Get Organized! Three Reasons to Organize Your Yarn Stash - And a Nifty Tool To Help. We'll Work on the Rest Of Your Life Later.

Yikes! Have you ever gone yarn shopping, seen something you loved and brought it home only to find that you already had the same yarn - an impulse purchase from a year ago? Or have you ever thought about renting a storage unit for your furniture because you needed more room for your yarn? Is your yarn stash OUT OF CONTROL? Well here are three reasons for knowing what and how much you have and a nifty tool to help!

Top Three Reasons to Organize Your Stash

No matter how or where your yarn is currently stored you can organize it now. For years I've had my yarn stored in large plastic shoe boxes. As a "constant organizer" I would periodically dump it all out, sort through it and put it in order by similar fibers (but then different colors were together) or by similar colors (then different fibers were together) or in just one big blob of fiber and color depending on what I had been buying at the time. I also travel quite a bit and would buy yarn all over the country and constantly end up with the same yarn over and over since I'm a sucker for color and texture - and evidently the SAME color and texture! In spite of my best efforts I had yarn stashed everywhere, all mixed up, and very much OUT OF CONTROL. Why would I want to get organized and get my stash in order? I see three great reasons for having an organized stash:

1) You know what you have and where to find it! As you look at patterns or conjure up ideas for new projects you know either that you already have enough of what is needed or that you have to go shopping to buy more yarn - isn't that the point??!??

2) You stop wasting money! I mean this in the kindest sense - if you know what you have you probably won't buy the same things over and over. Not that buying yarn was ever a waste of money - more appropriately you'll be able to spend that money on NEW yarn instead of the same old yarn.

3) You can participate in stash swaps! If you know what you already have and you're buying only new yarn, you may have some older yarn that has just plain lost its appeal. You can easily round up that old yarn and cart it off to your local yarn swap and get some new yarn to replace it.

How do you organize your stash? The Knitter's and Crocheter's Stash Organizer gives you a simple method and a nifty tool for using minimal effort to get these three big benefits of keeping your yarn stash under control.
