Hey look! Here is another state to learn about!State Capital: Juneau
State Flag (as shown to the right):
The Alaska flag was adopted in 1959. It's stars represets the big dipper. The big star represents the North Star that is also called the Polaris. This flag was chosen out of a flag desining contest. The designor was 13 year old Native American named Bennie Benson in 1926. He won a 1,000-dollar scholarship and a watch for winning the contest! Boy, he and his family must be really proud!

State Flag (as shown to the right):
It was adopted on Febuary 17, 1917. It was created by Colonel Charles W. Harris ,and first sewn by Nan D. Hayden .The 13 yellow and red rays represent the origanal 13 colonies of the United States of America. The red and yellow colors were used because of the Spanish conquistadors who came to Arizona in 1540. They were their flag colors.

Time to learn about some Arkansas Symbols!State Capital: Little Rock
State Flag (as shown to the right):
The red, white and blue colors refer to the American Flag. The three stars below where it says Arkansas represent the three countries it had once belonged to. (France, Spain, and now the United States.) The two stars that are parrell and below the state's name represent the two twin states - Arkansas and Michigan, they were both accepted to the United States at about the same time. Arkansas June 15, 1836 and Michigan on January 26, 1837. The one star above the state's name represents Arkansas' membership in the Confederate States of America.

California Symbol Time!State Capital:Sacramento
State Flag (as shown to the right):
The current California flag is based on the origanal bear flag. The Grizzly Bear on the flag represent the many Grizzly Bears in California. The star represents the lone star of Texas. The words "California Republic" refered to the American pioneers who settled in the territory.
Unfortunately, the original Bear Flag that was held by the Society of California Pioneers perished in the Great Earthquake and Fire of 1906.

Let's learn about Colorado's state symbols!State Capital: Denver
State Flag (as shown to the right):
The state flag of Colorado was designed in 1911. The golden color by the "C" on the flag represents the sunshine given to the state. The blue stands for the cloudless blue sky in Colorado. Next, the white stands for the fluffy snow on the snow capped mountians in the state of Colorado. Lastly, the red is used to show the color of most of the soil in Colorado, and of course, the "C" stands for the first letter in Colorado!

The third C is for... You guessed it! C for Connecticut
Its Connecticut time!State Capital: Hartford
State Flag (as shown to the right):
As you can see, in the middle of the flag there is a sheild. Placed in the middle of that sheild are grape vines. The state of Connecticut was passed down the grape vines from England. In the state grapes are told to be good luck and peace. This flag also holds the state motto - Qui Transtulit Sustinet. This motto means "He who transplanted continues to sustain" in Latin. There are also acorns and oak leaves. The oak tree was later made Connecticut's state tree.

Hey! The first D is for Delaware
Let's learn a little about Delaware!State Capital: Dover
State Flag (as shown to the right):
The Delaware State flag was adopted in 1913. On the flag there are two colors, buff and blue. These were the colors of the uniform George Washington wore. There is a diamond because the early nickname of this state was the Diamond State. That was their nickname because of the small state with so much great value. The farming of the state on the flag is shown as a pile of wheat and a ear of corn. The farming is honored by the farmer (on the right) holding his hoe. The ox is used to show importance of animal husbandry. The musket-toting American soldier represents the citizens who fought for the right of Delaware's population. The boat symbolizes the states ship making industery. The date on the bottom of the flag (December 7, 1787) was the date of Delaware first signing the Constitution. It became the first new state of the United States!

Like the Alabama state flag (the first flag shown on this page) Florida's flag had two red diagnal lines on a white background. On the state seal (in the middle of the flag) there is a Native American woman scattering flowers, There is also a steamboat and a cabbage palmetto tree. This is all shown in the brilliant sunshine of Florida. The state of Florida is known for its beutiful sunshine, flowers, palm trees, rivers, and lakes.

The thirteen five-point stars represnt Georgia as well as the twelve other twelve first colonies of the United States. In the middle of the circle of stars is the Georgia coat of arms. Right under the coat of arms are words that say "IN GOD WE TRUST".
