Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson

Ranked #9,122 in Books, Poetry & Writing, #321,707 overall

When Steve Jobs passed away, many people were sad. He really changed the world through his ingenuity. I never really understood him much though other than the fact that he was the founder of Apple. So I decided to read up on him. I had heard about the Steve Jobs book by Walter Isaacson. The biography was based on more than 40 interviews with Jobs over 2 years. It also includes interviews with family members, friends, enemies, and colleagues.

Steve Jobs

The book is broken down into 3 parts. In the first part, Isaacson talks about how Jobs and Woz create the first personal computer which is the Apple II. Apple goes public and Jobs creates the Mac. He then brings Scully, CEO of Pepsi, to run the company that Jobs had built. In the end, Jobs finds that he is kicked out of the company. After getting kicked out of his own company, Jobs goes on to create two more companies with is NeXT Computer and Pixar. NeXT was not very successful and almost caused Jobs to run out of money. Pixar however, was a huge success because of Toy Story.
Part two of the book talks about how Steve Jobs goes back to Apple. At that time, Apple was going downhill and it had just bought NeXT. As the interim CEO, Jobs introduces some new products like the peppermint colored iMacs.

Part three of the book talks about Apples best creations including the iPod, iPhone, and the iPad. Apple finally overtakes Microsoft as the most valuable tech company. There are times when Apple was the most valuable company in the world.
The book mainly talks about Job's personal life, his personality and his beliefs. You will find many interesting stories that no one ever knew about Jobs. For example, he was a fruitarian once and that was why he named the company, Apple. He was also a descendant of a Syrian Muslim but later on became a Buddhist.

Before I read this book, I had thought this was going to be a book glorifying Steve Jobs. However, I did not find that to be the case. The book covers everything about Jobs including his success and failures and his strengths and shortcomings. This was a very interesting read indeed.
