Rick Warren Must Be Stopped
Not only is the invocation itself an unconstitutional violation of the separation of church and state, but Rick Warren himself supports a disturbing array of extremist right wing policies, including Proposition 8 in California, which revokes equal rights for many married couples in California, and the abolition of reproductive rights for women. Rick Warren has stated clearly that he believes that only a citizen who believes in God should be allowed to become President of the United States.
Rick Warren's agenda of hate is not compatible with the hope and change that we were promised during the 2008 campaign. We need to mount a citizens' campaign to stop Rick Warren from giving his invocation at the Obama inauguration, and prevent his attempt to co-opt the Obama promise into just another mockery of the values represented in our Constitution.
It's time to put Rick Warren into the cone of silence.

Atheist Petition Against Rick Warren
Atheists Protest the Rick Warren Inaugural Invocation
That's why a petition has been written, specifically organizing atheist opposition to the planned Rick Warren invocation. Please stand up for your rights, and sign this petition to President-Elect Obama, requesting that he remove Rick Warren from involvement in the official inauguration.
Sign the Petition
The petition letter reads:
We, the undersigned, note that:
1. The Inauguration is a secular, public occasion to begin the term of a President who is supposed to serve all Americans, regardless of creed.
2. Rick Warren has publicly declared that he believes that only people who believe in God should be allowed to become President of the United States.
Rick Warren's agenda is contrary to Constitution's ban on any religious test for public office. Furthermore, a religious invocation is in violation of the separation of church and state.
When you take the Oath of Office, you will pledge to uphold the Constitution. Please, don't break that promise with the first act of your Inauguration. We, atheist citizens of the United States of America, urge you to keep the 2009 Inauguration a secular event that speaks equally to all Americans, and to remove Rick Warren from the official inaugural ceremonies.
