HERE'S WHAT I THINK
Steve Jobs is an arrogant prick
Steve Jobs co-founded Apple in 1976. In the 30 years since its inception Jobs has been called many things...including a prick. Steve Jobs has an arrogant egocentric personality, an aggressive and mean-spirited management style and a bizarre personal life, like his obsession with The Beatles and questioning his daughter's paternity, then naming a computer after her, the Lisa.
While some might call Jobs a brilliant eccentric I find his behavior offensive. Leading by intimidation is not my style. Sadly when people think of Apple they think Steve Jobs, where-as Steve Wozniak was the real brains behind the machine.
Jobs created a persona for himself and Apple. Apple = Art, Design & Creativity...and a lot of people bought into the fantasy. How many people out there overpaid for a purple iMac? My husband and I have a defunct Aqua one in the basement.
So does that make Steve Jobs a Prick? Yes is does...but it also made him a lot of money. The question is does being a prick make your a millionaire or a monster? I'm not sure I know the answer to that question.
YOUR TURN!

He's a smug jerk whose hubris helps people buy into him. There's something slick about Apple commercials, and I can't stand that unctuous vibe.

I think he has geek issues which probably is the reason he might be a prick. He is tries very hard to act cool but it isn't his forte. Go back to his usual activities, listening to The Beatles, downloading Porn and making really cool computers.

Everything about Apple is arrogant. From DRM rights to iphone and the ipod. This cocky attitude they are adopting is really whats holding me back from getting a Apple product.

I think that success is the addiction that Steve Jobs has more than making money. He wants to create something which will be [marketed] better than anything else that it can be compared against. The unfortunate part of this, is that the Apple software and system doesn't let you tinker with it's settings or change all that many of them and you have to take your Mac back to Apple if there is a problem. Microsoft usually gets all the bad press for being the worst closed source vendor out there but then, Microsoft *is* a monopoly and it also spends billions of dollars on marketing and it's security updates aren't as frequent as *BSD or Linux or any other open-source based operating system. I guess Apple do manufacture cool things but, as with the software, they don't allow you to modify anything since it is an artists piece of "work"!

I think the interesting point here is that you can be and arrogant prick and at the same time be successful, respected and rich. It's kind of like a successful woman being called a bitch. Although I still stick to my guns on how Jobs treated his employees. You can be an arrogant prick and still not abuse your staff.

I have no opinion. I've certainly heard rumors about his arrogant prick-ness, but in all fairness... Hey, I'm a PC user. I guess I'll have to choose "Yes, you're right" because I don't see my answer down there.

The only thing named Mac that I buy has a "Big" in front of it. He is an arrogant control freak and I'm not, and never have been, blown away by his technology. Bill Gates has always been considered the villain by the assorted Mac morons out there but here he is, giving away billions to help improve the world. Jobs just wants to accumulate power and control and, in spite of his impeccable "politics" helps no one but himself. Steve Jobs is an arrogant prick and a self-serving punk! And yes I do feel better.

Steve Jobs has created one of the greatest companies in the
world and we should be thankful to him. He reinvented how we
should interact with computers, he reinvented how we should
listen to music and yes he reinvented the mobile phone!
It doesnt matter if he's arrogant or snob or cute(Although he
has the right to be arrogant after what he has accomplished).
All that matters is that he is the leader of the Apple religion
and he means a lot to his mortal followers:)

Actually, Steve Jobs has been a creator of "jobs" in a very difficult economic environment. We can't be jealous of a genius. I am sure he is a difficult person, but his contributions to society are enormous. That cannot be discounted.

Caseyfern says:
Brilliance comes in many flavors, as does arrogance. It's just a teensy step to one side to cross the line between visionary and snake oil salesman. Both Steves are visionaries, each with his own specific brand of brilliance. Offensive? I guess I haven't seen it, but then again I've only been using Apple products since 1986. What I have seen is the product of persistence, made better over time and channeling of feedback.
The Mac has improved, has continued to improve, and has established itself as more than the illegitimate stepchild of the PC industry. It may be time to climb down off the various soapboxes and divest ourselves of the Big Question: Mac or PC.
I could go on about this for hours (but I like you a lot so I won't - I'll just go start my OWN Monkeybrain on a similar topic.. Internet Explorer: My Etch-a-Sketch Makes a Better Browser)!
