Make sure the boot order in your BIOS set correctly? Usually you want it in this order: floppy (if any), optical drive, hard drive.

Make sure the new hard drive the same interface type as the old one, (parallel ATA, often called "IDE", vs. Serial ATA) If parallel ATA (IDE), are the master/slave jumpers set correctly?
If it appears your computer is not recognizing your new hard disk. Go into the BIOS and set the hard disk to AUTO and see if it will figure out which disk you have. If that doesn't work, you should have a CD with your new hard drive that has a formatting utility on it. Boot from that CD and format your new drive from the CD and you should be OK.
