Which Vampires Are Better?

retweet

Stephenie Meyer's Vampires Better Than Anne Rice's?

I've been reading vampire books for many years now and Anne Rice is definitely my favorite one. Although I did enjoyed reading the Twilight Saga Books, I find the Anne Rice Vampires more erotic, scarier than the Stephenie Meyer vampires.

Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles, are the best vampire books I'd have ever read, and I have read many. I mean there is no way you can compare Lestat, Armand and Marius with any of the Cullens. I'm sorry twilight fans, but that's the truth! I also like Twilight but the fact is that Anne Rice knows how to write about vampires better than Stephenie Meyer.

That's my opinion, now, let me know what you think. Do you prefer Stephenie Meyer's vampires or Anne Rice's?

Do You Like Stephenie Meyer's Vampires Better Than Anne Rice's?

I Think Anne Rice's Vampires are much better... What Do You Think?

Yes, you're right!

MeL says:

I must say that, although it's nice having an author who was able to get teens to read a book and get them way of a computer for a while, I agree with Anne Rice knowing how to write about vampires. Hers come alive, we feel what they do, we hate or love them as much as the characters involved in their non-lives. The only other author I know who was able to write about vampires - although his are the bad guys in the stories - is Brazilian André Vianco. My friend uses to saying: "Anne Rice makes me pitty vampires; Vianco makes me pitty humans".

Brian "Darkone" A. says:

My vote goes to Anne Rice's TRUE Vampires.

Gwen says:

I too enjoy Meyer's vampires; she has a very refreshing take on the vampire legend. But it may just be my age and the fact that I grew up reading Anne Rice's vampires, but my opinion is Rice's vampires are the best. She writes with so much love and conviction that it's impossible not to love her stories. Meyer and Rice are from two different generations and viewpoints that it's almost like comparing apples and oranges. Meyer writes love stories that just happen to be about vampires, werewolves and shapeshifters. Her stories can come from any creatures' point of view and she would be telling the same story; a story about love. Rice writes about vampires, demons, etc. and their lives. It's a journey through the lives of these creatures. So if you're talking about stories about vampires, I feel Rice wins handsdown simply because her writing makes you feel as if you are traveling with her characters. Younger vampire readers may feel differently though. But I'd take Lestat over Edward any day!!

Ling says:

Anne Rice's vampires are BELIEVABLE, plausible, tangible creatures. Meyer's vampires have this medieval fantastical quality about them like ancient stories that we all treat with respect but with too much not faith, especially when debating their existence.

kandy says:

I agree, there is no way to compare meyer vampires against Rice, Rice definitely knows more about life and myths of vampires while meyer only used to give a touch of action to his novel.

I like Twilight but I love interview with the vampire.

lourin says:

u right anne know how to wright about vampires she made them realy amazing i mean u c how she made louis but don't missunderstand i'm twilight's biggest fan but i think that anne wrights better

Anachronous Kitts says:

Anne Rice is 10x better than Stephenie Meyer, the stories have alot more ...substance is the word? than Stephenie's. I like Meyer's but doesnt compare to Rice's

monkey butt says:

come on how can Edward Cullen even come anywhere close to competing with Anne Rice? Twilight are basically like X men genetic freaks of nature NOT vampires. and quite frankly i thought Tom Cruise made a brilliant Lestat.

HOW STEPHANIE MEYER C
Also if you examine the evidence Stephanie stole from interview with the vampire:
vegetarian diet only animals = direct link to Louis diet of chickens and rats
inmortal children = Claudia created by Lestat
there is more but you get the idea

Lestat is the brat prince

DD says:

Meyers has nothing on Rice, I have been a rice fan since I began to read, She embodies vampires unlike any other, Her vampires are realistic. To me Meyers seems like a Mary sue fan fic.

LionVsWolf says:

Anne Rice is One Of the Most Brilliant Writers in Modern Time, Yes maybe for the younger generation doesn't know her but please DO Read Her Vampire Chronicles and You will not be disappointed. My fav was Pandora, simply genius.

Kaela says:

i think stephenie's are cool but com on, they don't even have fangs!!

kadabug87 says:

no but yes they are more to the stories to the past but stephanies are more to our time

rawr says:

Anne Rice > Stephanie Meyer, any day... better writer and better vamps

Mommy4468 says:

Anne Rice's definitey wrote the best vampire. It was Tom Cruise that spoiled the character. But I am digging the Cullens.

