And when Dr. Dog (Dr. Dennis Fetko) announced that he had published a dog training ebook, "Dr. Dog's FAST, EASY, FUN Behavior Solutions", I purchased a copy right away hoping to find methods on how to train your dog to stop digging.
I wanted to find solutions to my puppy digging problems that did not involve harsh methods like jerking or gimmicks like squirting or clicking. In fact, Dr. Fetko ("Dr. Dog") says that, "In dog training, 'jerk' is a noun and not a verb!" and, "If anyone has to jerk a dog to train him, he shouldn't be allowed near anything with a pulse!" So, I was hoping to find ways to stop my dog's digging problems that were not harsh.
Because I had listened to Dr. Fetko (Dr. Dog) for years, I wasn't surprised to find our answers. It turned out that--of the twelve reasons Dr. Dog describes that a dog may have digging problems--we had four of them! So, thankfully, we can now leave our puppy in our backyard with peace of mind...

How to Stop a Dog from Digging. Before you choose a dog, be aware that some breeds are more prone to having digging problems than others. Terrier breeds, in particular, are prone to digging. Terrier actually means "go to ground", so if you've decided to get a nice Norwich Terrier, Jack Russell, or Staffy, be sure you know what you're getting into!Additionally, Border Collies and Australian Shepherds can be particularly prone to digging. Also, you will find that Arctic breeds exhibit more burrowing behavior. As these are very intelligent animals, "tricking" them into not digging can be quite difficult!
