Steps to Marriage Separation Reconciliation

Unfortunately, sometimes the disagreements between spouses cannot be resolved and one or both spouses may be inclined towards filing for a divorce. However, before you do so, it's important to give your marriage yet another chance - controlled marriage separation reconciliation.

There are 3 important steps that need to be carried-out before separation, at the time of separation and after the separation.

1. Evaluate the reasons and goals for your separation.

Marriage separation may not work as planned, if there are completely different reasons for separation for each of the spouses. In order to achieve a goal, your reasons have to be at least very similar.

"Wrong reasons" for marriage separation include: wanting to avoid problems, wanting to punish your spouse, and not knowing how to otherwise let your spouse know that you are unhappy.

2. Set guidelines and follow them.

You should try to set very clear guidelines for the time of your separation and to follow through with them. The main guidelines of your marriage separation should include: the length of the separation, amount of communication, frequency of communications, and perhaps outlining the conversational topics which should be avoided.

Since separation is supposed to give both spouses some space, they should plan to limit their communications. For example, one email per day and one phone call per week.

Reach a no-dating agreement prior to your trial separation. This is a very important step for couples, who truly want to give their love another try. Having sexual entanglements with other people may put an abrupt end to your marriage separation, resulting in a divorce.

3. Taking time to reflect.

Another important step to be undertaken within the separation is trying to reflect on your marriage. After all, that is one of the main reasons for a trial separation. Now that there is no stress from conflicts with your spouse, it's probably one of the best times to think everything over. What are the things that you and your partner are doing wrong in your marriage? What may be the solutions to these? What is your life like without your partner?
