands down. Both Death star and Xindi superweapon are BATTLESTATIONS NOT Space cruisers!!!! And if Xindi superweapon would be against Death Star, then Xindi would be dead, as THE DEATH STAR has much more Fire power both in main laser as well in secondary weapons.
PLUS Death Star can house hundreds of starfighters, bombers and several frigates or battleships. Only an Q(omnipontent being) would be able to turn the death star into sishkebab :D.

VI66er says:

Way more firepower

sdadaad says:

star wars is asome

Prostarprofits.com says:

Star wars is better

tiago says:

Can't I choose both?!? Ok... I choose Star Trek!
tramadol

Martin of Estonia says:

I have to prefer star wars, because there are a lot more non humanoid species. In star trek there are too many human like species all over the galaxy. Just think about it. Planets are very possibly a lot more different. Even Halo universe has a lot more difference between aliens than star trek.

Skywalkerlover says:

star wars can kick star treks but any day of the week and still get the sith lords

AmandaBB says:

Star Trek is to sci-fi. To me the Star Wars universe is a lot more convincing universe to life in (as long as you leave out the Force in the way it's used there).

Tipi says:

Its gotta be Star Wars!

selfimprover1980 says:

star wars because even non nerds like it!

uNapie says:

Star Wars ftw!

Ty says:

Star wars by far has my vote! Star trek is for sensitive cry babies!!!

Paul_R_Bergquist says:

star wars! star trek is just for baby boomers hahahaha

Sanjin says:

Star Wars is the epic story of betrayal among super-powerful warriors, set in a firmly-established universe with very diverse aliens. Star Trek is a pop TV show that features plot lines focused on making humans feel good about what we might become someday. Star Wars has lightsabers and lasers. Star Trek has phasers and energy whips. Star Wars has force-weilding Jedi, Star Trek has deranged Klingon (exception of Warf. He is one of Star Trek's few redeeming factors in this debate).

Now, I like them both. I do, however, admire more a world where one can stop lasers with a stick of light, and be a total BA with the fighting. Star Trek fights are... bad, even for TV.

(I am, however, watching TNG back-to-back now... because I like Science Fiction. This was written in the spirit of debate, as well. Peace out, Trekkies and Jedi-wannabees :P)

Anders says:

understanding the equipment involved is the key, dose star trek have anything that can blow up a planet? do they have anything that can destroy a whole solar system? No they do not. While Star Wars can answer yes to both questions. while we all know of the death star I suggest those that do not know Google something called the Sun Crusher. I find it highly amusing how serious people take this subject. when the truth is THEY ARE BOTH WORKS OF FICTION. IT ISN'T REAL. get out of your parents basement get some contacts and go find your self a real woman & give your hand the night off.

danae says:

rich deep universe? how many books have been written about star trek outside of the movies? like five tops? there are star wars books popping outta the ground!!! like daisies!!

mike says:

go to hell, trekkies!

george says:

brayden says:

Trekkies have a name for a reason SO YOU KNOW NOT TO BECOME ONE! HAH

jonycage says:

Well Star Wars hands down Star Trek looks as if humans were copy pasted to other planets just so that we may have more aliens to watch!!

packratgraph says:

Star Wars hands down. But the new Star Trek movie coming out may swing the tide. But if you compare the original Star Wars Trilogy to the first 3 Star Trek movies it is not a contest.

Gord42 says:

I'll give Star Trek props for having more SCIENCE in it's FICTION, but when it comes to epic battles and - hello - LIGHTSABERS I'm gonna go with the force everytime.
I am, however, turning a blind eye to episodes 1 and 2.

emily says:

starwars is awsome!!!

DreamsFulfilled says:

I'm a die-hard Star Wars fan.

bill says:

listen up....star wars is a trillion times better than star trek. i have have been a faithful star wars fan for 15 years. star trek is for winnies

andreaberrios says:

Of course, Stars Wars!

indiefrog says:

Easy: Star Wars, and by far!! :)

FreddyBenstein says:

If I have to pick one, I've got to go with Star Wars. Several years ago I read an article about an undercover police operation that had resulted in the arrests of numerous pedophiles. The remember the police were appalled, and disturbed by the percentage of pedophiles who were also hard core trekkies. (shudder)

rydigga says:

Definitely Star Wars. I would even pick the Ewoks over any Star Trek episode

JohnRoma says:

I find star trek to be more cheesy than star wars(especially the costumes lol), its no doubt that star wars is much more entertaining. The characters are memorable, and the lightsaber fights are pure entertainment.

ThinkHero says:

Star Wars is better, though also a fan of some Star Trek (especially TNG), I find diehard Star Trek fans to be more whiny. Here is video I did with Star Wars triumphing over Star Trek. http://www.thinkhero.com/?p=459

Mr_Awesomeness says:

I say star wars is better but that's just because i was brought up with it and am more familiar with it. If i had been born in the 60's then i'd probably have a different opinion.

luckystriker says:

First of all that is a brillliant video, you are a genious
star trek is way better and there is no way that the crapy enterprise will defete the mighty star destroyer!!! boohahaha
