It Takes The Attitude Of A Champion To Break Out Of Your Comfort Zone

Our comfort zones keep us safe but they also stunt our growth. They hold us back and prevent us from becoming who we could be if we stepped out of them.

Atheletes are a prime example of this. They work out, train, tone up their mental attitude and possess the mindset of a champion. They visualize their victory mentally and prepare for it that way as well as physically. It isn't about comfort for them. It's about becoming a winner in their sport.

To be a winner in life, we must step out of the boundaries that we consider our safe place. We must challenge ourselves to do things we haven't done before. With anything, we find repitition and as we do it makes it easier and before long that is no longer a barrier to us. Actually that which we once feared becomes part of our comfort zone because we become comfortable with it.

This lens was written with the intent of inspiring all of us to step out of our comfort zones more. To embrace opportunities and situations that arise in our daily lives. Through those experiences we grow and increase the circumference of where we are comfortable. Our comfort zone increases and our lives become richer, more fulfilling and we can achieve our dreams.

The Comfort Zone (Author Unknown)

Over my years in business, I have read this before. Recently it appeared in my email inbox again as part of Ilene Meckley's newsletter.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

I used to have a comfort zone where I knew I couldn't fail.
The same four walls of busy work were really more like jail.
I longed so much to do the things I'd never done before.
But I stayed inside my comfort zone and paced the same old floor.

I said it didn't matter that I wasn't doing much.
I said I didn't care for things like diamonds, furs and such.
I claimed to be so busy with the things inside my zone,
But deep inside I longed for something special of my own.

I couldn't let my life go by just watching others win.
I held my breath and stepped outside to let the change begin.
I took a step and with new strength I'd never felt before

I kissed my comfort zone good-bye and closed and locked the door.
If you are in a comfort zone afraid to venture out,
Remember that all winners were at one time filled with doubt.
A step or two and words of praise can make your dreams come true.
Greet your future with a smile success is up to you!

Squidoo Lensmasters Swim Out Of Their Comfort Zones

The Reasons I Think Squidoo Lensmasters Step Out Of Their Comfort Zones

As I have grown in the Squidoo Sea, if you will, I have countless times been inspired by Lensmasters who swim out of their comfort zones. I see lenses that are just WOW when I read them. Some so filled with passion, zeal, a Lensmaster's love for what they do, enjoy or the message they convey.

Why do I think Squidoo Lensmasters swim out of their comfort zones as part of this great community? Let me share.....

IT TAKES COURAGE TO PUT YOUR IDEAS LIVE ON THE INTERNET - Being a Squidoo Lensmaster is rewarding. I can see that because I have been inspired by so many new ideas and creative juices since I really got involved. However still it takes courage to put your ideas, viewpoints, creativity, opinions, passion and more out there for the whole wide world - or at least the world wide web - to see. That is a big form of stepping out of what most would consider a comfort zone.

LENSMASTERS SHARE THEIR PASSIONS WITH THEIR MESSAGE - Often times when I read your lenses I get a true feeling that whatever you are writing about touches you right down to your toes. It's such a sharing from the heart - with passion - that I have a deep respect for. That too is a place where many would be out of their comfort zones.

IT TAKES GUTS AND A STRONG BELIEF TO STATE AN OPINION THAT MAY NOT BE POPULAR WITH EVERYONE - Even when I am reading a lens that I may not necessarily agree with the message or parts of it, I am still moved by the Lensmaster's commitment to sharing that thought, idea, opinion with the community. It takes guts to put something out there that could be controversial or not in keeping with the flow and I respect those Lensmasters who step out of their comfort zones to do so.

I find Squidoo Lensmasters are probably some of the MOST LIKELY TO STEP OUT OF THEIR COMFORT ZONES. For that, my friends in the Squidoo Sea, I respect you and look forward to seeing more from all of you! May we continue to strive for what we believe in and value and press firmly on in our quest towards our goals and dreams.

51 Ways To Expand Your Comfort Zone

Most of us love the familiar. Whether we realize it or not, we put a lot of work into ensuring that certain things in our lives remain constant. This personal "comfort zone" is the invisible, but very real area that defines the boundaries of what we know and understand. By staying within this comfort zone we reassure ourselves that we are safe. And as long as we are safely held within the walls of what we know we feel secure and confident.

As we move closer to the edges of that zone we begin to feel a bit shaky and unsure of ourselves. But those edges are where we grow. And by stretching those boundaries we increase our ability to receive.

T. Harv Eker, the author of The Secrets of The Millionaire Mind has said that our comfort zone equals our money zone. In order to have more money in our lives we must expand our comfort zone.

I would add that our comfort zone equals our joy zone, our love zone, our fulfillment zone, our spiritual connection zone, you name it.

So if you want more of anything in your life, the place to start is with your comfort zone. By expanding your comfort zone you will get more of what you want. It's that simple.

Now it sounds easy enough, but most of us have built up some pretty sturdy walls around our comfort zone. Pushing them out or breaking them down requires conscious, concerted effort. And I have found that it's easier to expand the comfort zone in small, steady, steps than in great big leaps. But in order to do that, you need to intentionally take expansive action on a daily basis.

So to get you started, I've created a list of 51 actions that might expand your comfort zone.

Keep in mind that the parameters of everyone's comfort zone are different. So if you already love to Scuba dive, number 30 on this list isn't going to expand your comfort zone very much! But there are most likely other items on this list that will work for you.

