He Is Retired and Still Going Strong
"The more you learn, the less you have to practice." "Truth is beauty." "Ten teachers are nine too many." Who said all of these things? Stevens Hewitt, my favorite teacher. He's quirky, smart, humorous, economical. If I could choose one book, it would be his. If I could choose two books, I would choose two of his.
Hewitt's and Lenom's Output
Lenom Was One Of Hewitt's Earlier and Influential Teachers

His books are my favorites. In his "Method for Oboe" he unites the best of woodwind technique and knowledge and presents the material with a large dose of his ironic wit. He self publishes and can be reached at 215-424-7692. You may even get a nice chat with Steve and a signed copy of your purchase.

- Russian music serves as farewell to oboist
- Fred Cohen, principal oboist Springfield Symphony Orchestra, retires.
"Personally, I think the audience should applaud for the oboist who gives the 'A' rather than the concertmaster, who only walks out without falling off the stage!," Cohen quipped in a recent interview.

- Hello, My name is Gordon Davis, and I am Principal Oboe in Hillsborosymphony.org, for 7 years as of '07. I must laugh with the observation of the Gentleman who said the "audience should applaud the oboist with his[her] A, rather than the Concertmaster." The Concertmaster does NOT TUNE the orchestra, the Oboe does. Many thanks to the people who have built up these pages with all their marvelous contributions, much learning and joy is offered herein.
I welcome visitors to the HSO website, and likewise, comments, suggestions on virtually anything oboe, do write me at BKESL@HOTMAIL.com.
Anyone comment on the HOWARTH XL cocobolo oboe ? Do you have any thoughts, please? When I played one, I just flipped.
John Mack came here to Portland the year before his passing, and I went to go and learn from this dear precious soul. The angels in Heaven now get to hear him play, and I bet Papa Bach loves having him there.
Peace and blessings upon you all.
