Stop Dog Aggression - Stop Dog Biting - Stop a Dog from Biting
Stop dog biting - stop dog aggression. If you've brought a second dog into your home and the dogs have begun fighting, I have good news for you! There are many things you can do to stop dog aggression and to stop a dog from biting.
And if you are now considering getting a second dog, be sure to have two dogs together meet for the first time outside your home to determine whether they will be able to get along without fighting and being aggressive with each other. If they just tolerate each other, that is not a positive sign.
To prevent dog aggression and prevent dog bites and fighting, the most important thing to remember is this: the more dogs have in common, the more likely they are to fight and be aggressive and bite each other. Fortunately, we don't have to concern ourselves with things that don't matter to dogs, like size or color.
The four most critical factors to preventing dog aggression, fights and biting between two dogs are: age, sex (and neutering), temperament, and early social learning. A recipe for disaster is two un-neutered female littermates.
Talk about a lit fuse! You're betting their lives and your family's safety that their temperaments alone are so different that they won't be aggressive and fight. You've got better odds in the lottery. Sure, someone wins the lottery! But for every winner, there are ten million losers. Great odds--especially when the loser gets killed or injured.
The good news is that there are many things you can do to stop aggression, bites, and fighting between your dogs. These include how you treat your dogs: Should you treat them equally or give deference to one dog over the other? (The answer to this may surprise you!)
Also, how you choose and use your dog's names can influence whether the two dogs will be aggressive and fight with each other. These are just two of the areas where your interaction with your dogs will influence their aggressive behavior. And there are actually some powerful and simple things you can do to almost assure that your dogs will get along well!
These issues of stopping dog aggression and learning how to stop a dog from biting are so important that I have addressed them extensively in my ebook on eliminating dog behavior problems.
By the way, obedience training will NOT solve dog behavior problems like biting. If you obedience-train a dog that bites, you then have a dog that Sits, Stays, Heels--and bites...

Stop Dog Aggression - Stop a Dog from Biting
Stop Dog BitingFalse aggression is very common and involves our misunderstanding the dog's message.
Since canines play aggressively, it's possible to misinterpret some play solicitation behaviors in which you really don't need to stop dog aggression or stop dog biting. Some people are so sensitive about their dog's aggression that they interpret every animated act the dog does as viciousness, especially when their children are involved.
If there are any doubts about whether you need to stop dog aggression, have an experienced dog handler spend time with your family and your dog. They may be in a position to easily distinguish and identify the dog's behavior--either putting your fears to rest or justifying them as dog aggression. If you don't feel comfortable making a decision that may be fatal to the dog, get input from someone that is.
There are behaviors that appear to be dog or puppy aggression that aren't at all. Certain breeds literally smile at their owners, lifting their upper lip and showing their teeth. They are greeting their people in a friendly manner, but the uninformed have called this a snarl or a threat; dogs have been destroyed for doing it when it really isn't aggressive dog behavior at all.
Probably the most common breed example is the Doberman Pincer, but a number of breeds in the coonhound family are also notorious for their grin. So keep in mind that they may be "smiling" and not snarling.
