A Little Bit About Stetson Hat Company
In 1865 John B. Stetson created the Stetson Hat Company. With the quality and care John Stetson put in his Stetson hats they quickly become the most popular hat company on the market. The Stetson Hat Company now resides in Garland, Texas. It is one of the largest hat companies in the country and produces many different styles & colors of hats. There are several different categories of hats in the Stetson family. Below you will find a few.
Stetson Felt Hats
Here we have the Felt Hat Collection. You have your soft felts & hard felts to choose from. Their are many different types of Fur that they use to make the hats. The main thing that determines what X's they use is the quality of the fur that they use to make the hat. Some of the furs that are used to make the hats are beaver, mink, chinchilla and other animal fur. The higher the X's the higher percentage of beaver fur is mixed in the hat. This hat that you see here is the Stetson Teague Hat. It is a hard felt that can't be shaped unless it was taken to someone who has a hat shaper. Stetson Leather Hats
First we have the Stetson Leather Hats. These hats are unique in their own way. The Roxbury Stetson hat is one of the most popular hats that they have to offer. This hat is available in 3 different colors black, mocha, & tan. This hat features a leather hat band with 3 conchos on the band. It also has a shapeable brim for you to shape it any way you like. This hat is suitable for a man or a woman. Stetson Straw Hats
Next we have the Stetson Straw Hats. Every straw hat has its differences. Whether its a crushable straw or a straw that has a wire brim they all have their own characteristics. The Monterray Bay Stetson straw hat is charcoal in color & has a leather band with a Stetson logo on the front. This hat does have a wire brim & can be shaped any way you like. How to take care of your Stetson Hat.
General Cleaning and Care
1.To remove dust or surface dirt from your hat: - if you purchased a straw simply wipe with a clean damp cloth. -If a fur felt was purchased, use a soft brush, starting at the left side of the hat, and brush it counterclockwise toward the back and around again.2.If your hat gets wet, simply shake off the excess water. If it's a fur felt, you need to turn down the "self-conforming" leather sweatband and stand the hat on the sweatband so it can dry naturally. While the hat is wet, don't rest the hat on its brim as this could cause it to lose its shape.
3.Avoid exposing your hat to heat from stoves, radiators, lamps and car windows. The combination of heat and perspiration will shrink the sweatband.
4.To keep perspiration and hair dressing from penetrating to the outside of the straw, occasionally turn down the sweatband so it can dry between wearings.
5.Should your fur felt (if it is a light color) become spotted with water or grease, you can clean it with a little baby talc or cornstarch - no liquid cleaners, please!
6.To put on or remove your hat, hold the brim in front and back; handle the crown as little as possible.
7.Store your hat upside down, on its crown, on a clean surface or in a box. Do not store it right side up on a flat surface, as this can cause the brim to flatten.
How to measure your hat size.
First you will need a cloth measuring tape. Measure the circumference of your head where the hat will be worn. Take your measurement in inches and refer any hat sizing chart. If you happen to be in between sizes, choose the bigger size. What do the X's in a hat mean?
The History of the Stetson Hat
In 1865, with $100, John B. Stetson rented a small room, bought the tools he needed, bought $10 worth of fur and the John B. Stetson Hat Company was born. A year later the "Hat of the West" or the now famous "Boss of the Plains" hat was born and the name Stetson was on its way to becoming the mark of quality, durability, innovation and beauty.John B. Stetson experienced trying times in his life but after it all he relied on the one thing he did exceptionally well, making hats. He was trained by his father, a master hatter, and applied his skills and knowledge to a trade that, at the time was not held in high regard.
A hatter was seen as unreliable, lazy, or aloof, only looking to make his money and go have fun. John B. Stetson changed all that and built one of America's most well-known and successful businesses. The longevity and history of the John B. Stetson Company is based on innovation and quality! John B. Stetson led the hat industry his entire career by designing new hat styles for fashion and function. When it came to quality it was his creed and for the past 130 years it has so stamped the product that the name and the word are synonymous.
Today the Stetson hat factory in Garland, Texas is one of the largest in the country and produces a line of hats in hundreds of different styles and colors. In spite of this size, however, classic styling and premium quality remain as the driving forces behind each and every hat. As a result, Stetson hats are the most well known hats in the world. Wherever and whenever hats are discussed Stetson will be mentioned.
Stetson is the standard in hats, the essence of the spirit of the West and an icon of everyday American lifestyle. Because of its authentic American heritage, Stetson remains as a part of history and, for the same reason will continue into the future.
Stetson, it's not just a hat, it's the hat.