DarkGem says:

I hate sparkly vampires....Anne Rice's Vampires are more intriguing and realistic. Twilights vampires are soooo fake....

Ladydove62 says:

Anne Rice's style is incomparable. I have only seen the Twilight movie and not read her books.

No way, Monkeybrain!

Akasha4eva_anne says:

i say that anne rice vamps are waaaaayyy waaayy better den meyers. i mean anne sticks 2 wat a vamp shud b she doesnt try & bring it 2da main stream. NO! she keeps it down& dirty given it its only glamour, through sensuality, intrigue,& mystery. who da hell wants 2c a vamp who glitters?? & doesn't hav any fangs..daz nt stayn tru 2wat a vamp is. meyers is 4 lil' kids who r eitha 2scared or 2 lame brain 2appreciate da tru essence of a night walker!! vampz were made 2scare da shit out of us bt at da sametime hunger 2know wat they r, wat they want, etc. nt 2b popular 4 teens..ANNE RICE!!!!!!!! all da way.

V says:

They both have their merits. There's something dangerously sexy about Edward, but we don't get to see it that much since we view everything through Bella's eyes in the Twilight saga. Anne Rice's vampires are definitely written for an older audience. But, her vamps had their shortcomings. I mean, c'mon, look at Louis: A sniveling, whining somewhat pitiful and self-loathing vampire who could barely stand to eat rats, and in her later works the strange spiral she seems to have taken into the absurdly religious. Both series have the advantage of being set in real locations, which somehow adds to the fun for me. One of the highlights of my trip to New Orleans was sitting at the Cafe du Monde and daydreaming, lol. I fully intend to one day visit Forks, just because it's another way to get close to the magic for a moment.
Each author has their merits and their detriments. To me, they are equally engaging and enjoyable.

Farwa says:

I LOVE Stephenie Meyer's vampires, yeah your right, their not that scary, but the Twilight Saga isn't really about that kind of stuff. Its a saga/story about forbidden love and all that.

Anne Rice's Vampires... THE VAMPIRE CHRONICLES

The Vampire Chronicles is a series of novels by Anne Rice that revolves around the fictional character Lestat de Lioncourt, a French nobleman made into a vampire in the 18th century.

The chronicles have gained a large fanbase since the publication of the first volume in the 1970s. Stephenie Meyer's Vampires... TWILIGHT SERIES

Twilight is a series of four vampire-based fantasy romance novels by American author Stephenie Meyer. It charts a period in the life of Isabella "Bella" Swan, a teenage girl who moves to Forks, Washington and falls in love with a 104-year-old vampire named Edward Cullen. The series is told primarily from Bella's point of view, with the epilogue of Eclipse and Part II of Breaking Dawn being told from the viewpoint of character Jacob Black, a werewolf. The unpublished Midnight Sun is a retelling of the first book, Twilight, from Edward Cullen's point of view.

Ever since the release of the first novel, Twilight, in 2005, the books have gained immense popularity and commercial success around the world. The series is most popular among young adults; the four books have won multiple awards, most notably the 2008 British Book Award for "Children's Book of the Year" for Breaking Dawn, while the series as a whole won the 2009 Kids' Choice Award for Favorite Book.

As of November 2009, the series has sold over 85 million copies worldwide with translations into at least 38 different languages around the globe. The four Twilight books have consecutively set records as the biggest selling novels of 2008 on the USA Today Best-Selling Books list and have spent over 235 weeks on the New York Times Best Seller list for Children's Series Books.

Thus far, the first three books are being made into a series of motion pictures by Summit Entertainment; the film adaptation of Twilight was released in 2008 and the second, New Moon, was released on November 20, 2009.

From Library Journal
Rice continues what promises to be a series with this fascinating sequel to her Interview with the Vampire. One of its characters, Lestat, encouraged by the telling of that story, narrates his own history, focusing on his boyhood transformation, subsequent wanderings, and constant attempts to rationalize his newly acquired immortality. Don't expect the usual stake-in-the-heart story; Rice is creating a new vampire mythos, mixing ancient Egyptian legends into her narrative, and weaving a rich and unforgettable tale of dazzling scenes and vivid personalities. This extraordinary book outclasses most contemporary horror fiction and is a novel to be savored. Highly recommended.

