Can you imagine Steve Martin being called a wallflower? Me neither. But that's the exact word he uses when describing himself in Born Standing Up.
The book is well written and he does a good job taking us through his life. I particularly like the way he uses world events as milestones in the book.
For me it was fascinating to hear how each milestone appeared to him and how they affected his outlook on life. It also made me reflect on how they affected me in my life.
He covers President Kennedy's assassination in 1963 as well as the United States invasion of Iraq in 2003 (he hosted the Oscars that same week). He talks about how humor and jokes got us through those trying times.
Born Standing Up is not as funny as one of his stand-up routines, but it's not supposed to be. It is thoughtful and entertaining and in my humble opinion is worth reading.

Steve Martin is funny. This book shows you his life and how and when he became a comic.
I'm glad they cut back on the glitz.

This is another good Steve Martin book. He is really one of a kind.
What would a Steve Martin lens be without videos of the man himself doing what he does best -- being silly! Enjoy!
