Mr. Sondheim received a Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre at the 2008 TOny Awards. What a well-deserved award for an incredible asset to the world of theatre. Mandy Patinkin accepted on his behalf and read a moving speech provided by Mr. Sondheim. We can continue to expect wonderful things from this prolific Broadway legend!

Stephen Joshua Sondheim (born March 22, 1930) is an American musical and film composer and lyricist, winner of an Academy Award, multiple Tony Awards (seven, more than any other composer) and the Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre, multiple Grammy Awards, and a Pulitzer Prize. He has been described by Frank Rich in the The New York Times as "the greatest and perhaps best-known artist in the American musical theatre." Sweeney Todd - the movie! 

So who's excited to see Johnny Depp as the Demon Barber??

Sondheim lovers will soon get an exciting treat - the new movie of Sweeney Todd starring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. I'm looking forward to posting my review!

Update: still haven't had time to see the movie yet, but I'm hearing some not-so-great things from true musical theater buffs. We'll see. More to come.
