The duty of the power steering pump is to generate mechanical energy from the engine of the car so that it can be converted into hydraulic energy transferred to other parts. The exact function of the steering system in vehicles is to reduce the amount of effort required to steer. Especially helpful for the heavy vehicle drivers, because the drivers go such long ways and get tired so it becomes difficult for them to steer, possibly causing accidents. Besides, the more the steering power, the better the driving experience and the safer it is. Just as it is used in cars and other vehicles, a power steering pump is also used in many other equipments and machines used in construction and ships.

The history of power steering is relatively new, however it became something like an ordinary standard of a car in the last decades. There are a number of different configurations of the power steering systems, though they all function in a similar way.

Here, I will talk about the main components of a power steering pump system which contribute to function properly.

Power Steering Pump
This is the main body of the steering pump and as discussed above, it can be located at the front of the engine. Its function is to create mechanical energy from the engine so that it can be converted later into hydraulic energy.

Power Steering Pump Bracket
This is a rigid body member having a flat bottom that is used to mount the power steering pump on the front end of the engine.

Power Steering Pump Cooling Fan
As it can be inferred from the name, this is a component to cool the power steering pump. Since it generates great amounts of power in short time intervals, a great deal of heat is also generated, that's why there is a need for cooling.

Power Steering Pump Mount Bushing
This small item is used in mounting of the pump to the bracket.

Power Steering Pump Pulley
The pulley mechanism is driven by a rubberized belt that is attached to other engine components that are powered by the rotary power of the engine.

Power Steering Pump Pulley Tool
This is an item required for the pulley to function properly.

This is a must for any driver with a car having a power steering pump. You will not when such a repair will be necessary so, have one in case you need it.
