How to rip DVD on Mac

With the release of the fifth-generation iPod in 2005, the age of digital video began in earnest. Along with CDs, computer users sought a method for ripping their DVDs into conveniently smaller files. While CD-ripping is an old trick by now, there are few DVD-ripping programs out there that can handle the task quickly efficiently -- even fewer of these programs are free. Fortunately, if you're a Mac user, you have access to the best program available for getting those DVDs to your hard drive, iPod, or Apple TV: Handbrake.
Here, I would like to write about how to rip DVD on Mac by using an useful Mac DVD Ripper - HandBrake. Basically the steps are this easy:
1. Insert a DVD into your drive
2. Launch HandBrake
3. Handbrake will then scan the DVD disk and read all the chapters and titles. Tip: be sure to select the proper title because if there's any special features or extras on the DVD you could inadvertently rip that instead of the actual movie.
4. If HandBrake doesn't automatically find the DVD just click on File > Open Source and manually select the DVD
5. Select the file format you want to export to and the destination (default is mp4 to desktop), and rip!
6.It will take a while to rip the DVD depending on the speed of your Mac but the ripped DVD will appear on your Desktop when it's done.

Introduction of HandBrake

HandBrake is probably the best choice for ripping a DVD in Mac OS, and it makes DVD rips very easy to create in a variety of file formats.

HandBrake is a general-purpose, open-source, cross-platform, multithreaded video transcoder software application.
Basic features of HandBrake
Encoding
Users are able to customise the output by altering the bit rate, maximum file size or bit rate and sample rate via "constant quality".
HandBrake supports batch encoding through the Mac OS X, Linux and Windows graphical user interface (GUI) and command line interface (CLI). Third party scripts and UI's exist specifically for this purpose, such as HandBrake Batch Encoder and VideoScripts.[8] Both make use of the CLI to enable queueing of several files in a single directory.
Video filtering
HandBrake also supports deinterlacing, decombing, scaling, detelecine, and cropping.
Sources
Handbrake, according to its website, "converts video from nearly any format to a handful of modern ones - that's it"; it does not crack copy protection. One form of input is DVD that can be sourced from a data storage device as a VIDEO_TS folder or ISO image or directly from an optical disc drive.
DVD
HandBrake's developers removed libdvdcss (the open-source library responsible for accessing and unscrambling DVDs encrypted with the Content Scramble System (CSS)) from the application in version 0.9.2. Removal of digital rights management (DRM) in HandBrake is possible by installing VLC (0.9.x), a media player application that includes the libdvdcss library.
[edit] Blu-ray Disc
As with DVDs, HandBrake does not directly support the decryption of Blu-ray Discs. However, HandBrake can be used to transcode a Blu-ray Disc if the digital rights management is first removed using a third party application, such as MakeMKV. MakeMKV is a popular application for decrypting Blu-ray Discs and is often used in conjunction with HandBrake.
Unlike HandBrake, MakeMKV does not transcode; it removes the digital rights management from a Blu-ray Disc and creates an exact copy, at its original frame size and data rate, in a Matroska (MKV) multimedia container which can then be used as a source in HandBrake.
