HERE'S WHAT I THINK

Steve Jobs is an arrogant prick

Steve Jobs co-founded Apple in 1976. In the 30 years since its inception Jobs has been called many things...including a prick. Steve Jobs has an arrogant egocentric personality, an aggressive and mean-spirited management style and a bizarre personal life, like his obsession with The Beatles and questioning his daughter's paternity, then naming a computer after her, the Lisa.

While some might call Jobs a brilliant eccentric I find his behavior offensive. Leading by intimidation is not my style. Sadly when people think of Apple they think Steve Jobs, where-as Steve Wozniak was the real brains behind the machine.

Jobs created a persona for himself and Apple. Apple = Art, Design & Creativity...and a lot of people bought into the fantasy. How many people out there overpaid for a purple iMac? My husband and I have a defunct Aqua one in the basement.

So does that make Steve Jobs a Prick? Yes is does...but it also made him a lot of money. The question is does being a prick make your a millionaire or a monster? I'm not sure I know the answer to that question.

Yes, you're right!

Fab says:

In the case of Steve Jobs being a prick made him a millionaire (well, a billionaire...). Why some people reach success in life and others do not? Being a good person usually is not a good way to succeed. It doesn't sound good but it's true. You need to have a big ego to be successful in our society. What makes a good entrepreneur? Results! So he does its job quite well... We have to remember he also bought a small computer graphic division from Lucasfilm in 1986 and turned it into one the best animation studio in the world.

brett says:

wow some of you people call hime a genius? he took his friends computer and built the company around him. them he was sooooo smart he let bill gates take the only part of the business worth any money. fuck an ipod thats what i say.

bigjobs says:

Steve Wozniak the real man behind apple not this PRICK.
people like tolgayildirim symbolise the ranks of asshats that would go down on steve jobs for an iphone or accessory.

Iksf says:

Arrogant, understatement of the year. Him and his big ego running the worlds "Most advanced Operating System" yea ok, though we dont know much about his development vs Windows its easy to say the Linux's and BSD's are way ahead of them. Add that to Safari "The worlds fastest browser" which is slower than Chrome and Firefox to me and is as buggy as IE...

bad_ass says:

Steve Jobs is a SH*T!!!
Everything he got is from Steve Wozniak.
Steve Wozniak is everything in Apple. Without Steve Wozniak, there will be no Apple Computer. Steve Jobs only using Steve Wozniak to run his bussiness. And the think I hate the most from Steve Jobs is his ARROGANCE.
SH*T!!!

bt2008 says:

hes a nob

Anonymous says:

He's a smug jerk whose hubris helps people buy into him. There's something slick about Apple commercials, and I can't stand that unctuous vibe.

Steve M says:

steve jobs is an arrogant prick... yes.. BUT / ppl follow him / ppl love him ppl love his products so much that they do not even question anymore. when you think apple you think without common sense. steve jobs was very succesful comercially but he is an arrogant prick like you say

FAV-R says:

I think he has geek issues which probably is the reason he might be a prick. He is tries very hard to act cool but it isn't his forte. Go back to his usual activities, listening to The Beatles, downloading Porn and making really cool computers.

Apple Boycotter says:

Everything about Apple is arrogant. From DRM rights to iphone and the ipod. This cocky attitude they are adopting is really whats holding me back from getting a Apple product.

cain says:

your a basterd

Marc says:

I think that success is the addiction that Steve Jobs has more than making money. He wants to create something which will be [marketed] better than anything else that it can be compared against. The unfortunate part of this, is that the Apple software and system doesn't let you tinker with it's settings or change all that many of them and you have to take your Mac back to Apple if there is a problem. Microsoft usually gets all the bad press for being the worst closed source vendor out there but then, Microsoft *is* a monopoly and it also spends billions of dollars on marketing and it's security updates aren't as frequent as *BSD or Linux or any other open-source based operating system. I guess Apple do manufacture cool things but, as with the software, they don't allow you to modify anything since it is an artists piece of "work"!