The Old School Vampires

Anne Rice's vampires have a very classic and elegant look, very old school. Anne Rice write about scary, horrifying but yet erotic and sensual vampires. She follows the same rules as many other have about vampires. These vamps are not someone to make friends with, these are not the Cullens. they would ripe you in pieces even before you could react.

The way Anne Rice describe her vampires is in a very dark and classy way. These vampires are very old, some are even more than 3,000 years old.

OLD SCHOOL VAMPS!

Modern and Chic Vampires

The vampires in Stephenie Meyer's world are very different from the regular, old school vamps we were used to read about. For me, vampires wore dark, classic clothes, but when I read Twilight I found that not only vampires were cool, but they dressed very modern and chic.

Stephenie Meyer portraits her vampires as very fashionable and very in style! They all looked like models wearing designers clothing!

I like the classic vampire look, it's darker

Brian "Darkone" A. says:

Classics are far better than the FAKE ASS 90210 want-a-bes who don't even have any fangs. There're only suitable for Soap Operas Shows that's IT! And to go off subject a bit the werewolves are fake as shit too who ever write New Moon is a Werewolf lover it's not fair to have giant wolves that's 10 times bigger then the normal wolf size this is pure B.S. What these wolf lovers don't know there're weaker than the vampire because once the Werewolf dies they become Vampires themselves, that's right look it up in the archives. Werewolves don't have SHIT on a TRUE VAMPIRE. There I've vented and had my say go do the research and you'll see what I'm talking about. Oh! Classic Vampires RULE!

Monkey Butt says:

the old school leave Twilight in the dust! hmm hot Lestat biting your neck... or Edward Cullen hmm LESTAT!!!! he is cheeky, naughty, sensual, hot, provcative, and a real vampire what's not to love?

kadabug87 says:

I like the classic vampire look, but the modern look is sexy very hotttttt.....!!!

I prefer the modern look. It's sexy

Anne Rice's Vampires Are More Erotic and Sensual

Not only Anne Rice's Vampires are scarier and more dangerous, they are definitely more sensual and erotic than Stephenie Meyer's vampires. The sexual tension between the vampires in Anne Rice's books are incredible, suitable for real hardcore vampire fans!

The sexual tension between Lestat and Akasha was very strong, powerful and of course terrifying! i think their chemistry was better than Edward and Bella.

Real Hot Vampire Romance

Twilight's Vampire Love is More Juvenile

I know Twilight was written for young teen girls, and that's why the romance is so juvenile. But still, young people don't act like that when they are in love. They are very immature and selfish at times. Twilight's romance was very unreal and that gives false hopes for young girls who are reading the books. They think all guys are like Edward and that's not true.

The fact that a vampire is so lovely dovely with his girlfriend is very funny to me. He is supposed to be a vampire, a scary creature, who only lurks his prey for one reason and one reason only... to KILL THEM!

I did enjoy reading twilight, but I think Anne Rice's vampires are far more erotic and sexual. Like vampires should be.

Stephenie Meyer's Vampires Sparkle In The Sun

Yes, they don't burn like we used to think, no, Stephenie Meyer's vampires sparkle in the sunlight. It's very different from what we were told to believe within the vampire mythology. Not only they sparkle, but they don't drink human blood, they called themselves vegetarians because they only drink animal blood. Which doesn't make sense to me. The whole reason they are vampires is to kill and drink human blood.

But of course, this is Stephenie Meyer's world, and she can make her vampires be they way she want them to be... I think!@

TRUE BLOOD chronicles the backwoods Louisiana town of Bon Temps... where vampires have emerged from the coffin, and no longer need humans for their fix. Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin, Golden Globe(R)-winner for "True Blood", Academy Award®-winner for "The Piano") works as a waitress at the rural bar Merlotte's. Though outwardly a typical young woman, she keeps a dangerous secret: she has the ability to hear the thoughts of others. Her situation is further complicated when the bar gets its first vampire patron - 173-year old Bill Compton (Steven Moyer, "Quills") - and the two outsiders are immediately drawn to each other. Delivering the best of what audiences have come to expect from Creator and Executive Producer Alan Ball (writer of Oscar®-winning Best Picture "American Beauty", creator of the Emmy® Award-winning HBO® series "Six Feet Under"), TRUE BLOOD is a dark and sexy tale that boldly delves into the heart - and the neck - of the Deep South.

