Some helpful definitions
Without an internet firewall, your computer is exposed to harmful threats that can damage your files and possibly shut down the whole system it resides in. Worse, your computer can be hijacked and spread even more harm to other computers connected on the same network as you. Here's a list of malware a computer is up against.
- Virus is a program that can copy itself and infect a computer without permission or knowledge of the user.
- Worm
Is a self-replicating Computer program that spread destruction on its own by installing its own files rather than infecting other "host" files.
- Trojan
Computer trojans or trojan horses are intruding software that are designed to control the system or leak information from the attacked system to a remote location.Trojan horses may appear to be useful or interesting programs (or at the very least harmless) to an unsuspecting user, but are actually harmful when executed.
- Spyware and Adware
Spyware reside in a computer and transmit information for the advantage of its creators. Adware are software that have advertisements included in them. Adware often have spyware included, so be careful still! Spyware programs can collect various types of personal information, but can also interfere with user control of the computer in other ways, such as installing additional software, redirecting web browser activity, or diverting advertising revenue to a third party.
- Port scanning
It is similar to a thief going through your neighborhood and checking every door and window on each house to see which ones are open and which ones are locked.TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) and UDP (User Datagram Protocol) are two of the protocols that make up the TCP/IP protocol suite which is used universally to communicate on the Internet. Each of these has ports 0 through 65535 available so essentially there are more than 65,000 doors to lock.
If you do not remove these threats from your computer it will run slower and slower and might eventually stop working at all! How can you rid yourself of these threats and then protect yourself in the future!
THE SOLUTION
Get protected now, click here!
Every day, virus, spyware, and adware creators come up with new, ingenious ways to gain access to your PC. Most people who access the internet have some sort of spyware, malware or adware on their PC. So, what do you do to remove and protect yourself from these predators? There are many programs available either free or at a cost that can protect you from these attacks.
ANTI-VIRUS software
You need a program that protects your computer regardless of how a virus attempts to break in (email, CD, floppy disk, network shares, instant messaging, web download etc). Your virus scanner should also provide constant real-time protection with minimal system overhead by scanning files and granting access only to those that are virus free. It should scan files when they are opened, saved or renamed. Anti-virus software will NOT protect against spyware.
ANTI-SPYWARE software
Again, you need a real time spyware barrier that blocks spyware before it can install itself on the user's PC.
INTERNET FIREWALL
Ideally a Firewall blocks or filters all incoming connections to a user's computer from the Internet and other computers inside a network. The firewall should also block and filter all outgoing connections to the computer. Trojan horse applications and many other hacker tools work by infecting a computer via authorized programs such as email, and then connecting out from the victim's computer completely undetected. Bi-directional filtering is critical to stopping these types of hacker attacks and other threats -- such as Denial of Service attacks where your computer is used to attack some¬one else without your knowledge. It should also include intrusion detection capability.
Cheap, off the shelf anti-virus software does not protect PCs from hackers, spyware, remote access tools (RATs), Trojan horses, password crackers, keystroke loggers, identity theft tools, Microsoft security holes, hybrid viruses, and much more. And most people let their anti-virus program expire anyway - so they aren't even protected from everyday viruses and worms. So what are your choices?
1. Don't worry about the threats because they are not real.
2. Become a security expert yourself and constantly monitor what programs are available, evaluate and decide which ones to use.
3. Find a trusted expert who can take care of all your internet security needs with a single comprehensive solution, with no hassles.
