Americans Against John McCain

Senator John McCain hopped off the straight talk express a long time ago, and hitched a ride on the doubletalk express instead. First McCain says he's for one thing, then he says he's for something else.

McCain said he was against torture, but then he voted for it. McCain said he was against the influence of the Religious Right, but now he panders for its approval. The only thing that John McCain has been consistently in favor of is prolonging the Iraq War - wrong from the start.

This lens is focused on the campaign to stop John McCain as he seeks re-election to the U.S. Senate in 2010.

John McCain Does Not Speak For Me

McCain shouldn't be calling foreign leaders claiming to speak for America because he's not the President!

On August 12, 2008, Senator John McCain called Mikhail Saakashvili, the President of Georgia, on the telephone, and announced that "all America" supports the government of Georgia in its war against Russia. Senator McCain claimed, "I know I speak for every American."

The truth is that Senator McCain represents Republicans, and he represents Arizona. McCain is not the President. John McCain does not represent all Americans, and it is the height of irresponsibility for him to call foreign leaders and start making pronouncements on American foreign policy three months before the presidential election is even held.

John McCain does not speak for me.

John McCain's Real Moral Values Slip With "Bitch" Comment

Senator John McCain showed he's unworthy of being in the Senate when he laughed at Senator Hillary Clinton being called a "bitch"

The low standard of decency upon which right wing values are based was exhibited in November of 2007, when Republican presidential candidate John McCain responded to a question from a supporter of his about Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton: "How do we beat the bitch?" John McCain laughed, and said it was an "excellent question".

Of course, it wasn't an excellent question. It was a vague question, to start with, and it was phrased in such a way as to fail to recognize the complexity of Hillary Clinton as a human being and as a political figure. It was a really dumb question, actually.

John McCain didn't say that, of course. There's a lot he didn't say in response to his supporter calling Hillary Clinton a "bitch". The most intelligent and decent response to the question would have been to say, "We can only beat Hillary Clinton in the 2008 presidential election if we stop calling her a bitch."

However, John McCain never said anything of the sort. Not once did John McCain suggest that using the word "bitch" to describe a woman is offensive, rude, and intolerable for any presidential campaign that wants to be taken seriously.

Senator McCain just shrugged his shoulders, laughed, and seemed to enjoy the use of the word "bitch" to describe Hillary Clinton. So we saw the real John McCain, who apparently is willing to use derogatory terms to insult people based on their identity instead of their character. Calling Hillary Clinton a "bitch" is as inappropriate as calling Barack Obama a "nigger" or Russ Feingold a "kike" would be.

By accepting the word "bitch" as part of the atmosphere of his campaign, John McCain demonstrated that he isn't only unworthy of the presidency. He's unworthy of remaining in the Senate as well, insulting a Senate colleague in such a way. (Source: Associated Press, November 15, 2007)

Do the Rumors of a Sexual Affair between McCain and a Lobbyist Matter?

Does the sexual aspect of the McCain-Iseman affair matter, or is it something else for you?

There are allegations - unsubstantiated so far - that John McCain had an extramarital affair with corporate lobbyist Vicki Iseman. Some say it's the sex that matters. Some are more worried about the possible corruption. How about you? What's your opinion?

McCain Sex Scandal? Ewwww. Yuck!

My opinion on the Vicki Iseman John McCain sex scandal, to start out the debate

We've heard a lot about an alleged sexual affair between Republican Presidential candidate John Mccain and corporate lobbyist Vicki Iseman. My reaction to this scandal is that it's not the sex that matters.

When Bill Clinton was impeached for getting a blow job, it was the wrong thing to do, because the Presidency is a public office, and Clinton's sex life was a private matter. He didn't have sex with Tony Blair, after all.

The same standard must apply to John McCain. If there is a scandal, let it be about any special deals, or bribery, that went on between John McCain and Vicki Iseman.

I do admit, however, to one very strong negative reaction - it's to the mere idea of John McCain having sex. A John McCain sex scandal? Ewww. Yuck!

Now tell me what you think. Join in the debate below...
