Help to stop dog wetting inside.
STOP DOG WETTING....AND THE SMELL that goes with it. You can put a stop to it once and for all. You don't like it and neither does your dog. But still every time you come home, you are greeted by "that smell" and a sad little fella.
MAN'S BEST FRIEND...?
THAN WHY DOES HE WET ON MY CARPET
There are a few things to remember when approaching dog wetting in the house, or any other common canine behavioral problems. Whether you are working with a new puppy or an old dog that has been around the fire hydrant a time or two you should always keep in mind the following.
IT'S NOT PERSONAL....KEEP IT POSITIVE
It can feel very personal at times when you find yourself constantly cleaning up puppy messes but rest assured, that cute little dog is not always out to pay you back, although it may seem so.
- Don't allow yourself to get overly upset with your dog, its easy to do but you must keep your cool. When working with your dog remember "a positive approach is the best approach"
- The angry approach will only stress your dog out and could lead to more severe behavior problems that can become long term.
CONSISTENCY IS THE KEY
When beginning a new potty routine you must be consistent. Dogs are extremely intelligent and will pick up what you are trying to teach them a lot quicker if you have a rigid routine at first. Not only do time and frequency need to be leading factors in his routine but location as well. Here are some good guidelines for stating out;- 2 Months = every 2 hours
- 3 Months = every 4 hours
- 4 Months = every 5 hours
- 5 Months = every 6 hours
- 6 Months = every 7 hours
- 7 Months = every 8 hours

SOME OTHER FACTORS TO CONSIDER
The older dog
Not all dog wetting issues can be resolved by better training. In some cases, especially older dogs and particular breeds of dogs, you may need to get the advise of a well trained veterinarian. When you have a dog that has been house broken for sometime, then all of a sudden he starts breaking the rules, you can bet that somewhere there is a trigger causing the new behavior. Somethings to consider;
- Anxiety can be a leading factor in dog wetting problems with older dogs
- Change of diet can be a cause for irregular indoor wetting
- A dynamic change in the home, such as another pet or even a new baby
- Quite often a relocation will trigger wetting issues, even in younger dogs
WHO COULD POSSIBLY LIVE WITHOUT A DOG?
Hopefully this information will be helpful in getting you and your canine back on good terms, if this or any behavioral problems have come between you. Personally, I couldn't imagine what it would be like in our home without our two wonderful dogs! They bring such joy and happiness, especially our little Dachshund. She has given us the most trouble with indoor wetting but to see her progress and improvement, I must say has been the most rewarding for us as well as her.If you have a special story about your dog that you would like to share, please take the time to let us know.