Also realize that many of these can, and may need to be, turned around to work for you. For example, number 6 is "Be the first to say 'I love you'". But if you're the one that always says I love you first, you'll need to turn it around to "Let the other person say 'I love you' first". For some of you that's going to be quite uncomfortable, especially when the other person doesn't say "I love you!"

This is not meant to be an all-inclusive list. It can't be. Instead, it's a catalyst and a reminder for you to take small steps each and every day that expand your comfort zone.

Here's the list:

1. Try some new food.
2. Go on a silent retreat.
3. Ask for a raise.
4. Smile at strangers.
5. Say hello to people in the grocery store.
6. Be the first to say "I love you".
7. Perform at an open mike night.
8. Eat at a local restaurant by yourself.
9. Take a day off from work to volunteer at your child's school.
10. Go back to school.
11. Start a new business.
12. Moonlight as a waitperson.
13. Unplug the TV for a week.
14. Write in a journal every day.
15. Learn to surf.
16. Go to a different church/temple/mosque each week.
17. Get your news from different sources.
18. Live in another country.
19. Do a house-swap for a month.
20. Use public transportation.
21. Wear an outrageous outfit.
22. Meditate for 15-minutes a day.
23. Put your cell phone in a drawer for a full week.
24. Make a fool of yourself on purpose.
25. Call someone you admire in your community and ask them out for lunch.
26. Ask someone you admire to be your mentor.
27. Switch sides (of the bed) with your partner.
28. Confront a phobia.
29. Jump out of a plane (with a parachute please!).
30. Learn to scuba dive.
31. Say I love you to your parents/children/siblings/friends.
32. Admit you were wrong.
33. Go to a movie by yourself.
34. Take responsibility for something you didn't do.
35. Give away all one-month's income.
36. Give a public talk on a topic you're passionate about.
37. Join a networking group.
38. Disconnect the Internet for a week.
39. Ask for help.
40. Get a part time job as a checker at your local grocery store.
41. Enter an art show.
42. Forgive someone.
43. Join Toastmasters.
44. Start a blog.
45. Ask for a partial or complete telecommute arrangement at work.
46. Take lessons in something you've always wanted to try.
47. Learn a foreign language.
48. Read a book in a genre you don't usually read.
49. Delegate more of your work.
50. Get up an hour earlier than usual.
51. Try a therapy or modality that seems a bit "out there."

Analyze Your Comfort Zone

Give Yourself The Green Light To Step Out Of Your Comfort Zone

The Comfort Zone is our living, work, and social environments that we have grown accustomed too. It determines the type of friends we make or people we associate with. It determines a life style we accept or reject.

Young people are very adaptable, they can adjust to changing comfort zones with ease. They can socialize with homeless people in the morning and be equally at east at a formal banquet in the evening. As we age, the ability to adapt to wide-ranging comfort zones, becomes more difficult. Social prejudice narrows the comfort zone range. Our present comfort zone is in one of the following conditions.

We want to maintain our current comfort zone.

We are dissatisfied with current conditions and want to move to another comfort zone.

We were suddenly thrust from our comfort zone and want back in.

We need to make decisions without supporting facts. The comfort zone can be a decision making tool.

If you were content with your current comfort zone, you would not be reading this. Because you are reading, it is assumed you want to make some changes in the way you live and work. That brings us to step two. If you are dissatisfied with your life style, you can change it by changing your comfort zone.

Comfort zones are directly related to our dreams or goals, which is associated with self-fulfilling prophecy. In order to grow and change, we must first be discontent with our current comfort zone. To change to different life style, establishing a business, or succeeding at a challenging project, we must realize that all meaningful and lasting changes occur first in daydreaming (fantasizing) and then they work their way into reality. If we clearly and vividly imagine ourselves being and having the things we truly want, we will create a new picture of ourselves. The old comfort zone, in time, will be unacceptable and we will find ways to acquire the new.

For example, if we want to sail the South Pacific in our own sailboat, we must clearly and vividly, image ourselves sitting in the cockpit of our boat and think about the challenge this environment would bring. This includes accepting the dangers along with the pleasures. The key to upgrading our comfort zone is to raise our self-image and level of what we expect or want first, then we will find opportunity to make the goal reality.

The more clearly and vividly we fantasize our dream, with frequent repetitions and emotional impact, the stronger and more real the pictures on the subconscious level will become. Once our subconscious accepts this image and its expectation, the subconscious will go to work, searching for a way to bring it into reality. If we feel that these things are too good for us, we will find ways to fail. If, however, we intentionally use our imagination to:

Imagine the change we want.

Build an expectation of the change.

Mentally and emotionally, prepare ourselves for the change by anticipating what it will be like.

We can find ways to dream and, when mentally ready, they will arrive faster than we ever thought possible. In effect, what we are doing is deliberately preparing for self-fulfilling prophecy. As has been repeated many times, "Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve."

For some people, problems, suffering, poverty, bad breaks are their comfort zone. Try to take away these problems and they will fight back. They find comfort in finding fault and complaining about their misfortune. The same is true for businesses. Daily crisis, employees making bad decisions, accidents, trivial problems, confrontation between management and workers is a workforce comfort zone. Management and workers have grown accustomed to seeing things go wrong and expect them too. Management finds comfort in finding fault with workers and workers find comfort in finding fault with management.

Negative comfort zones can be overcome by setting and thinking about positive goals. What we think about all day and what we expect, be it positive or negative, is our comfort zone.

Note: If the comfort zone we are seeking is beyond our current income, then, we need to develop a service that has greater value than our current one. Money, power and influence are not goals, they are rewards ONLY for personal achievement.
