My Experience With Teeth Clenching

Years ago I wondered why I often wake up with an exhausted and painful jaw. I was then told that I grind and clench my teeth while sleeping. I was totally unaware of this until I was told about it. I thought the pain and feeling of exhaustion was just caused by the position I had in sleep. I researched about it and found out that I got one of the major causes of a condition called TMJ.

What I Learned About TMJ

TMJ is for temporomandibular joints. Its the joints of our jaws. It's one of the most frequently used joints in the body. We use it with anything that moves the jaws such as talking, singing, yawning, chewing and so on.

The disorder associated with this jaw joint is also simply called TMJ or TMD. I found out through my research that one of the causes of TMJ is actually grinding and clenching of teeth. I was worried an so I went to the doctor to get help. The doctor said that I don' t have TMJ but over time if I continue grinding and clenching my teeth there is a great possibility I will develop it in time. I was relieved and yet it led me to research on how to stop teeth clenching and grinding further.

Causes Of TMJ

The other causes of TMJ aside from grinding and clenching of teeth are: Emotional stress, trauma, and abuse. Emotional stress makes the muscles in the jaw, face, head, neck and shoulders tensed and tight putting the pressure on the jaw joints. Trauma can cause direct damage to the joints such as misalignment of teeth or misplaced disc. Abuse is basically the deterioration of the joints by the rigorous and regular use of it in very heavy movements like the frequent chewing of gum.

Common Symptoms of TMJ

The most common symptoms of TMJ are pain and the snapping, clicking or popping sounds from the joints. Pain occurs first in the joints and is spread or referred to the network of muscles and ligaments, reaching the temple, the head, teeth, neck and shoulders. The other symptoms are locking of the jaws, dizziness, migraine, temporary hearing loss, ringing in the ear, swelling and so on.

Stop Teeth Clenching

But how do you stop teeth clenching? Dentists would prescribe splint guards. But these devises should only be used for a period of time and does not really stop the grinding and clenching. Another method in which there is a lasting effect and would definitely stop clenching is doing specific exercise program. These exercises are designed to promote relaxation of the whole region that affects the jaws and to strengthen weak muscles that creates imbalance. This program is available for you at http://tmj-no-more.com.

This exercise program offers you sets of easy to follow exercise for the tongue, throat, face, neck and shoulders. When done regularly relaxation will come easy and should loosen the tight muscles and eliminate stress that negatively affect the jaws and strengthen rarely used muscles making a balance in the movements of the jaws. This method on how to stop teeth clenching is all natural, no medicines, no dental implants, no wearing of devises and no surgical procedure necessary.
