Stop Binge Eating: 3 Simple Steps

Binge eating is a crazy thing to deal with. It is now recognized as an actual eating disorder. Binge eating is closely related to emotional eating. They have many things in common; if you can differentiate them at all.

Many people have tried to use diets to stop binge eating. But they don't work; they actually fuel the disorder.

How to Stop

Binge eating is triggered by thoughts and/or emotions. I want to show you how to stop a binge in the very moment they come. You will also need to find the emotion that is triggering the binge. And then learn how to resolve the emotion or thought.

You'll need to...

1-Be ready to let go of binge eating.
2-Have a willingness to be honest with yourself.
3- Get pen and paper or a journal.

Step 1: Stop a Binge

The best way to stop a binge is through a distraction. Keep in mind that this isn't a solution; but it provides a way for you to figure out why you want the food.

You can say out loud:
-"If I truly loved myself; I would do something that nurtures who I really am."
-"Am I physically hungry?"
-"If the problem isn't hunger; then food isn't the solution."
-or come up with your own affirmations that will help you shift your mental state.

You can do:
-Go for a walk
-Take a shower
-Brush your teeth
-Read a book

Now grab your journal; move to step two...

Step 2: Recognizing Emotions and Thoughts

The best way to do this is through writing. After you have stopped the binge; express on paper your thoughts, feelings, and anything else that comes to mind. Don't stop yourself from writing; just let everything flow out on the paper.

You can still do this step if you have already binged! It's not about being perfect. Learning how to stop binge eating takes time.

Step 3: Resolve or Change Emotions and Thoughts

Once you have your thoughts and emotions in a tangible form; you'll be able to see the reasons that you turn to food. This is very valuable information. You'll be able to learn things about yourself that you didn't otherwise know.

This may not sound appealing. That's why most people try diets first; they seem quick and easy.

But when you don't address the real problem; you will never get a real solution.

The real reason for binge eating lies within your own mind. It has been a coping mechanism you've used to help you through life. The only problem is it comes with other baggage that is pulling you down.

Get to your emotions and thoughts that are driving this behavior and you'll be able to change your life!
