US Geography Games
In 2006, shortly after Hurricane Katrina had hit, school children were surveyed to test their geography knowledge. According to www.msnbc.msn.com, 1/3 of respondents couldn't pinpoint Louisiana on a map and 48% were unable to locate Mississippi. I assume if you are reading this, it is because you do not want the this to be true of your kids!
We moved to the USA 7 years ago and together with my 4 kids I learned the States, their capitals, their nicknames etc. There are 2 ways of learning these facts - the boring way (take the lists and learn by rote) or the fun way (Games!). My family prefers the 'fun' way and I am sure yours will too.

The beauty about card games is that you can take them anywhere. They are ideal to take to the park, to a friend's house or even on vacation. We always take 2 or 3 of our favorites along with us when we travel.

A great way to learn about the 50 States is while you are experiencing the 50 States. Turn every road trip into a learning experience with one of these activity books or games.
Buy an atlas for each kid - and then quiz them on the state you are driving through. Award points to the one who gets the answer first - and reward them at your next stop. Ask questions like: If you take the I40 from town X northwards for 100 miles, what lake will you arrive at?

- This is great! I used to take that Sporkle test every day. Those tests are so much fun! and I still missed the capital of Texas on your quiz!
