Marketing: Traffic Equals Sales!

Ranked #7,222 in Internet, #326,371 overall

My Venture Into Online Business

Well, to be honest it took me a long time to get off the ground. Over 90% of internet marketers fail. It's understandable because most people don't have the time or money to work on something that shows little to no profit within the first few months. Also, most people don't have the drive to go to work full-time, then come home and work on internet marketing stuff for 6-8 hours.

It was a tough life, but I knew I'd never survive if I quit my job and had to go a couple months with no guaranteed income. I knew this way I could still bring home a guaranteed income, and replace my social life with internet marketing. Normally this wouldn't sound very inviting, but I had just moved 400 miles north and really didn't know anyone at the time, so my social life was going to be lacking anyway.

When I first started marketing, I bought a program that laid down the foundation for everything I now know. I didn't know what I was buying at the time, but since then I have bought quite a few (some good, some not so good) and of all of the programs I have purchased, this one is clearly suited the best to beginners. So, as it turns out, I was very fortunate in that respect.

My Online Income System is a great place to start if you are interested in becoming an internet marketer and don't know where to begin.

I'm Making Some Money as an Affiliate Marketer: What Next?

Time to Start Developing a List

So after I began pulling some money as an affiliate marketer, I started wondering, what is the next step? They say that you should develop your own product, but that seemed like such a daunting task.

So I threw caution to the wind and started drawing up the outline of how I made money online, tweaking and adding to all of the e-book and methods I have learned through all of my experiences.

While writing this book, I realized that whenever I am finished with it, it's not like a paper book. When I finish it's not going to just show up in stores such as Barnes and Noble and start flying off she shelves. I needed to make preparations for my upcoming release!

So what I did was set up a very basic squeeze page offering my potential customers free material in exchange for joining my list. I offer all of my subscribers a weekly newsletter, packed with information and free gifts. This is how you build trust with people, and let them know about your big release!

Here is my squeeze page:

Remember, there is no need to try to blow away your potential customers when they come to the squeeze page. The only goal is to get them to put their email in the box. Once they do that then you will have many, many opportunities to impress your potential customer.

Article Marketing

Generating traffic by writing articles might seem a good way of using article marketing to your advantage, but it takes just a little knowledge and a smattering of ability to do it properly. By properly, I mean by actually getting traffic through article writing and using the articles wisely.

Most people believe writing articles to be easy - and reading many of those currently accepted by article directories, I am beginning to agree with them. The standard accepted these days is very poor, and perhaps some directories should review their acceptance criteria. However, that is another subject.

You can make money by writing articles if you know how to write them properly, and know how to use them to generate traffic. Article marketing is one of the big three internet marketing promotional techniques, the others being search engine marketing and list building. It can also be argued that article marketing forms an element of both these other two, and can also be used to build lists and get your website promoted online. Here is why.

1. Your article can be listed on Google and other search engines. Once accepted by an article directory, your article will be published on its own web page, with that page optimized for your keywords, particularly your main keyword that will be included in your title and in the first few words of your article. It is then liable to be spidered just like any other web page, and listed in the search engine index for your keyword.

2. When writing articles, you should include a link to your website in the ?author?s resource? section. Why not make that a link to a squeeze page, designed to collect the name and address of readers? You could offer something free in exchange for the details, such as a free course or even a free report or eBook. That?s a great way of building a list, and every article you write could lead first to your squeeze page, and after that, another page offering content useful to the reader.

In doing that, you are using article marketing in its own right, and also as a means of search engine marketing and list building. It helps f you know how to write articles in such a way as keep your readers interested, mainly by offering them useful, free information. If you can tell them something about their niche that they didn?t know, then will respect you and perhaps want to read more of your work.

If you persuade your readers that you can help them make money, then they will continue to read. I sure would. It is beyond the scope of this article to teach you how to write articles, but I can give you some tips on how to make best of use of the articles that you do write.

Many people are under the impression that one article should be submitted to only one directory, and I am frequently asked what directory that should be. By many, I mean around 10 such questions each month. That is 10 too many that do not understand article marketing, or understand what Google mean by their ?duplicate content penalty?.

You can submit each article to 100 directories: personally, I do so to over 400 directories and ezines, and I do so over a period of 2 - 4 weeks. Not all at once. I will get a gradual increase in traffic over that period, and my websites improve in their listing positions. If I then left that for about two or three months, everything would slow down again, because the duplicate content penalty would be kicking in, and the publications on the lesser ezines and directories would begin to be dropped off by Google.

However, by doing that every week: by writing an article every week, and submitting to over 400 publications over a period of around 4 weeks, not only is there no net slow-down, but everything accelerates: the traffic, the listing positions and the income.

So, you can make money by writing articles, and generating traffic using article marketing is not pie-in-the-sky. Not if you do it right and understand exactly how Google looks on your article submissions, the time periods over which they are made, and after how long they invoke the so-called ?duplicate content penalty?, which is not really a penalty at all.

Many people are succeeding in marketing and I think it will become even more popular with the economy being what it is these days. It takes a lot of persistance but definitely worth it.

I'm still learning about Squidoo and how it ticks when I saw your note in the Warrior Forum looking for feedback on this lens. All of Tiffany's suggestions are bang-on. I would suggest working on 1) Good Content. Read any of Seth's Squidoo Lenses or his blog. It's not about selling a system or a book. It's about telling people all his secrets. He even tells you a lot if not most information in his books can be found online. Dan Poynter of Para Publishing is also amazing in the amount of information he gives away free and he is a best selling author. Provide quality information not a sales pitch and see what happens. 2) Comment on other people's lenses, Learn about Lensrolling & Groups. Good luck.

Great lens and information. I agree that building a list of people interested in what you have to say and teach is the best long term growth plan for any business, online or off.