Strong Female Vampire

Anne Rice's Female Vampires Are Stronger Characters

I have to admit that Anne Rice's female vampire characters are much stronger than Stephenie Meyer's. For example: Stephenie Meyer's female vampires, Rosalie and Alice are very simple and almost fun characters. They don't drink human blood, they don't kill humans, at all! and they even make friends with the humans.

On the other hand, Anne Rice's female vamps, like my favorite one of all, Akasha, could vanish Stephenie Meyer's girls in one breath. This character is so strong, so powerful and so evil, it makes her the most terrifying vampire alive! She is to be the oldest of the vampires and the first one to be ever created. Akasha is very powerful and lethal! She is THE QUEEN OF THE DAMNED.

You think you can change my will? I've had enough of this discussion. Join me or die! ... Akasha, Queen of the Damned

I like Rosalie and Alice Cullen better

kadabug87 says:

akasha is stronger definately but rosalie and alice are my favorite

sara(h) says:

i dont now but maybe the male is stronger

Stacey says:

Now Akasha kicks major ass, but remember it is Alice that rips James head off in Twilight. And Rosalie isnt exactly a wallflower. I think if pushed to the breaking point the sisters Cullen might one up the Queen. And with mama bear Esme on their side Akasha doesnt stand a chance.

Amazon.com Review
Did you ever wonder where all those mischievous vampires roaming the globe in Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles came from? In this, the third book in the series, we find out. That raucous rock-star vampire Lestat interrupts the 6,000-year slumber of the mama of all bloodsuckers, Akasha, Queen of the Damned.

Akasha was once the queen of the Nile (she has a bit in common with the Egyptian goddess Isis), and it's unwise to rile her now that she's had 60 centuries of practice being undead. She is so peeved about male violence that she might just have to kill most of them. And she has her eye on handsome Lestat with other ideas as well.

The Queen and King of Vampires in Anne Rice's World

Anne Rice Queen and King of Vampires - Those Who Must Be Kept

In the novels of Anne Rice, Those Who Must Be Kept are the progenitors of all vampires who are also regarded as the King and Queen of the Vampires.

Originally King Enkil and Queen Akasha of Kemet (now Egypt) circa 5,000 BCE, they became the first vampires when an evil spirit named Amel was able to enter the body of Akasha through a wound and fuse with her flesh. Akasha then turned Enkil into a vampire by drawing out nearly all of his blood and then allowing him to drink nearly all of hers. (See: The Queen of the Damned)

The term "Those Who Must Be Kept" was coined by the vampire Marius referring to the fact that what befalls Akasha and Enkil also befalls all vampires; if they are injured, so are their children, if they die, so do all vampires. An example of this is explained in the story of Marius' life: The current caretaker of the two sought to be free of them, and placed them in the sun. The two lived, but weaker vampires were destroyed by spontaneous combustion.

Long before Marius came into conservatorship of Those Who Must Be Kept, they were nearly completely inanimate, seated seemingly unconscious for centuries without moving.

This all came to an end in the 1980s, when the music of vampire rock star Lestat roused Queen Akasha. In so rising she killed her consort Enkil, draining him of blood and caused her guardian Marius to become imprisoned in the ice and remains of his house. (See: The Vampire Lestat, The Queen of the Damned)

Akasha thereafter traveled the world over striking down every vampire except Lestat, those whom Lestat loved and those she could not detect. It later becomes clear that Akasha intends for those vampires she has spared to become her "angels", or if they chose to fight her, they will become devils opposed to her.

This, in addition to Lestat's first concert, led to an unprecedented gathering of ancient and fledgling vampires at the Sonoma compound of Maharet, one of the first brood of vampires. They gathered to hear Maharet tell the story of how the Queen became a vampire and to plot their defense against her expected onslaught.

Meanwhile, Akasha absconded with Lestat to remote places around the world, spreading her dictum that she is the "Queen of Heaven" with Lestat as her mute consort, and commanding women to rise up and kill every man and boy, save a few.

It appeared that Akasha would carry out her maniacal plan with or without the help of the other vampires. Her appeals falling on deaf ears it seemed that a great battle between the Queen and her subjects was inevitable. But another ancient vampire appeared, the long-lost twin of Maharet, Mekare, who had sworn an oath to destroy Akasha. Mekare quickly decapitated the Queen and in so doing seemed to spell the end for all vampires. But, as The Vampire Lestat writhed on the floor watched by the others, Mekare took Akasha's brain and heart thus taking Amel into herself, absorbing the core of the spirit and becoming the new Queen of the Damned.
