Steps For Planning A Wedding

Before you start your wedding planning, you need to set a budget. Whether you're thinking about a cheap wedding or one that would make a Hollywood movie star turn green with envy, you need to decide how much you are going to spend and who is going to help pay for the event.

The next thing on your list should be the theme of your wedding. Whether you want a simple wedding or your plan is to recreate an ancient Roman wedding, this stage will help the rest of your planning to be co-ordinated.

After that, decide how small or large your wedding is going to be. Whether it will be a small, intimate ceremony or something bigger. This will allow you to choose an appropriate venue for your wedding. You'll also find out at this stage what your chosen venue will cost and the dates that are available for you to exchange your wedding vows.

You also need to decide who will perform your wedding ceremony and check that they are available on your planned wedding date.

Once you've set the date, it's time to send out your wedding invitations. Remember to send these out in good time so that your friends and family can fit you into their schedules.

OK, next it's time to start shopping!

Obviously the bride needs a wedding dress. You can either buy one locally or there are specialists online who will design and create your perfect wedding dress.

Then you need to decide on your wedding rings and get these ordered.

You also need to book a photographer for your wedding. As well as checking availability, take the time to go through their catalog of work to check that it's up to the quality you want. Nowadays, lots of people have their wedding day filmed as well as regular photographs. Double check with your chosen venue that this is OK - some have restrictions on photography, especially when it comes to signing the marriage register.

The venue for your wedding reception is the other thing to consider, along with the food you'll be serving and the band or DJ who will be playing.

Remember your wedding cake as well!

Wedding Planning Checklist

One of the easiest ways of creating a wedding planning checklist is to use a spreadsheet.

Create columns for: date, item, who is responsible for organizing it, who you are using, price agreed, their contact details and any notes.

Then make sure that you keep everything up to date.

Another way to create a wedding planning checklist is to use specialist software to keep track of everything. Some companies will even let you use their own software in exchange for, say, placing your wedding gift list with them.

However you keep your list, make sure that it stays up to date and keep a backup! If you're not yet living with your partner, keep a copy on their computer as well as yours. Or send your parents a copy of your checklist on a regular basis.

Wedding Planning Timeline

Whilst timelines seem more associated with business project planning, planning for a wedding needs to have some kind of timeline otherwise it just won't work out.

There are so many things to organize and they need to be done in a specific order, otherwise at best it will be total chaos.

Take the time out to work out your wedding planning timeline.

Get your checklist and go through it to ensure that all the different critical items are on the list. Get someone else to double check for you - it's easy to miss items off a long list.

Then work out which things need to happen first. For instance, you can't send out your wedding invitations before you book your wedding venue.

Once you've got this "critical path" for your wedding planning, you can start to make sense of what needs to be booked and when you need to book it.

Whilst it is certainly possible to do this kind of task with pen and paper, it probably makes sense to use a computer. Either a simple spreadsheet or a specialist wedding planning software program.

A wedding is the ceremony in which two people are united in marriage or a similar institution. Wedding traditions and customs vary greatly between cultures, ethnic groups, religions, countries, and social classes. Most wedding ceremonies involve an exchange of wedding vows by the couple, presentation of a gift (offering, ring(s), symbolic item, flowers, money), and a public proclamation of marriage by an authority figure or leader. Special wedding garments are often worn, and the ceremony is followed by a wedding reception. Music, poetry, prayers or readings from Scripture or literature also may be incorporated into the ceremony.