Marc says:

keep in mind that Steve Jobs salary is $1/day

bdkz says:

I think the interesting point here is that you can be and arrogant prick and at the same time be successful, respected and rich. It's kind of like a successful woman being called a bitch. Although I still stick to my guns on how Jobs treated his employees. You can be an arrogant prick and still not abuse your staff.

k8company says:

I have no opinion. I've certainly heard rumors about his arrogant prick-ness, but in all fairness... Hey, I'm a PC user. I guess I'll have to choose "Yes, you're right" because I don't see my answer down there.

rauspitz says:

The only thing named Mac that I buy has a "Big" in front of it. He is an arrogant control freak and I'm not, and never have been, blown away by his technology. Bill Gates has always been considered the villain by the assorted Mac morons out there but here he is, giving away billions to help improve the world. Jobs just wants to accumulate power and control and, in spite of his impeccable "politics" helps no one but himself. Steve Jobs is an arrogant prick and a self-serving punk! And yes I do feel better.

Stalwart says:

Arrogant prick, yes! Twisted sense of reality, yes. Good at what he does, yes. Would I ever want to meet him, fark no, unless I got a chance to punch him in his simian face.

AppleOverrated8% says:

A rich arrogant prikk!

No way, Monkeybrain!

Jen says:

When he was gorgeous years ago,he was nice. Now I think he needs to learn lessons about how to balance his life.Money isn't everything. The portrait of Dorian Grey is what he reminds me of.I don't hate him,I think he needs to maybe get some bad influences/people out of his life.I don't think he's arrogant,I think he never has time to stop and see who to let go of or dump. You're sort of right but sort of wrong.

tolgayildirim says:

Steve Jobs has created one of the greatest companies in the
world and we should be thankful to him. He reinvented how we
should interact with computers, he reinvented how we should
listen to music and yes he reinvented the mobile phone!
It doesnt matter if he's arrogant or snob or cute(Although he
has the right to be arrogant after what he has accomplished).
All that matters is that he is the leader of the Apple religion
and he means a lot to his mortal followers:)

Kenneth says:

He's Great

bgamall says:

Actually, Steve Jobs has been a creator of "jobs" in a very difficult economic environment. We can't be jealous of a genius. I am sure he is a difficult person, but his contributions to society are enormous. That cannot be discounted.

Maryssa Bleam says:

im doing a report on him and i dont believe so!

E$$$$$ says:

He is an arrogant prick, but a smart one whop gets what he wants. Whats wrong with being an arrogant prick?

says:

Steve Jobs is a smart guy and he "seems" arrogant because
he is going for what he wants regardless of other people's opinions.
The examples that you provided do not illustrate your point.

Pix says:

he's a marketing genious and a focused visionary - you are just jealous!

lems says:

ur gay

beachbum_gabby says:

I can't tell if he's arrogant or not because I didn't know him that much. But he develops products that most of us use today. And I salute him for that!

Fuckyou says:

Dickhead.

fefe says:

I am going to say no because I'm not really sure if he is.

Victoria_Neely says:

I don't know much about Jobs as a person, but I respect the guy for his accomplishments. Plenty of people are smug and arrogant without having accomplished anything.

Oh, BTW, you might get a laugh out of this: The Secret Diary of Steve Jobs

Hinutech says:

He's the best in the world at what he does. Establishes a vision and gets the job done. If he wasn't confident in his abilities to do so, then Apple would be no more.

Caseyfern says:

Brilliance comes in many flavors, as does arrogance. It's just a teensy step to one side to cross the line between visionary and snake oil salesman. Both Steves are visionaries, each with his own specific brand of brilliance. Offensive? I guess I haven't seen it, but then again I've only been using Apple products since 1986. What I have seen is the product of persistence, made better over time and channeling of feedback.

The Mac has improved, has continued to improve, and has established itself as more than the illegitimate stepchild of the PC industry. It may be time to climb down off the various soapboxes and divest ourselves of the Big Question: Mac or PC.

I could go on about this for hours (but I like you a lot so I won't - I'll just go start my OWN Monkeybrain on a similar topic.. Internet Explorer: My Etch-a-Sketch Makes a Better Browser)!

ComingSoon says:

I always considered Steve Jobs a briliant person, but I never though he is arrogant.

sethgodin says:

You're not arrogant if you do what you say you're gonna do. A jerk, perhaps, humble certainly not, but not arrogant.

Jan says:

So what ~ he's a brilliant and successful arrogant prick!
And do we think anyone else at his level in business (or politics, or religion, etc) is NOT an arrogant prick???

KilnGoddess says:

As someone using one of those imacs(mine is graphite) to type this I feel perhaps you are misunderstanding a creative at work. He knows what direction he wants to take his company and he wants it done right. It seems to be working for him.(I so really wanted one of those flower power imacs)
