I have made this site to open up your mind about the 50 states of America! My facts and symbols about these terrific states might clear away all of the fuzz in your memory from school back then. Surfs Up, Hawaiian style!State Captial: Honolulu
State Flag:(as shown to the right):
The eight horizontal (across) lines represent the eight islands Hawaii is made up of. The British looking part of the flag stands for Hawaii's relationship with Britin. It also represents a stylized puela (this is a triangular standard laying across two crossed spears called an alia) which is the symbol of the Hawaiian ali'i.

The First I is for Idaho!
Lets learn about Idaho!State Capital:Boise
State Flag(as shown to the right):
The flag contains the Great Idaho Seal. The seal has a woman. She represents represents liberty, justice and equality. The man on the seal is a miner. The pictures on the sheild represent main industries of forestry, farming, and mining. The cornucopias (horns) stand for abundance. The elks head is there to be the symbol of wildlife. Esto perpetua (Let it be perpetual) is also contained in the seal. Under the seal on the flag there are the words : "State of Idaho". All of this happenes on a blue feild. The flag was adopted in 1907.

Where do you live?
Now, I for Illinois! (I know that looks funny. It is an uppercase I and two lowercase l's.)
Now, its Illinois time!State Capital: Springfield
State Flag(as shown to the right):
On a white feild there is "Illinois" writen and there is the Illinois sheild. The bald eagle, who holds red streamers in his beak, represents the United States. Illinois's state motto (is "State sovereignty, national union" means that Illinois governs itself under the government of the United States) is on the streamers that are in the eagle's beak. On the sheild that the eagle is supporting, there are thirteen stars and thirteen stripes. These stand for the thirteen original colonies. There are two dates on a boder the eagle is standing on. One of them is the date Illinois was admitted to the Union. The other one is the date is the date of the state seal. The soil around the bottom of the flag (more towards the state's name) stands for the rich soil in the prarie state.

Oh ya! Is Indiana time!State Capital: Indianapolis

There is a torch on a blue feild. Around the torch are thirteen outer stars and five inner stars. The torch in the center represents liberty and enlightenment. The rays cmming from the torch stand for the expansive nature of liberty and enlighhtenment. The thirteen original colonies of the United States are what the thirteen stars on the outer circle of stars represent. The five in the inner layer of stars stand for the next five states that were admitted to the Union. The big star near the top of the torch that has Indiana writen around it represents Indiana - the nineteenth state. (Here it is for you in easier words - There are thirteen stars on the outer circle, and there are five on the inside circle of stars. So, 13+5=18. The star near the top of the torch is the nineteenth star - Indiana the nineteenth state. Get it now? Well hopefully you do. If you don't than I can't help any longer because that was my easiest way of saying it!)

The Iowa state flag represents many things. As for the colors, White stands for the unwritten page of history at Iowa's beggining. The blue stands for justice, truth,a and loyaty. Last, but not least, the red color in the flag stands for courage. Next, as for the eagle, this eagle has blue streamers in his beak that hold the state motto: "Our liberties we prize, and our rights we will maintain". In red under the eagle, there is the state's name "Iowa". Mothers think that the "Iowa" is in red standing for the blood in sacrifice that the boys made for them.

Go Kansas!!State Capital:Topeka
State Flag(as shown to the right):
On a blue feild there is the Kansas state seal, the state crest, and below all of that in golden block letters is the name of the state - Kansas. The state crest is a sunflower on top of a gold and blue twisted bar. The bar on the crest represents the Louisiana Purchase, from which Kansas was carved. The sunflower is the state flower. On the crest it is "torn from its stalk". The 34 stars in the sky on the seal that is in the center on the Kansas state flag represent Kansas as the 34th state to be accepted into the Union. Above the 34 stars is Kansas's state motto - "Ad Astra per Aspera", which is Latin for "To the Stars through Difficulties." The rolling hills around Fort Riley are in the seal. The Indians hunting American Bison and the prairie schooners heading west. The oxen mirror the expanding frontier. The farmer plowing the feild by his cabin stands for the agricultural assets. The steamboat in the Kansas River delivering supplies to Manhattan and Fort Riley represents commerce within the state.
