Discovery of Life and Removal of Shame
Now, there's a second book out due to popular demand, a follow-up that was written from the requests I received from my reader-fans. In addition, there were some major events in my life that I wanted to share with the public. Hence, I furthered and developed my life as a writer. As is the case with most, it's not the only thing that I do.
I adore sharing my skills on the piano with all age groups as I pass along the great gift and talent that was given and trained within me. It is such a tremendous joy to me to be able to whip out Bach and Beethoven or pass some time in worship music in a prelude or offertory. Whenever I am overtaken by life's circumstances, I take to my piano, and can easily find solace there. It's far simpler than shopping or spending heaven-knows-how much money on something that truly would not satisfy for long. My music? It keeps satisfying day after day, year after year. I am blessed to have the skills and be able to pass them along.
As an author, the pen keeps flowing as I contemplate the various harsh circumstances I have had to deal with, and they are wide and varied. Health, family ,relationships, new starts. I seem to fit into that boomer audience of desiring that insightful mind with higher understanding, a mind with a spiritual depth that is higher than the one we were given by the previous generation. My reviews are good, and I know it's because I have centered the victories on God's lessons to me, not my victories, They are His, not mine.
Inspiration due to overcoming major obstacles is the theme in my work. I'm courageous and not afraid to address material that the public sometimes shies away from for the sake of politeness. I'm as honest as they come, and I write straight from my heart. I write from experience and from the core of my faith deep within. The victory is always evident although I am frightfully plain about the struggle. You will be able to identify, I promise. And you, too, will know the victory.
Three reasons to love Stephanie S Sawyer
What's Different About Her?
Honesty
Straightforwardness, sometimes known as directness.
All of these are centered in Christian faith at the core, victories in spite of hardship.
I write from the core, and often take on issues that are usually sidestepped for the matter of politeness. I suppose it's due to the courage I had to assume in allowing doctors to drill holes in my skull and go into my brain taking out a lobe of it! - I'm not afraid of public opinion anymore. Just give me the issue, and I'll let you know my forthright thoughts. I've faced some difficult issues, and I'd really rather share the wisdom gained.
Quick, what do you think of Stephanie S Sawyer?

- Stephanie Sawyer is not only a survivor but a great writing coach, too. She finds the good in people and provided an invaluable level of help that propelled me to write my own book about epilepsy (Through the Darkness: One Man's Fight to Overcome Epilepsy). I have had thousands of by-lines as a journalist, but I must say being able to complete my book was the greatest thrill of my life.
As fellow brain surgery survivors, we have met our challenges head-on and hopefully been able to encourage others to never give up at the same time.
Hat's off to "Coach Stevie" for guiding me through the process and being a wonderful friend to many, many people.

- Stephanie Sawyer writes what she lives, what she feels, with great honesty and passion.
No matter what life dishes out to her, she keeps on moving forward and upward. I admire that.

The Smithsonian publishes my article
My article posted above is being published in The Smithsonian for the "My Kind of Town" feature they are running. I came to Tomball from Houston five years ago, and fell in love with it right away. My article, once featured in both news journals here, The Tribune, and The Potpourri, and on the City of Tomball website, explains the charms and family orientation of the city as well as the natural environment that surrounds the town. Please take time to share and leave a comment.

My Story: Overcoming Obstacles
As for advocating, my gumption often gets the better side of me and I will get on my soapbox about certain deep felt issues. Ever since my corrective brain operation for the cessation of seizures, I have not been shy. Hey! - What's to worry about after having part of one's brain removed!?
I have two books published, both inspirations, and both true victories. The first is my story about breaking out of shame and epilepsy. It is more than the journey of brain surgery. It is the journey out of codepency. Hence the title: "Facing Me". The second, "IMPRINTS: Stories That Solicit a Response" is a series of vignettes to challenge the regular public myth and stigma that is usually placed on various hardship circumstances regarding people in their journey. I hope it will challenge the eyes of many, and so I have been already told.
My story has made it around the globe, and I have been recognized nationally for my work in health education regarding seizures. Now, I advocate when possible for a higher understanding regarding epilepsy. There is still much to be done in breaking stigma.
In a nutshell, I beleive in overcoming major obstacles. I also love to challenge others for the sake of growth, as my second book does There are many stigmas alive and kicking in everyday lives. I have seen many hardships, have overcome great obstacles, and now I write about the victories. I seek to encourage others for the journey. I can guarantee that you will be inspired by reading my story.
